The Mascara Thread

In one of my previous jobs (corp office of a beauty retailer) one of my co-workers used to constantly apply mascara throughout the day. At least three to four times. She would just add it right on top of what she was already wearing. Does anyone do that? Is that a particular method? It looked like she was pulling at her lashes because the mascara is so dry.

Also, what do you use to remove mascara? I have a hard time getting mine off. It ends up around my eyes giving me dark circles. I try to remove it, but I don’t want to pull at my skin either.

ETA: I just saw info here on DHC and Shiseido cleansing oil. I think I will try that unless anyone has something better. :)
Ew no I hate putting mascara on over mascara, it always go flaky and ugh.

I searched high and low in Toronto's Yorkdale Mall, and no one had the Givenchy Phenomen'Eyes Mascara. No one. I was really disappointed, because I was hoping to see if the hype was deserved.

I've tried just about every single mascara out there and diorshow was my favorite until I tried givenchy. Last two shipments sold out in less than 2 days so I made sure to go the day of the shipment to get it. It's AMAZING!! The diorshow formula is better but the brush gets every last lash so you really get a dramatic look.

wow, the givenchy brush looks crazy but i would love to try it

blackmascara - you tried the holt renfrew on bloor yet? or the stores in that area?

i been using Lancome's mascara for a couple years now and never really used anything else. drug store mascaras i got always get thrown aside when i get new mascara freebies from my mom

i tried the Givenchy mascara (bought it @Sephora) and it really catches every lash. however,it makes my lashes really soft, which is different from my diorshow (waterproof). i dont know if its b/c the Givenchy is not waterproof or what but once I applied the Givenchy, I can not curl my lashes (even when it is already dried) b/c they become so soft, I am terrified of breaking my own lashes.

When I need to clean my brush, I run it under hot water. Is that okay? Like, would it ruin the construction of the brush to hold it between my finger tips while I try to wash out the clumped, dry mascara?

Does anyone have any tips on how to stop mascara from smudging. I always put it on in the morning and then have panda eyes when i blink before it's dried. Any tips ? Also what in your opinion is your favourite mascara? I need a good one :) ty!

^ No ideas on the smudging, I have really dry eyes so it's never happened to me,
but I swear by MAC plushlash,
a lot of people seem to hate it, but it's amazing on my lashes.

I like Maybelline's black and white mascara...but I don't like my mascara too "obvious" I guess so it's a personal preference ;)

maybelline's always smudges with me
my favourites generally are maxfactor's mascaras. but they become dry very fast ! i buy from maxfactor almost every month ! today i got masterpiece max..
i also got volume clubbing mascara from bourjois  absoutely love it !!

maybe you should try a waterproof mascara. i had the same problem with all my makeup, specially mascara. but when i got contact lenses i changed to waterproof, problem solved.

And to remove mascara, i use cleansing wipes and when heavy makeup just lots of cream.

by the way i bought the Chanel Exceptionnel mascara and its just nice..not thaaat good. the brush is really cool to avoid clumps but it doesnt give you ANY volume at all.

I used to have the smudgy problem as well. As soon as I switched to waterproof mascara, the problem was solved. Maybe you could give that a try.

I have the same issue with the Chanel mascara daniellat! I really like the brush, but it doesnt do that much for the volume of my lashes. It also smudges!! Grrr...I paid 30 bucks for it and now it smudges.

I ould also go with the waterproof. I am on thhe waiting list for the new Lancome vibrating one so woohoo!

Does anybody know where I can find cheap, really cheap colored mascara in Europe? The only ones I've found were by essence, but they had glitter in them, and thats not exactly what I'm looking for. I hear max factor has new ones, does anyone know how much those are?

No, I didn't... but I'm in Kingston at the moment for school, so I think my best bet is finding it online or something like that. Thanks for the suggestion though!

i've just recently purchased the dior ICONIC mascara and i thought it was pretty good. My only problem was that the black isn't "black" enough.

I always wear a layer of primer (shiesido) before i put on the mascara and Iconic didn't dissappoint.

My fav yet is awake's all direction startdom mascara..but it's only sold in japan..and i don't think i'm going to japan anytime soon.

I've been wanting to try the iconic mascara but my local sephora doesnt have it yet and it was sold out online last time I checked. Did you like it more than the regular diorshow?

I bought iconic a week ago and I now preach to anyone that will listen that it is the BEST mascara I have ever ever used. I have short, useless, downy lashes and this makes my eyes look doll-like, huge and my lashes are clump and tangle free. It does lack blackness, but I assume they'll bring out another version for winter with extra blackness. Honestly, try it, and one thing I noticed, it works better without a primer. Other mascaras I own are Elizabeth Arden Ceramide (which is brilliant too), L'oreal beauty tubes, Diorshow Blackout, Lancome Hypnose (both types), Max Factor Masterpiece, Benefit Bad Gal Lash....actually, the list is ridiculous so I wont' go on.

Has anyone tried the new Max Factor False Lash mascara? I don't know whether to bother now I have iconic.

Thanks mindbear! how does it compare to blackout? I've tried it too but found it clumped too much.
