The MAC Makeup Thread

I have another question...

I heard that you can order the empty MAC Pro Palettes over the phone (there are no MAC stores in my state) even if you are not a Pro member. I called the 800 number and began the ordering process but then the woman I was talking to said if I didn't have a PPID number the computer wouldn't let her continue. Like I said I've been told by several people that you DO NOT have to be a Pro member to order this, I asked her to check with a manager but she refused :/

So do you in fact have to be a Pro member to order? Or am I getting screwed? If anyone knows anything about this and can give me some info I'd appreciate it :)
You do not have to be a Pro member to order over the phone from a Pro store-it would almost be like saying that you could not shop in the Pro store unless you had the card. I know you can order the palettes from any freestanding or Pro store, so you may just want to try a different one.

june_gloom-As far as a consultation goes, it would probably be best to try and go in on a weekday morning, or later in the evening. Consultations should be free, it's the makeover that is the $50 that can go towards product. I went twice. The first time was when I was looking at pigments, and the girl ended up doing my eyes. She was great. Then the second was for an eye look and I made the mistake of going on the Fafi launch. It was a nightmare. Don't go for a consultation or anything on the day of a launch. Also come with a fairly open mind-they will be able to help you choose the right products for you.

The VAE is good for all skin types, acne included. It looks scary because it is a dark, black goo (that's the ash for ya). However it goes on really nicely and the sugar is what helps to scrub the face. While I am a microbrasion fan, I generally prefer sugar or fruit seeds-you know, something more natural. It definitely scrubs however it is gentle. It's supposed to not cause more acne but I don't have the acne that I used to-it's just sometimes my skin can break out horribly. I'm not a big fan of a lot of acne stuff anyways if all you have is a zit every now and again. I'm almost considering using it in the morning instead of at night, because I'm to the point where I stopped wearing foundation and if it can do that for me...

Oh yeah, I saw pics of Colour Forms. They are HOT. The powders are the three squares and then the final one that rounds out to fit the normal powder sizing. Everything has a little MAC plate on it, except the pigments and potentially the Richmetal highlighters. The lipsticks have the outer ring of colour and then the inner is neutral shimmer. It'll be interesting how those ones work. The pigments look underwhelming. I thought I would get all but Jardin Aires and Steel Blue, but I knocked Royal Flush and Tea Time off my list. The Richmetal highlighters aren't impressive but Rose Buillion is a possibility for me.

The palettes and brush sets are awesome though. The palettes for the lips are just three rectangles in a column with brush, and they're all very wearable shades. The eye palettes are two shades stacked, and then three next to them. The brush sets contain a bag AND a brush holder. The advanced is the one that comes with the choice of coloured bags, as well as the 187SE.

so volcanic ash can help with breakouts? i used to always get one massive zit on my chin right before my cycle. now that i'm on the pill, i no longer get the chin zit, but i do get a mild batch of blemishes (not raised, but still there, imho) on each cheek while i'm on my period. the big zit was easier to cover!

i bought the blue polish from neo sci-fi and one of the bronzers for my sister. i haven't tried the polish yet, but if i do the blue on my hands, i don't really want to do it on my feet as well...not keen on being matchy-matchy with this color. so what do i do with my feet?

Well I wouldn't say that the VAE helps with breakouts but I find for me, if you take decent care of your skin, such as using an exfoliator every night, you will find that you won't break out as much. I get zits from stress, as well as after I get my brows waxed, but not full-on acne anymore. I would say though that it is gentle enough to be a daily scrub, to really get stuff out of the pores.

As far as a good nail polish, I would switch it up and do a pale colour on the toes. People usually save the fun colours for the toes and do their neutrals on their fingers, so why not change it up?

i'm in canada right now, and it isn't quite open toe weather all of the time yet, so it want to do it on my nails.

i'll look into VAE. i have pretty flawless skin, so the pill giving me these blemishes has me going nuts.

Thanks a million Trista. I think I am going to go buy the VAE to try it. I do however find it lame that they make limited edition SKIN CARE. WTF will I do if it works well?!

If you have drier skin though, you may want to avoid that, as the ash will draw the impurities to the surface. The thing with MAC is that mass emailing campaigns seem to really help out. I think if enough people email them, they might bring it back or relaunch it. That's what is happening with the Dazzleglass-it was rumour for a few weeks but they just heard this week that it is official, they will be relaunched eventually. The Mattenes, same deal.

Also there will be an Icon collection this fall-in addition to all 8000 other collections they do (Manish Arora, Ungaro, Cult of Cherry, Overrich, and then in October the start of the Holidays...).

Oh my skin is far from dry! Good idea about the campaigns though. I know that is how Parrot got re-released.

I wonder who the Icon is this year. Specktra has had some guesses but none that really are Icon-ic to me. I wish for a Dolly Parton Icon!

It is hard (I am on there, so I know all about it) because it's supposedly a younger icon but there aren't really a ton of choices. It could end up being someone who is not as well known to the general American public. I honestly had never heard of Raquel Welch til recently, and I only knew of Catherine Deneuve because I saw Huit Femmes. Gwen Stefani, I do see as being iconic. She's always been known as a style maven IMO.

Well I went to MAC and they sold out of the VAE already! I was so bummed! I might just order it online.

I did however get the E-Z Baby Tendertone which is a perfect milky pink.

Looks like the VAE is sold out online as well. I really wanted to try this product but what is the point of having a LE product like this that you can never use again. I understand colour items but facial products that you like you usually want to repurchase. Oh well. I guess skipping it will be for the best in case I really love it and can't have it again.

I know! It's so annoying. Hopefully they'll make it perm if a lot of people like it but the whole idea of LE skincare is dumb IMO. Otherwise I'll hope and pray it makes it up to a CCO.

I know, I mean enough people let MAC know about the Dazzleglass that this winter they will be relaunched, so I have a feeling that will happen with the VAE. Well, at least I hope. I will get a jar if I am good and don't spend any more money before next Friday.

Oh and my Nordie's had Cool Heat to preorder-they had the slimshines and all the shadows but Gulfstream. Warming Trend and Warm Chill underwhelmed-Warming Trend looks to be bleh to me, but I might get it as I have no neutrals, and Warm Chill is very much like Moodring from the Heatherette Trio 1. The two darker shades look pretty in the pan, but I swatched Blue Flame on my hand and no-go. Climate Blue is sparklier, but also very dark. I preordered Solar White, which is a nice goldish white, and Cool Heat, which I had no need to swatch. Also got Tropic Glow slimshine-it's a really nice watermelon pink with sparkle in it. All the Slimshines are very, VERY wearable and summery. If you love blues and you love darks, you will love this-however Starflash has some really nice dark blues. If you aren't as into the blues and such, at least give the lips and Solar White a try, and if you don't like those, then get yourself some perm items.

(my Cool Heat review in a nutshell)

You know I saw swatches over on Specktra and I thought that I'd be really into the collection but I'm not! I don't know why but it's not calling my name anymore. I am just waiting out for the mineralized eyeshadows. I only want one but I might be tempted with more.

Well it is good that I can cut my wishlist down; and figure I have enough shades I don't already use that I can cut out ones that are too similar. That being said, I am excited-it is a very trendy collection since blue eye makeup is HUGE for fall, but still wearable.

I am liking some, but not all of the MES duos. I could see myself with 5 or 6 of the 9 of them. Starflash, I only want maybe 6 of the shadows. Wherever I can cut, it is good for me. Once there are better pics and swatches though, all decisions go out the window. I want the actual MSF's...I just got Light Flush today and I love it to death.
