those of you who are into belgian design might be interested in this belgian furniture and design company...they make mainly office furniture...but some belgian fashion designers have designed pieces for them...i believe the anne demeulemeester table is one of those pieces...

i used to have a very large table of theirs...but it left with the ex-boyfriend...
i kept the file cabinet...

i've seen the demeulemeester table in their showroom here...i was actually rather disappointed...

I think Francois Azambourg's 'Vertigo' chandelier is amazing. The inspiration is definetly the jellyfish. It is constructed out of fibre optics. I'll try to post a photo.

I also love Yedidia Blonder's ingenious twist to the bookshelf, called 'Line'. It's made out of steel and the parts are wielded together. Definetly a minimalist aesthetic.

Lastly, this one from Johanna Grawunder at the Galleria Civica d'Arte Contemporanea in Italy.

The latest spectacular installation is by Milanese architect , who has marked the building's ancient courtyard walls with 'fluorescent colour fields'. These large patchworks of colour glow serenely at night, while, during the day, they give a bright, contemporary twist to the crumbling building. 'At night, people think they are some kind of projection,' says Grawunder, 'but the "fields" are actually squares of fluorescent paint with a black light installed below them. The black light makes the paint's fluorescent molecules glow without illuminating anything else.'
The impressive effect is far from the harsh neon-like glare you might expect - in fact, Grawunder describes the radiance as 'soft and very sexy'. Indeed, so pleased is she with the ambient quality of light these 'colour fields' give, she is currently working with lighting manufacturer Flos to develop them for domestic use. 'You should be able to make the wall itself a lighting source,' Grawunder explains. 'That's if your neighbour allows it.'

Lamps could become a thing of the past if Grawunder gets her way. Who needs them when you've got glowing walls?

It's from a store called Ligne Roset (I'm pretty sure there is one in LA). They still have them in big size, if you are interested. Ligne Roset

Oh, thanks for the link, softie! That answer's my question I emailed them about the table. I probably can't afford it, but it's interesting to see how much it's going for (i could probably make one myself, just buy an ikea table, canvas and staple gun ).

if you used nails instead of staples...you'd pretty much have the table...not exactly revolutionary...

I think you should do what I'm doing. If it's not an emergency, just wait for a sale, or a sample sale, or a store closing, but buy something quality. For example, I bought a two seater ottoman for $150 that was around $800 when Henro on Crosby was closing down. I highly recommend browsing www.craigslist.org, very useful.

that's what i've been doing...but i'm tired of waiting... i can't find the right thing...and when i do...it costs a fortune...*sigh*... a couch is a major investment and a pivotal piece in the decor...

If you are tired of waiting and want to get something quality, but don't want to shell out a big sum right away, may I recommend you Design Within Reach credit card? I believe it's 0% APR for 12 months. Their store is on Wooster, between Houston/Prince.

I know those are so cute...

It kinda reminds me of Takashi Murakami's stuff... I found something like that in a Japanese store..but thats cuter.

i find ikea is great for kitchen accessories and cheap lighting solutions...i also have a home office and have found some good office supplies there...
