Very much overhyped for its nostalgia joyride. Never was a fan of Spielberg (can’t stand E.T. LOL), Stephen King, X-Files, etc so this show doesn’t rile me up the way it does for many.
The kid that plays Dustin is a thousand goldmines and he’s the reason I watched it till the end. Winona is a tad annoying as the unhinged mum and I can’t get the hype with her either— she’s always “Winona Ryder” in every role she’s ever in— which means she’s eternally her “Heathers” character.... The rest of the cast are good for looking very “80s” but is that a (bad) wig Winona’s character's older son is wearing…???
And why is the Bangle’s 1988 song “Hazy Shade of Winter” used for a show that’s set in 1983?
The Book of Negroes ---- If anyone has time to enjoy this richly beautiful show, with such a great female lead, and the rest of the cast, please do. It happens so seldom that the lead female role has so much strength, intelligence, and inner power, especially with a subject like this!
