The MAC Makeup Thread

The main one of those I would have been interested in was the Glamour Bag-which has the Belightful IPP, Bare Slimshine, a mini Zoomlash, and a 181SE. The brush sets were $35 at Nordie's this year, and honestly I would rather get the Colour Forms brush sets at the CCO, since they were better quality AND you get the little brush wallet.

Sadly, I've already got the things I wanted from the holiday sets. They were a birthday gift from my mom. I feel bad for her having paid full price, though. MAC going on sale is pretty unexpected. But I guess that's just a reflection of the current economic state.

Oh, gosh! Me too! I did a make-up appointment a couple months ago and the MUA applied it on me and I loved the look, but I am so unbelievably inept at any kind of eye liner application that I'm afraid I'll buy it and never get any use out of it.

I got myself the little darling today in nude and the warm pigments. Happy with it all, except for the fact that I haven't figured out completely how to use the pigments exactly. Working on that

The warm pigments set is definitely the easiest to use, if you aren't as familiar with pigments. Most of those I would use as a crease colour, maybe mixed with a pigment like Fuschia for a blush, and so forth.

Also Chill is up online now. It's a small collection, but there's definitely a couple interesting things in there.

There are a couple of things I'd like to get from Chill (Wintersky e/s, Frozen Dream l/g), but I'm trying to resist so that I have some money for Dame Edna.

that is promising that the holiday sets are on sale. i wonder if that extends to department stores? probably not...

maybe this means that mac wont go through with their price increases next year...

I know I will, I suck at using eyeliner pencils :innocent:If I can't apply it with a brush, then it isn't going to work :D I hope you can smudge it a bit, does anyone know?

I'm actually thinking of booking a make-up appointment and just getting extensive eyeliner application tips, techniques, etc. I feel like it would be worth it just to do that, and I'll have nearly bought enough product for it just by getting the brush and the fluidline.

Well here are my tips with the Fluidline:

Use a 212 brush for the lower and then a 209 for the upper. I suggest the 210 once you get more comfortable-but a 209 and Fluidline are a match made in heaven. You also just need to take your time, and I find what helps is using my makeup mirror-my stand mirror-and use the magnifying side, so that I can be sure my eyeliner is perfect.

As far as eye pencils go, I've never actually used any of MAC's-I stick to Urban Decay's because they have the silkiest formulation and they are foolproof for me-and I don't have the steadiest of hands.

The price increase, IIRC, has already been confirmed for months.

As far as Wintersky goes, I would definitely say that you can cut a DE item or two in order to get it. The beauty of Wintersky is that it's a Veluxe Pearl, and it's a more neutral-y pink...the closest colour that has been released to that in a VP is In Living Pink and that is NOWHERE close. Compare it to Dame Edna-both of the eye trios are clunkers. Can you say velvet and lustre purgatory? The highlight powders are like Balloonacy's-as in shimmer overspray and then a matte powder. The lip things are the best part, but honestly, the lipglasses seem fairly dupeable, and the only good lipstick I saw from the swatches was Coral Polyps. Gladiola is a matte pink, so it could be very similar to Hollywood Nights, and Kanga-Rouge is forgettable compared to all the other reds that have been out this year. For everything but the lip products, I honestly think you are better off skipping, unless you LOVE the packaging, and even then, wait til they are at the CCO.

Thanks Trista ^_^

I don't use eyeliner on my lower lashes, I'm too old for that :D I have a brush similar to the 212, I'm not really into the smaller pointier ones. But does it smudge? :shifty:

Thanks Trista!

Yeah, the veluxe pearl is definitely the attractive factor to me about Wintersky. Plus, Wintersky is something I know I'll get a ton of use out of, so it's a must. My very first MAC eyeshadow ever when I was waaaay younger was Pink Freeze, so I'll always have a soft spot for MAC's pinks.

In regards to Dame Edna, I agree with you about the eye colors. I'm definitely skipping those, in part because I have tons of dupes and also because I'm not crazy about any of the finishes. Now, if I could manage to get one of the empty packages and fill it with my own colors, I'd be ecstatic! Because it's the packaging that I really love. I'll probably just be getting a bunch of the lip colors, though. There are definitely dupes, but my MAC collection has a distinct lack of lipsticks/glosses in it so that's not an issue.

I'm thinking the Blonde Brunette Redhead collection is also going to be costly for me, but after that I'm cutting myself off for a while because I have zero interest in Hello Kitty.

Thanks Trista ^_^

Well I consider the waterline and lower liner to be different. Lower liner, to me, is underneath the lashes-the underside of the lower lash line. Also it can be lower-lid liner in some books. Waterline is the tear line. You are never too old to be doing lower liner though. I think you just have to find the right one for you. I was watching a talk show that's based in Canada and they had a makeup artist on who said "If a 70-year old lady is tightlining, more power to her!".

As far as the 212 goes, I actually saw Carmindy smudging with what looked to be a 212 on What Not To Wear. There is a brush coming out with the Hair collection-the 214 I believe-that is actually more of a smudge-y brush. You can also use a 231 to smudge. I rarely ever do though, since I don't topline that often since my shadows are so bright (my favourite MAC shadows, after all, are In Living Pink and Bright Sunshine).

See I wish that you could get the empty trio packaging. I would have never bought the Heatherette trios at retail, but I was gifted it. The nice thing is that you can depan and then use the thing as a palette in a way. I would definitely get the one with Climate Blue since that was a very popular colour with Cool Heat-and one of the ones to actually sell out.

The thing with the Hair collection is that everything is basics. None of the lip stuff is looking particularly interesting, and then the eyes are all on the more neutral side. I would rather track down Femme-Fi in the NSF packaging. If you love neutrals, then you will love Hair. The MSF's aren't as appealing, since I got So Ceylon and Petticoat, and hope to be getting Gold Deposit. If you don't have any MSF's, then go for the Hair ones. (I call it Hair-it makes it easier on me:))

As far as other collections I heard about, there is going to be Cremeteam, which is Cremesheen (a few repromos, and then some new or LE shades), Cremesheen glass, and then a few Cremesheen pencils. Apparently there will also be a lot more to do with lashes and mascara. The mascara seems like Dazzlelash, but a double-ended mascara that has a Cils Booster-like thing on one end and then Dazzlelash on the other. There's also going to be honey-scented body products. Yet another thing I heard, although this is just rumour, is that there will be a pink collection.

I just got the new monogram collection, the brushes, the blushes and the pouch...i dont know why i got th pouch..i think it was an impluse buy...but i am still confused with the brushes...i got a lesson from a mac make up artist on how to contour...and she did it on my face and it looked AMAZING...she applied the strobe cream ( which btw did wonder's by itself) then she started stroking all sorts of brushes and blushes on my face...i felt i had tons of make up....but when i opened my eyes......my whole face was so scuplutred! it looked stunningly amazing and the funny thing is, its as if i never had an ounce of make up on....i want to master the contouring art! does contouring differ from face to face? and the strobe cream ( i dont rememember if she applied it all over my face or on certain parts)...also i want to invest in a good foundation brush...any recommendations?:) Thansk :) :flower:

So it is smudgeable... I was worried that it would dry too fast, but apparantly not ^_^

But seriously, nothing at all goes on my lower lid/eyelashes/waterline ever. It truly does make me look old, trust me on that. No brush can save me :ninja:

The 231 does look interesting...

Oh, you were meaning Fluidline being smudgeable? I honestly don't know, but you will want to apply with a brush like a 219, a brush that is a pencil liner. It's gonna be shorter and fatter. You will have to work quickly though because it's a gel formula. The 231 is definitely on my Christmas list-and I will get two at the CCO if I don't get any from the parents. It's a fairly cheap brush, and it works wonders for applying trickier shadows. I find it is amazing with all yellow shadows, Bright Sunshine especially, and then it is good for velvets as well.

As far as the contouring goes, I honestly have no idea as far as that goes.

I read a review on MUA that it smudges well - of course you have to be quick about it, but apparently it lasts forever :D I don't think I'll wear it for a daytime look as I'm blonde and pale and such, but nothing beats a simple smudged black eyeliner for nightime :brows:

Well both Dame Edna and Lash-n-Dash are now online. Lash-n-Dash is basically a lash collection-repromoing a few styles, with two new LE ones. One of them is a wispier lash, the other is a very dense, dramatic wing-style lash.

I'm not looking forward to going to the store on the 26th for Dame Edna but I went two days after the launch for Chill and my closest store was already sold out of Wintersky. Guess I'll be braving the madness of boxing day here!
