I always love how Oprah assigned jobs to the models used in that spread - not saying the jobs aren't legit sometimes...but what's wrong with being called a model? Besides that, the line is $$$$$$$$.

Anyone seen the Essence with Mo'Nique and the huge amount of plus editorial?? Thoughts?

CCL's regular line is pricey, so I'm not surprised.
I have seen some pics and Mo looks nice. Essence, because of its core market, is probably the only magazine that can put a larger celebrity (Mo, Queen Latifah, Jill Scott, Angie Stone), along with plus fashion in their fashion coverage, and not suffer lower sales.

^ I had never heard of him before ... I think O called him something like "top designer" and I was like

A lot of those clothes look really cute, but "Design for All?". Last time I checked, most people could not drop 2 grand on a dress.

^ Yuhuh. Just because no one is selling clothes in that price bracket doesn't mean it's a good idea. MR used to do the occasional dress up in that range, but still...

I think O will call anyone who makes clothes for her that help her look smaller a 'top designer' LOL

Most can't but there's definitely a minority of affluent larger women, beyond just the celebrity market, who can buy them. Alas, I'm not one of them. I get my pricey things at places like Off Fifth.

And of course, although I'm pretty damn sure sure it may not work for the plus market (hence, why do we see so much boho STILL), the top-line stuff "inspires" mass marketers.

^ Boho seems to continue on across all markets  Even still being seen as a trend ... it's the trend that won't die :innocent:

^ I'm with you. It's not design at all, it's lazy-*** we-know-this-sells clothing that they can make for cheap. SO OVER IT!

I've just started working in Evans...
a plus size shop in the UK.

Its great to give people confidence who come in with none!

I need to update my wardrobe for fall- but I'm a college student's budget. I was thinking of going to Macy's maybe?? Lane Bryant is very expensive, so I might shop around a bit this weekend and see what I can find.

**Just a general rant: I really hate that most department stores carry straight cut winter coats. not all of us are shaped like a stick. I am curvy and have hips and a butt- I am shaped like a woman is supposed to be shaped. This is actually what upsets me about most retail chains/stores/brands. Design for real women please!**

^^
Check Macy's sales, although they haven't been as great lately (I miss the percentage off).

Anyway, here's MG w/Tory Burch at a society ball in New York. I like the gown.

^Well I think Massive Attack might be a little annoyed at the name of it...LOL The clothing looks fairly typical of the country. There are a lot of Danish plus manufacturers, always good to see someone else entering the market in a splashy way. The website is certainly better than I expected from a new company.

^^^MG is wearing a lovely dress but to my eye the dress needed more overall styling to it. It kind of looks like she just put it on and walked out the door - no attention to hair or makeup, at least by comparison to her friend.

^The woman in those pictures is far from plus sized! The only reason she is a UK size 16 (which is a US 12 anyway) is because she is tall. I understand the point they are trying to make, but what a lame example

Look, can we all agree that the models used to sell plus-size clothing aren't as big as most customers would like them to be and move on? The whole thing is a bit tired, especially when there is such hero worship of Crystal Renn and Kate Dillon et al who are also far from 'plus size', but nobody seems to complain about them....

Erika is 5'9". Her stats are 34dd-31"-41". She's wearing clothes that accentuate her figure and let's face it, the girl is all boobs and legs so it's easy to make her look smaller by throwing the emphasis on her legs (and by overlapping the photos *ahem*)

From what I've seen, even among plus models that have the same measurements there is a lot of difference in how they carry the weight. Some have it all on their upper body, some have really narrow waists but thicker legs, some look lean all over but they have a wide-hipped frame. All a good stylist does is figure out what to show, and picks clothes that work to best advantage, as seen in the article. We should all be so lucky to have someone do that for us!!
