The Film Lovers Thread!

I really want to see City of God and Russian Ark. I have got to start renting movies again, been so busy with school lately.

^^City Of God is a startling piece of film making on just about every level.:D
I strongly recommend you watch it ASAP.B)

i haven't seen that :cry::ninja:

:o North By Northwest is on TV here all the time. Cary Grant is perfect in this and it's got those classic scenes: the crop duster attack, Mount Rushmore. It's got more of a comedic edge to it than some of his other films, perhaps similar to Strangers On A Train. Definitely check it out if you get the chance.

I just saw this morning that Michael Bay's  production company is doing a remake of The Birds for next year.

Oh, and ditto on City Of God. That movie blew me away.

^ I loved City of God, great film. But I still havent seen City of Men, anybody seen it and if so what did you think?

P.s Nothing of Hitchcock's should be remade. I mean, look what they did with Psycho (with VINCE VAUGHN!!??!)

please I need some help, I'm looking for a film with a girl named China (for some reason) and when her family is killed she follows the killer to his house where he got this young girl lucked up in this really strange room..and he also got this person lucked up somewhere else but he gets killed by dogs when he tries to escape..
Anyone seen this film and know the name of it?

^sorry, i haven't seen it :( it seems interesting though...

i ordered it already ;) ......Michael Bay and The Birds?!?:sick::sick: is this the one with Naomi Watts?! i like Naomi so i hope she stays away from this surefire crap!

Personally I didn't think The Birds was all that spectacular (theoretically interesting premise that ended up quite tacky); but why mess with it? Tippi Hedren was so good and I can't imagine someone else in the role...

I haven't seen it but could it be Torque?

not sure about City of God....i finally saw it...maybe it suffered from too much hype because i really wasn't overly moved.... :innocent:

i would say the same adorefaith...

thought it was a good movie but i wasn't blown away

glad i'm not the only one Chrissy!....:innocent:

i bought My Kid Could Paint That today.. it disappeared from cinemas so quickly and i just stumbled upon it tonight, on sale..:woot: i'm looking forward to watching it...i have been wanting to see it for a while... has anyone seen it?

supposed to be seeing Slumdog Millionaire on friday night too...very excited..

also saw Sophie Scholl - the final days the other night....WOW...so moving...a fantastic film...another one i had been wanting to see for ages and it was well worth it... i would watch it again and again i think, and i can't say that about many movies... i think it was really well done and that main actress is so impressive, she was so genuine and intense without being melodramatic.... did anyone else love this film?...i haven't cried so much in a film in a long time..

adorefaith, My Kid Could Paint That is a good documentary and I enjoyed it. But it still left me with questions unanswered if she did paint it. I think the director left it up to the audience to interpret if she did or not and leaves you with what is art. Personally with the footage they have in the film with Marla and her father..the situation is fishy. I hope you enjoy it.

thanks for the review reckoner.

so i saw Slumdog last night....i really liked the beginning and most of the first half to three quarters of the movie, i'd say...and then i'm not sure...i hate to say it but it felt like it just started to fall more and more into the typical hollywood formula.....boy meets girl, boy loses girl, boy meets girl again....boy and girl end up together with one smaller tragedy taking place to avoid it becoming too sweet..

i wanted to love it....i really liked a lot of it...i LOVED the two boys who played the brothers when they were younger...i thought they were extraordinary... all the acting was very good actually...but i think the second half of the film, as the differences in the brothers and their choices or perhaps 'destinies' became more apparent, could have been executed differently...in a more subtle way...

i loved all the themes and ideas running through the movie... the ironies.. i also think the flashbacks to the past were very well done, as jamal was sitting in the room revisiting his past and starting to understand the way his destiny had so far played out... it was lovely

I completely agree with this. I think it takes away from the stronger impression. I mean it IS great movie, but with that ending it doesn't deserve to be the BEST picture (at GG), I honestly think that's the reason it wont get an Oscar...

i saw Stefan Krohmer's Summer 04 tonight.. has anyone seen it?. interesting film.. a bit strange.. i liked it a lot ^_^
i thought the acting was very good...very authentic.. the chemistry between one particular couple was extraordinary..:innocent: i won't say any more in case people go and watch it. i would definitely recommend it.. it was stimulating and at the same time effortless. on the dvd jacket it mentioned a similarity to haneke but personally i liked Krohmer's style more.. a bit less disturbing so you don't switch off entirely but still provocative and unsettling enough to make you think.

martina gedeck was in it.. she was also in the lives of others (one of my favourite movies...brilliant imo). i love her..

i am becoming more interested in recent german cinema after seeing this and a few other german films recently.. if anyone has any recommendations i'd be grateful :flower:
