I suspect the commenters aren't used to a larger woman in media and felt that perhaps, she needed a bit of color and sizzle. I like the dress myself, and if I were a mother of a teen like Jordin, I'd approve.

You're probably right. They would probably say the dress is a little mature and staid for a teen. I don't know her or her personality, but from the body language here I'm guessing something a little more playful would've suited her. But I think she looks fine.

I really like Nikki Blonsky here

justjared

she is very short, and i like the way she played with proportion.

I've been on vacation so have't had a chance to visit tFS for a while. I love all the new pictures. Thanks to all who posted. I think Jennifer, Jordan, Queen Latifah and Nikki blonsky all look great.

I always marvel at how well turned out QL consistenly is. In a sea of clothing how she managed to find such a perfect dress is beyond me. If she has a stylist that person must be very sharp. Her outfit is simply but very well accessorized too.

Queen is always on point in her public appearances. At one time, she was using a stylist named Susan Moses. I am not sure if Ms. Moses is still styling Latifah.

With Jenn, I've seen her done by ALT and Jessica Paster. Her ALT styling is hit and miss, but I think her JP stuff is well done.

Nicole Blonsky looks nice, and she's got the challenge of being 4'11," so she has to find things to work for her proportions.

And I just love Jordin. For the most part, she's age appropriate and not tarted up, as befits her upbringing.

Love that shot of Nikki Blonsky! She's not trying to hide any of her body, and because of her height it must be tricky to get the fit of everything right. Good for her.

hi everyone :) I thought i'd stop here as well. I am a plus size girl,oh well,i'm in the middle right now I guess,I went on a diet ( with a serious doctor mind you ) and lost about 30 kilos ( 66 pounds ) cause all the weight was making me seriously uncomfortable and was limiting me in what I could wear thus making me depressed....well,enough with personal no sense
what are you curvy girls going to wear at xmas? I'm all for new ideas
I have a black dress just like this in the pics

and i suppose i'm gonna throw something on my shoulders as well cause i'll be cold just in that.
what do you think about heels for curvy girls? I'm always hesitant because i think they will look a bit cheap when you don't have a slender ankle....so any thought?

btw this is me,circa last summer, hair is blonder though now, I'm looking forward seeing you other curvy girls :)

Iphygenia - welcome to our plussie thread and congrats on the recent weight loss!

I love heels but only wear them if I know I'm not going to be on my feet for an extended time. I used to be able to wear them indefinitely but the last few years, the weight I've gained makes it different for my feet and ankles. I do still have nice ankles (I think) but that's not always dependent on weight. I've seen thin women, dancers even, with the dreaded 'cankles.' The shape of a shoe's heel and width/lack of an ankle strap can make a dig difference too.

Believe it or not I don't yet have any formal parties to attend this holiday! Just casual get-togethers with family and friends. I'm a little relieved about it, but at some point I will probaly get a call from someone needing a date for something and I'll have to throw an outfit together. If I have a chance it would be smart to get prepared for that this weekend.

Hi Iphygenia. I too want to congratulate you on your recent weight loss. It's darn difficult to do.

I have a holiday season party to attend tonight. I'm going to wear a black and silver Vera Wang from Kohl's skirt with a black cashmere turleneck sweater. The skirt is rather shiny and the rest of the outfit is matte. I have some 4" platform suede pumps to wear with it.

Sounds chic with a festive twist (the shiny skirt). :flower:

I had a holiday party last night and did not get dressed -- didn't have time to swing by my mother's and change. It was casual, anyway. Not a cocktail dress style party. The only nod to fabulosity I had was a Hermes Vive le Vent scarf.

I'm plus size - Gap 14 - and I wear mini skirts a lot. I also wear heels if I want to. I know this is old news, but I firmly believe in wearing what I want to wear. Of course you'd never see me in tube tops or sleeveless shirts because I don't want to expose my upper body (I'm carrot shape) but mini skirts with tights and knee-high boots or shorts, count me in. Fashion is all about fun. :)

classic1908, thanks for the comps. The shiny skirt was my only nod towards the festive. It was a very subtle pattern and I'd only wear it on the bottom half of my body as my top half is larger in porportion and therefore stays matte.

To me, a beautiful scarf is the essence of fabulosity (love that word, I'm going to borrow it from you). A good scarf can lift an outfit from plain to beautiful all by itself.

Apple is kinda like a brick? I guess Id be diamond too. Except I have puffy cheeks. :P

your words are so inspiring girls :)

You know Antigone i was talking with a friend of mine the other day ( who has a wonderful style btw ) and she's the skinny type with a lot of curly hairs, and what she said really clicked on me,she said that as long as you feel comfortable and trust yourself you can wear practically everything,i guess is true

^^
Glad we could be of help.

Meanwhile, here is Marjorie in a not-so-flattering fit at the Winter Ball. If she is not pregnant, it's a no-no: she needs better corsetry.

I agree with that to a point. I think the pix of Marjorie Gubelmann, who's kind of become our patron in this thread, prove that's not always true.

But I do firmly agree that no matter how stylish and flattering something is, you won't look good in it if you're not comfortable and confident.

You know what though, it must take some damn guts to wear a dress like that surrounded by the people she's surrounded by (Marjorie) and kudos to her for that. It's not even like she's in regular society with size 0,2,4,6,8,10,12,14, etc. etc. The majority of her social outings she is surrounded by 0-2 max. And to not only be bigger than that, but plus size and still not shrink is incredibly difficult.
