The Leg Thread - Toning, Firming and Questions

i used to run and climb loads ..
and now with a bit of exercise the msucle begins to all come back easily..

wow i learned a lot in this thread. i came to ask how to lose some leg weight... and evidently i'm doing the right things.

walking then selective leg work.
my legs are pretty muscular so i'm hoping they'll just become more lean.

thanks for the info everyone!

So running slims your legs? For me, whenever I run, I end up with ugly muscley legs. Maybe because I'm short?

From my understanding different body types respond to different types of exercise I read this great book called Escape Your Shape I learned that lunges, stair climbers, etc are all awful for my body type I saw fast results when I worked out as per the book My body type calls for 0 weight and lots of speed for lower body and added resistance for upper body Others respond to lunges and squats It's a good book and it has helped me a lot I bought it from Amazon.com Also never underestimate the power of a jump rope It really changes your body

^ there's alot about that on ivillage .com I read that too and it does work, you must also be a "spoon"?

^ yep that's me Good Ole spoon shaped Star Oh well It has worked for my legs so I figured I'd throw it in the conversation I saw a guy I dated a few years ago at a bar and he couldn't help but comment on how thin my legs have become from using this workout I took it as a compliment but I was like "What was I fat before? I've never even hit 115 on a scale, etc" You how girls can take a compliment and flip it if they are sensitive about that area of their body Anyway I was always skinny on top but now I'm more even Not perfect but I see improvement This book is definitely worth checking out

Thanks for the tip. By the way could you try to use punctuation? It's hard following your posts.

I highly recommend an exercise for sit ups. It's called stomach abs here, but if you do certain exercises your thighs get toned up . Look at my avatar if that is anything to go by.It also tones your top shoulders and you end up having a tight tum too, all in one. The first time I tried it I couldn't do 10 sit ups. Now I can do up to 1000 if I chose too, but I don't want to be too muscular so I do 400 daily, and don't suffer at all! Hatha yoga is another one.Hope that helps.

Of course. Sorry about that. They are pretty hard to follow without punctuation.

Ok so the consensus is to run. However, I can never run more than 25 minutes at a time. I work out a lot -shouldn't longer distances be getting easier by now? What do you do to run longer times -unless people stop in between which I don't. Also running reenergises me whereas yoga makes me exhausted which makes me think that yoga is probably using more cals?

can anybody suggest ways to tone the inner thighs? I do pilates and/or NYC Ballet workout for an hour each day (with one rest day) and so far am seeing good results. If my measuring is correct i have slimmed my thighs by 3cm, only this is the outer thigh and the innner is way too flabby. I hate it! I can feel the muscle underneath but this part won't budge. My calves have also slimmed by 1.5 cm, though they weren't really my concern! I am happy my hard work is paying off but do I just keep going with what I am already doing and hope this improves or will i need to do extra on this part? this 'spot reduction' stuff confuses me so i don't know if i am doing the right things! thanks for any help.

hmmm...so pilates works for outer thighs ne? if so then i'll try it la.

This is the dvd i use http://www.buffgirlfitness.com/burnandfirmpilateslarger.htm

I believe it is not like regular pilates, it is almost aerobic, be prepared to put in some hard work and dedication. It took just over two months though which I guess is considered fast? I will still continue with it, even if it is a killer and doesn't seem to get easier (for me anyway) as you go along! I also combine it with the New York City ballet workout, this is good too for the legs and stomach!

You may bulk up more easily on your lower body. I'm the same way, though I wouldn't say my legs get "uglyl muscley". My calves just tend to get toned pretty easily.

the way I see it. the longer you can do something to more fat you burn. so walking is really good. you just have to walk a lot!

Does bicycling helps?

it helps if you bicycle for about hour and a half and really make yourself sweat. and repeat several times a week

I used to bicycle to work, (2hours of cycling every day) I thought it didn't make that big a difference, but now that I don't work there anymore, and don't do any exercise, I've noticed that it did help, a lot
