I just ordered a size 12 Stella McCartney dress...anyone here have any tips about her sizing? is it true or cut small like most designers?

I's say her sizing it true to size from my experience, although some lower end lines do vanity sizing so its hard to know what is "true" anymore.

Depends on the cut - anything volume will prob be okay, but I find she runs a little smaller than most in terms of the tailored stuff. Depends on your measurements too!

I like Marjorie's jewelery in pics #511 & #512. Those would be good signature pieces for her.

I just want to let thread subscribers know that I've visited the Liz Claiborne website a few times and found some very good casual pieces that mix well with items I already have. I was surprised to find some cropped jackets and a few other more modern styles as well.

Another thing I like about this line is that the sizing is generous. I can still easily wear a regular extra-large in this line where I can't in several others. Not that I'm into what size my garment is anymore but there are just more options in regular sizes as we all know.

I need to look at this. My favorites are a couple of other Liz-owned labels: Dana Buchman and Ellen Tracy, particularly the latter. I can fit into XLs in both and 18s in Ellen Tracy. Dana only goes up to 16 in misses.

Just as an update..I just got my Stella dress in the mail and the sizing is great! Fit like a dream!

A few years ago I gave away some of my beautiful, classic Dana Buchman pieces to my best friend. I was so sad to see them go. And yes, I also love Ellen Tracy.

That is a gorgeous dress on Jennifer Hudson. I love the color, sash, embellishment. Just stunning on her.:woot:

I'm glad to hear that. When you're trying a designer that you haven't purchased from before it's a real leap of faith.

Rant

I'm a business writer and am interested in the business of fashion. Imagine my  when I find out that Liz Claiborne is thinking of divesting or possibly shuttering several of its brands, including my mainstay Ellen Tracy and Dana Buchman. That is NOT OK. I know that the younger women who post here are "meh" on those brands, but for me, they are professional, classic and age-appropriate.

On the other hand, maybe it will force me to shift more money into my IRA, traveling, etc.

^ Well, I wore those brands when I was younger ;)

That really surprises me! Are they not profitable? They're the mainstays in bridge departments here ... usually the only thing you can find in a mid-level department store that's at all interesting ...

Since my office no longer gets WWD.com, I don't have as much info as I should have. ET and DB are definitely bridge mainstays, and their plus lines are core parts of Saks' Salon Z.
I've worn ET since 1987. I'd be disappointed if the brand goes.

That would really upset me as well. I wore those brands more when I was a working professional but I've been harping on more choices for plus-size women so I hate to see any option disappear. Besides I like to invest in clothing that will last more than a few season and these lines carry well-made basics.

One thing that bugs me about the corporate world no end is that a venture can be making money, even a lot of money, but if it's not deemed to be enough money by the corporate management then the venture closes. classic1908, if you hear more about this please let us know. Thanks.

The models for EM look more full figured to me then "plus size", because they still hold their body proportion and they still have a "figure" if you will.

Plus size to me means that the person's body may be disproportionate and/or overly heavy in some area. I mean a plus size woman might have alot of weight that is distributed unevenly and may have to dress to "conceal" problem areas, so her style choices may be limited to what looks best on her at her current weight.

I agree... they look took...a bit hippy.
Plus size should be like 14-27 or something
The models look 10-12.

From what I know about the industry, if you are a size 10-14 and tall (meaning 5-9 or above), you're more likely to get work. To my knowledge, very few plus models do fashion work past 16 or 18. There was one model who I think was an 18-20 who I used to see in Mode about a decade ago.

noooooooooooo...I love Dana Buchman. I just got a fabulous white jacket from Saks.com sale marked down to $80ish. The pic does not do it justice. It has this nice detail in the back of the jacket that cinches in the back some. It is very flattering on curvy gals.
