The MAC Makeup Thread

There's going to be a red collection? Oh man, if it comes here I'm in trouble (well, more specifically, my purse is in trouble).

Looks like I missed the boat to get Port Red. I hesitated last weekend to think about it but now it's sold out online and at the 4 stores in my city!! So hopefully, the Cult of Cherry will have so fabulous reds instead. In the meantime, I guess I will stick with what I have.

Do we have any members working for MAC (or have worked for MAC in the past)? If so, I have a few questions. If you could PM me I would be forever in your debt

does anyone have pics of the neo sci fi nail polishes?

i'm talking irl, on-the-hand pics.

I went to get my Neo Sci-Fi today and my Nordie's hadn't gotten a lot in. They only got Time & Space of the eyeshadows, and they didn't get Electro and one of the other lipsticks. They also didn't get the volcanic ash exfoliator. I loved Sci-Fi-Delity on, it is definitely a lot lighter than it seems. Pink Grapefruit was a definite. Then the girl insisted on me trying the blushes and bronzers. I'm not feeling them as much, however she got me to get Spaced Out. The packaging is truly bright orange. I'm talking a step below traffic cone.

Also Nordie's is doing preorders for Colour Forms. The Colour Form powders are way cool, they are like a bullseye but the inner three colours are squares. The palettes are way cool as well.

Starflash launches on July 31st.

Also Dazzleglasses are a permanent item! Thanks to all of us...hahaha.

Ohh I hate the UK for being so behind, I want neo sci-fi to be out here already, mainly for the nailpolish.

Ok you MAC experts, I need your advice. :)

What three pigments can I buy for a great neutral smokey eye look? I'm not really good at knowing what shades to put together so if anyone can give me their advice I'd appreciate it! I looked on the website for a quad shadow palette for the smokey look, but I didn't see any. :/

Well I don't do smokey eyes so I wouldn't be much help, but Cult of Cherry will have palettes that would be good for smokier eyes.

Trista,
You always give the best reviews on mac, right on the spot! I am looking to purchasing the Bronzing powder from the solar collection, but not sure which one is the dark and light one? Is the volcanic ash permanent or limited?

For my version of a smoky eye, you need a neutral base, grey/silver and a black. My base and silver are shimmery tones, I think it blends better, and I use also powders instead of pigments - but here's what I do :flower:
I do a base of Vanilla e/s all over (there is also a Vanilla pigment which is slightly different). Then all over the eyelid I do a wash with a pale silvery colour, such as Electra. In the corners I use Silver ring (which is a dark silvery grey which you can build easily, meaning you don't have to have a seperate silver e/s for the eyelid) and blend, and finally use a black, such as Carbon to do along the lash line.

If you are near a Mac Pro store, they have some lovely pigments I've just seen on the website, such as Silver and Silver Fog, but for me the number one buy is Silver Ring eyeshadow which is available everywhere. I'm happy to do a swatch if you want also :woot::flower:

Thank you sooo much Trista and miu_miu that was really helpful!! If you don't mind I would like to see some swatchesbut don't go out of your way.
Again thank you :flower:

If you are paler in skintone, I do NOT recommend the bronzers...or at least with the brush the girl had me use. It would almost be something where you'd want to use a 187 because you would otherwise get too much colour on the brush, or you want to use something really fluffy, and scrape the top very lightly. Refined Golden is the lighter of the two and even that was almost too dark for me, so I got Spaced Out because I don't have my full summer tan yet. Also the other cool thing is my normal counter got restocked fully with Naughty Nauticals...but I figure everything will be CCO-bound sooner or later. The Volcanic Ash exfoliator is a LE item, however I've been hearing some amazing reviews about it. I'm thinking about getting it when it gets in, but it hasn't been shipped yet.

I honestly have no lemmings until the mineralized duos come out in August and I only have my eye on one of them. I have my eye on the prize for the holiday collection.

Same here,
nothing that's been out lately has really tickled my fancy.
I was so excited for naughty nauticals, only to be dissapointed when I actually sore it.

The holiday collection is going to kill my bank account though B)

Well I went the other day to the Freestanding and they had Electro in which is AMAZING. It's definitely not for the faint of heart but it doesn't go on neon-it goes on almost corally. Very good for warmer skintones. The eyeshadows weren't impressing me at all. Expensive Pink looks bleh, and I can always get it at the FS since it is a perm colour. Evening Aura is EXACTLY like UD Jones so if you have Jones, you do not need EA. Femme-Fi is like Ricepaper but with more gold apparently-I don't need another highlighter since I am waiting for Solar White (Cool Heat) and I abuse Crystal Avalanche. Magnetic Fields is actually a lustre, it was mislabeled.

Also the Volcanic Ash Exfoliator? LOVE IT. It is amazing to use on any skin type-people who have drier skin loved that it got rid of some of the unevenness, and us oilier folks love how it cleanses without stripping. My skin felt softer and smoother and really evened out. I will be buying a jar or two of this.

I am loving the lippies from the Neo Sci-Fi collection. I got three today and I just love them: Pink Grapefruit - absolutely gorgeous!! Sci-Fi Delity - love it! and Naked Space which is not that different but I actually need a neutral colour and it's lovely. I was tempted by the Evening Aura eyeshadow since I don't have any thing similar - it's a nice orangey shimmer but I will think about it.

I have another question...

I heard that you can order the empty MAC Pro Palettes over the phone (there are no MAC stores in my state) even if you are not a Pro member. I called the 800 number and began the ordering process but then the woman I was talking to said if I didn't have a PPID number the computer wouldn't let her continue. Like I said I've been told by several people that you DO NOT have to be a Pro member to order this, I asked her to check with a manager but she refused :/

So do you in fact have to be a Pro member to order? Or am I getting screwed? If anyone knows anything about this and can give me some info I'd appreciate it :)

I'm not familiar with MAC products, mostly because I don't really venture into makeup other than foundation and eyeliner, but I'm considering going into a MAC store for a consultation soon. Have any of you gone? How was the experience? Also wondering if there was a cost other than tipping.
