The MAC Makeup Thread

mac has this no questions asked kind of thing with returns. someone might ask why you're returning it to see if there is something else that could work for you. but they'll usually just take it back if it's returned within a certain amount of time (due to how long the bar code things are in the store's computer system)

^ No I don't think they do. The concept of MAC seem to stand for anything but to look ' natural '.

 especially if you go by what the SA's maekup looks like :p

i think that if you are selective you can do a great natural face with MAC makeup. there isnt a TM as such..... but improvise if you like. just mix foundation with moisturiser before you apply it to give sheer coverage ;)

^^^thank you for all the advice, I really appreciate it. I'm regularly clueless on this thread. I'd like to know about skinshimmer too please? What is it and how do you use it ?

hi everyone =)
I'm pretty new into make up but I heard it is really important to have good brushes to achieve good results.
I saw the new Holiday/luxuries by MAC and I've been thinking about getting one of these brushes sets:
http://www.maccosmetics.com/templates/products/sp.tmpl?CATEGORY_ID=CATEGORY15593&PRODUCT_ID=PROD9189
http://www.maccosmetics.com/templates/products/sp.tmpl?CATEGORY_ID=CATEGORY15593&PRODUCT_ID=PROD9190
but I was wondering if it is better to get the regular price ones, is there any difference?
Also, do you know why they have different prices even though they have the same brushes? I think it might be the box/stashette, which one would you recommend?
I'm sorry for all the questions! I hope this made sense :flower:

While their marketing is always pretty dramatic,I create lovely natural looks on my toffee coloured skin:). It's like Bobbi Brown, and we can't get Bobbi Brown in the Netherlands.

I think you can use the make-up the way you like:).

Yes, the price difference is in the packaging. Personally, I think this year's holiday packaging looks cheap and cheesy, but I know lots of people who think it's adorable, so that's personal preference.

The regular priced brushes are higher quality. The handles are made of better wood material, and the brush heads and mantled and shaped by hand. They also have longer handles. The ones that come in gift sets are by machine. Many people find that the regular brushes are longer lasting and have better results. BUT, to get all those in the set at regular prices is very expensive. And for the price of the set, those brushes are still very decent, certainly better than drugstore brushes and even those from many department store counters. It's a great beginner set.

So I would say if you already have two or more similar brushes, get the regular ones, but if you don't have any thing like the brushes in the set, get the set. You can always build around the set later.

Act fast, because many places are already sold out.

yes, the brush sets are of lower quality than the individual ones. but the sets are great as starter brushes or for travel

Btw, on the topic of brushes ... I agree that a good brush makes a difference. However, I don't think you really need that many. Here's what I have:

these I use on a daily basis:

a powder brush
a blush brush
an eyeshadow brush
an eyebrow brush

these I use frequently:

lip brush

these I use rarely:

eye liner brush (I actually like the brush that comes with Chanel cake liner much better than this MAC one)
concealer brush

I bought all mine individually. Some are MAC, but I've got probably 5 different manufacturers represented.

PS Totally agree with Quirky ... you can do anything you want with the makeup. It's much more flexible than say, heavily-pigmented Chanel.

Thank you to everyone that replied :flower:

I already have some brushes. I think I'll save to get the regular ones because I want lasting ones ^_^

Their holiday gift sets are out right now, I am planning on stocking up! THey have the set of 5 pigements for only $30! They also have the brush sets for $30 as well at Norsdtrom of course they always run out. You can take back make up that don't work for you ?
I thought you can't.

Yes they always take their product back if you get it home and dont like it, I dropped my studio fix one time and it crumbled so I sent them an email from their website, I got an email a couple days later asking for my address and color I wore, they shipped me out a new one free of charge!

Really??!?

This is news to me. Does it matter how long you've had it? Do you have to have a receipt of purchase?

If so, I dropped one of my MAC eye shadows...

I've been meaning to ask ... does MAC make a foundation primer, and if so, is it good?

ta-ta, They definitely do but I cannot remember what it is called and I have never used it...I use Laura Mercier.

Yeah they have one called MAC Prep+Prime Skin :flower:
I haven't used it but my friends have and they've said it very good.

keke, i just e-mailed MAC telling them about how the studio fix is making me break out and such.. aish i've had it for like 2 months now.. oh well=P we will see what they do about it. =) wish me luck!.. if they offer to send me a new product, which foundation will match acne prone skin? with moderate coverage.. and please don't break me out more.. i was thinking the liquid one.. not the hyporeal one, but the normal spf 15 one =)
