The Leg Thread - Toning, Firming and Questions

I have a problem and I really hope, you guys can halp me......
When I'm standing/walking my legs are neither skinny nor fat.just normal but when I sit down they turn so fat and huge...what workouts could tighten them and avoid turning them so fat when I'm sitting?

^ i read that first post of this page, and expected some "solution" to that because it happened to me too. then i realized it was normal

unlike the majority, i have several months until summer gets here, so i'm gonna try some tips i found on this thread. i lost weight some time ago, so i'm really lacking tone on my legs. i've maintained myself with the same weight since march without excercizing, so i think it's time to get started.

hi guys... i read a lot of useful information on these threads
i am a skinny guy at the top but my thighs are waay out of proportion.. im abtout 179 cm tall and i want to look taller by looking lean...
i have been running for the last 2 weeks.. 30 [email protected](average)and 30mins aerobics and stretching... will this help? and it sucks cos my feet are so sore and my toes are swollen due to this strenuous exercise or some other factor..i havent ran in 2 days and im scared of getting backt to the old me... i need slim legs..and im prepared to die for it!!! how do i tone down my inner thighs? i cant see daylight when i bring my knees together...i want that to become reality..toned thighs.. ppl someone plz help me! and wish me a speedy recovery so that i can run again :) karma for all!

oh atleast its winter..but id like to wear skinny jeans..and pull em off like dior/raf simons models...

I have the most disgusting legs - i've always hated them but they're way worse now...when I look down I see a beached whale and i'm not sure if my genetic makeup will allow me to slim down my legs.

I have huge knobbly knees but i need to tone my huge s aggy calves and lose at least 5lbs from each thigh...but is it possible if i've always had big legs?

I am a dancer and I have naturally thick legs(my mommy gave them to me:angry: )
Anyways. I am always dancing but I decided to do this leg makeover challenge I found in a mag. You do 35 minutes of powerwalking everyday except every other day you alternate sprints every 3 minutes for 75 secs. Then you do 3 sets of 25 plies, lunges, and leg lifts...It sounds complicated but the trick is just doing it 6 times a week with Sunday being the rest day. ERIN you can do it with me if you want :flower:

k..ive been running on treadmill for at least 2 weeks now.. n nothing is happening to ma thighs..still huge as ever!! wat r ur recommendation... should i swim?? will that help more ??.. like i dont even no if the ellipticals would b better

people are talking about the combination of running and pilates as a great workout for your legs, but my problem is that running will definately kill my knees.. so will elliptical do the same workout as running? i'm already walking about 3 miles per day and planning to start pilates again when i found this amazing dvd at our house. among these workouts, i go to spinning classes which usually last for 45 min and then three times a week do light weight lifting (as in bodypump classes). i hope this will get me to lose weight and tone up. i need my skinnys!

Hi :) I have read somewhere that Rachel Zoe told that she got a chicken kness. I wonder how do the chicken knees look like
Thanks :flower:

JATE, sprints aren't too good if you're trying to slim your legs I would know  I sprint durring track season but I've been doing distance on weekends and now durring the summer. It really helps slim your legs.

When I had a gym membership at school I would use the elliptical 4-5 times a week for 30minutes - 1 hr each time and it really helped slim me down and lose weight. I combined it with resistance training. I don't know if it's the same workout as running but it's really good!!

Slimmed just your legs down, or your whole body completely?! :woot:

I'm planning to join a gym soon, so I need to revise a workout plan. What's more effective for slimming legs down- elliptical or treadmill? Or just plain running? I'll probably only be going to the gym once or twice a week, and I know I won't do much at home. Does swimming help?

I slimmed down all over - remember, when you lose fat you lose it all over - there's no such thing as spot reducing. Also that's why I can't really say whether elliptical or treadmill is better for legs. I think it depends on the person. I, for example, can't run very long and my knees are sensitive so I try to stay away from the treadmill (unless it's for short runs/inclined speed walking). Also, I think the resistance training really helped a lot. If you do too much cardio without resistance muscle building then you lose your muscle together with the fat and that's never a good idea. So, provided your doctor/trainer says it's ok, do some weights too!

I've heard that swimming is great exercise and I think I found out for myself yesterday. I went for a short swim in the afternoon and wow I can feel my muscles really working hard!

If you only plan to go to the gym once or twice a week then you can still do other things on the off days, like walking, or swimming.

i like swimming too..its a great workout..i lost a lot of weight with swimming and doing some resistant training at home... never went to the gym at the time..but lost quite a lot of weight... however, swimming doesn't work so much for me anymore..i find ellipticals dont do nething for me.... treadmill seems to b the only thing that is working

For the last two weeks I've been going to the gym reularly (5 days a week) and when I'm there I do either 15 minute treadmill warm up (mostly walking at 3.5 mph and 5 incline) and then 45 minutes of elliptical. Or just 45 minutes - 1 hour on the elliptical. Then I do resistance training. And I have already noticed a difference in my legs. Thinner and more toned! But once I start work (next week) I doubt I'll be able to spend that much time at the gym.. boohoo
