Im as light as Air, floating as a feather:lol:
i never said people couldnt have thier own standards
niether did i fail to respect others opinions (if it seemed that way im sorry)

i just wanted to simply state my perspective, and help to be a counterpoint in the discussion...............................

Marc Jacobs - yeah, I've always liked his stuff (not all, but a good deal of it) and I still do. Is he overexposed? hell yeah. Am I sick of his boring bags, YES. But I love the shoes he did for this fall so much that I just can't hate..

Sean John (P. Diddy)! CFDA award?! How much did he have to pay for that honour?

^ totally agree, although his stuff is not as bad as most celebrity stuff. i mean beyonce's house of whatever you call it? beyonce would have to pay more to get me to wear any of her stuff than diddy had to pay to get that award. oh, and let's not forget baby phat...

zamb, btw, i don't think you can use retail success as a guideline. kimora is very successful, as is diddy... wouldn't you think they're overrated?

What!? He got a CFDA? The world is crazy. For what did he get that for? Posing with his harem in well-photoshopped ads?

Kimora is the same.

well yea they are , but retail success is just a single item on the list i gave, it wasnt meant as the sole determining factor.
also, i could have made the list longer, but i just wanted to give an example of possible criteria.
after all , i dont consider these people designers, they are just celebrities with clothing lines, as they dont really design anything..........

my list is long and doesnt include the very obvious,
please dont hate me for this list...

John Galliano: i can't stand his work at Dior
Olivier Theyskens: excuse me but i find his work too much buzz for nothing
Hussein Chalayan: intellectualism is so yesterday news, i find it 'old', interesting but not modern at all.
DSquared: seriously overrated
Cavalli: no words
Bernhard wilhelm: innocence gone bad
Armani: falling asleep, he's been reworking himself to boredom
Stella McCartney: she really doent deserve the investment
Raf Simmons: great jackets are not enough
Versace: including the Gianni era
Zac Posen: even though he's making an effort he doesnt deserve the glory

and last but not least..
mr Tom Ford: maybe the most overrated of all the above...

OMG! This list .. so many designers I think I got a cut or two from all the blades Lena threw at this people!:lol:

PS Agree on Mr Ford ... I just want him for boudoir purposes :brows:

If I have to hear one more comment about how so many designers copy the innovative creative genius that is Miucci Prada, I will have to choke a b!tch. Baggy, natural toned jackets and skirts aren't innovative!!!

I'm sorry but I don't understand what's so special about Prada. The last collection wasn't a good and their latest mens wear was scary. I think Ellie Saab just recycles whatever Versace and Cavalli did over again. Kimora Lee Simmons pretends to makes clothes for the "urban" woman but I dont see many "urban" women dressing like hookers from 2003.

kimora simmons
carolina herrera
monique lhuillier
sean combs
john galliano
john galliano for dior
beyonce for house of horrible
Marni
prada...i completely agree with scott..i would love to see which designers she takes ideas from
calvin klein
Dsquared
raf simmons
zac posen

^^I wouldn't call the likes of Beyonce, Sean Combs and Kimora Simmons designers anyways....I just disagree with you on Raf Simons, esp on his progressive menswear influence

i can see where u disagree, i just personally wouldnt wear jil sander, its just not me

Truthfully, I think most of them are overrated. I think of many modern day designers the way I think of modern day celebrities.

The best are the old school or "classic" designers/celebrities. For example, Chanel and Elizabeth Taylor are classics. Very few (if any) can touch them.

I believe the best designers are still the oldest labels, the same way the most beautiful Hollywood starlets are the old school/silver screen actresses (i.e. Elizabeth Taylor, Audrey Hepburn, Sophia Loren, Vivien Leigh, Dorothy Dandridge, Lena Horne, Marilyn Monroe, Grace Kelly, etc.)

Likewise, very few, if any of the modern designers can touch the likes of Chanel, Dior, or Salvatore Ferragamo in my opinion.

Also, I am sick and tired of seeing every celebrity create a fashion line because it's "in style" (PUN INTENDED)!

Think of something original.

However, I do like Ralph Lauren, Vera Wang, Valentino, and yes, even Marc Jacobs among others. It's just that the oldest are still the "best" (or among the best) in my opinion!
