The Film Lovers Thread!

^thanks for the link! i want to see it. it seems very interesting! ^_^can you rate it based on your viewing experience? :flower:

I'd give it about 3.5/5 purely because it is quite uncomfortable to watch, and when you read the back story it does seem quite exploitive. The cinematography is great though, which I think is quite rare for a documentry.

^Definately, and let me know what you thought of it, I'd be interested to hear your thoughts :flower:

anyone watch adulthood yet ?? i was soo disapointed with it .. but maybe thats just me like

I just rented Henry & June- I got it because I'm interested in Anais Nin. I will watch it tonight when I get home from work. Anyone seen it? Thought?

^I haven't seen it but it's on my list. I  Richard E. Grant. Let me know what you think! Pretty please. :)

just watched Mister Lonely last night. Harmony Korine is a genius. It was soo beautiful! my eyes teared up many many times. the visuals and the soundtrack are amazing. but the message was the most powerful of all.

Does anyone here like Hitchcock movies?

I just watched Henry and June a few days ago. I went into this movie only knowing the basics of the Anais/Miller/June story. I have to say, I really liked the movie! The acting was superb, and each character was so different and seemed very realistic. You get drawn into the story within the first few minutes. the time period and Paris is also really well portrayed. Uma Thurman does a fantastic job, her character is fragile and ruthless at the same time. There are moments in the movie where you hate her for what she is doing, and at other times you feel sorry for her and wish you could help. Anais's character was also very interesting- I wish we could have gotten to know a bit more of her thoughts at the time.

Overall, I'd give it a 8/10. Definitely worth watching if you've got the time. The movie will take you back to another time and place, great movie.

i love hitchcock movies.

i like all the classic ones; birds, psycho, rear window, to catch a thief, dial m for muder.. etc.
but i reallllly love strangers on a train and shadow of a doubt

Has anyone seen 8 1/2 by Fellini?!

Its brilliant.

And I noticed that there is one character, I forgot her name, on the beach who is the 'devil', that looks EXACTLY like Amy Winehouse.

Anyone agree?

By the way, can anyone recommend me some Jack Lemmon or Lew Ayres films? I kind of love those two now.:blush: Of Jack's I've seen Bell, Book, and Candle and Some Like It Hot, and of Lew's I've seen All Quiet On The Western Front and Holiday (he was fantastic in this one!:heart::heart:).

If you liked The Apartment (and I am assuming you did based on the quote you have), maybe you should watch Irma la Douce. Jack Lemmon, Shirley MacLaine, and director Billy Wilder worked together again for this film - although I didn't think it was as good, it was still entertaining.

And I agree about Ayres in Holiday; I love that movie!

Yes, I absolutely loved The Apartment; yet I didn't even know of Irma La Douce!:lol: Thanks for the heads up, I'm going to check it out. And I'm glad someone likes Holiday too. It's another of my favorites and Ayres is a big reason why.

I recently saw Funny Games (1997). Very disturbing. Anyone else seen it?

I saw it last summer. I love Ulrich Muehe, the overall movie was great! What was most amazing is the way they employed the camera, not showing some of the gruesome scenes but only letting us hear what is going on. That added to the suspense in a way I've never seen before- genius!
The remake with Naomi Watts is on my netflix, should be getting to it pretty soon.
I don't understand why they made a remake of it- I thought the original was perfect the way it is. But I will have to watch the remake before I can have an educated opinion about it.
