The MAC Makeup Thread

Have any of you used MACs wipes? Are they worth buying? I am going to be on a long-haul flight for Christmas and I was considering buying them for the flight to freshen up etc.

I haven't used them myself however I hear that they are an essential to many people. I mean you could get cheaper wipes elsewhere, but you can use the case for the wipes as a B2M item.

I find them kinda wasteful as the sheets are too big IMO but they smell great and unlike many other wipes, are actually quite moisturizing. I would get them for a flight since it's a hassle bringing liquid cleaners...

I'm a makeup artist and while I'm in love with the MAC brand I absolutely loathe their wipes. Their thin and tend to irritate the eyes. There are plenty of better and less expensive wipes, like those from Sephora and Ponds. My absolute favorites were Pout's deceased Makeup Melts. They were thick like cotton cloths and very hydrated. They also removed eveything in practically one swipe. You didn't have to "scrub" like you do with MAC's. No irritation at all. :(

I love MAC Wipes - they take off everything easily in one swipe, they smell nice, they don't leave any residue. As far as I'm concerned the only downside is the price.

I've tried some Oil of Olay ones and they're not bad, but I have to scrub a little bit which I don't have to do with the MAC Wipes.

Well what you could always do is cut them in half or in smaller portions. That way, you get a lot more mileage out of each one.

My reds of choice are Flash-n-Dash, Port Red, and then Kiss Manish...I haven't gotten into as many of the permanent reds, although New York Apple is one I will get eventually.

i think the red i want is the viva glam 3. reds are tricky on me as i have freckles and pale skin. i think red lipstick looks best on people that have matte and uniform complexions.

See everyone CAN find their right one, they just have to find the right tone as far as colour goes and then the right finish. I could never pull off a matte lip of any kind, especially a red, but a frostier red like Port Red is amazing on me-and plus matte anything is forbidden in my traincase.

Anywhoo Kiss and Makeup has some pictures of the Hello Kitty collection up. I gotta say-not overly impressed. The lipglasses shown look like Pink Manish and Pink Grapefruit, although it could be the lighting. One of the lipsticks looks like a pinker version of Tropic Glow. The blush is looking mighty appealing though. The shadow quads are bleh-both of them have repromos. One has Yogurt, the other has Paradisco, and then one of them has Romping.

Hi! I just bought the Red She Said MAC lipstick and I love it! At first I was reluctant to get it because it is a shade i don't usually wear but I've been seeing a lot of girls wearing a similar hue even in the daytime here in Madrid so I ventured out and now I just can't get enough of it. I'm even thinking on stocking up as it IS a limited edition....Do you know any similar shades?

Yep, I refer to all those collections as the "couture" collections, since they have the higher price point. I have a very similar complaint about the applicator for the lipglasses in the couture collections. Way too stiff, and too hard to apply the product with. Red She Said was different because the Dazzleglasses always have the brush-tip applicator and not the doe foot sponge tip.

Thank you for explaining:flower: and I agree completely, the exact same thing I meant.

I'd bought 'Red' she said lipstick as well, but I don't like the red on me after all, so I passed it on to my mother. The only reds that seem to suit me are the more pinkish or leaning towards nude colors. Haven't found my ultimate red yet though. Maybe I just don't like it on me.

Well MAC releases several limited edition reds a year, so you'll be bound to find one that is similar. I wish I had gotten Red She Said, but money has been tight for several months now, and I much prefer my Kiss Manish (LOVE IT!). Anywhoo, Red She Said is described as a mid-tone blue-red, and it's an AC (Amplified Creme). MAC Red seems to be the closest permanent red, at least as the description goes, but it is a satin. I find that I prefer AC's over satins. I know at least on the US site none of the Red She Said lippies sold out, so I think you might have a good chance at stocking up. Like I said earlier though, every year you see a lot of limited edition reds, so you'll be bound to find something else you like.

i hope you can help me.
what kind of eyeliners from mac would you recomend?
i hardly use one, but i want to change that, because i really like the look.

I just wanted to let everyone know that all of the MAC Holiday collections have been marked down and they're 25% off. This deal is going on in-store (definitely US and Canada, possibly elsewhere?) and also on maccosmetics.com! Some great deals for the brush sets and the palettes. If you were on the fence about the collections before, it might be worth checking them out again.
