The Row - The All-Things The Row Thread

^^^ I'm pretty sure that belt is Alaia but I can't see that well ....

Well most of the Apple products are functionally bad but well excuted in design terms...the amont of ipods I have had in repair! Sorry going off topic...

But yeah it's a shame if you pay a lot of money and the quailty is bad or extremely fragile...I still would like to buy one of their peices though...

So if my mother goes to the store to purchase a Royal Doulton figurine, and in the shop one of the statues is missing an arm, that means that Royal Doulton is poor quality? It has nothing to do with the fact that it's fragile and easy to break...nevermind that the details the craft on it are fantastic - if it can't withstand transmit or falling off a shelf then it's bad quality? That's poor logic.

Perhaps I read the initial post wrongly, but I thought the person said they went into the store and before they had even purchased it there was some damage...true that the item should not have been on the shelf if there was damage but nobody knows what happened in transmit. These things happen. I paid for my yamaha keyboard to be shipped to New Zealand, paid quite a lot of money in fact, and when I got it it had a key missing and the speaker mesh was smashed off, as well as some scratches and rubber missing. That doesn't make my keyboard bad quality...

Perhaps guessgirl would like to correct my interpretation of the post.

Just because something is delicate that doesn't mean it's bad quality...there's a certain luxury in delicate items. If I wash a silk garment in very hot water and damage occurs that doesn't mean the product is bad quality...

That's the only point I was trying to convey.

i thought i would love the row, but i'm afraid i don't.

couldn't believe mary kate and ashley personally showed it in the st. regis hotel. i gasped when i walked in.

MK was wearing a black jacket, a sheer t-shirt, a red lace bra, and skirt from the collection with about 20 pieces of rings/bracelets. Ashley was wearing the button down denim shirt from SS and skinny pants with Louboutins.

ashley is very very cute in person. she was wearing red ray ban wayfarers. such a sweet girl!

MK is less cute. kind of surprising.

they are really passionate about the collection and were talking about sleeping one hour the night before. i asked ashley what else she was working on, but she said this was her life 24/7.

as for the collection, i don't find that the collection is evolving as much as i thought it would. almost everything is super long and sheer. otherwise it was black black black...jackets, pants, leather pants, skirts galore.

MK was funny in that she kept mentioning benefits such as: "with these leather pants, the edges are rolled so you won't get love handles." i'm like:  "how do you know about lovehandles!?"

lol. seriously, of all people MK knows nothing about lovehandles. I have heard she look much older in person. probably from smoking marboro reds and drinking gallons of coffee.

thanks for the insider information ilovepositano any more description on the jackets?

Isn't the fact that the Row doesn't even have a website, proof enough that they are trying to control the amount of press and exposure it gets.

Surely, someone cannot say that they are using their fame - hardly anyone knows what The Row is?!

jungla_juana, i'm pretty sure that belt is the row...

i went to barneys in sf today and they have one rack with row stuff...
there was a long charcoal dress, a tank, a few long sleeve v-necks, a black blazer and some pants...

the t-shirts were really nice, but a bit sheer...
for those of you who have them, do you wear something underneath?

thanks kimair and kuba... I don't know where I could get the row accessories seeing as I'm in italy, does anyone know of anything similar to it? i'm guessing a simple black patent belt like that would be quite common... just don't know where to look!

Kimair, you can wear a nude colored bra under the white tees and it does not show in the front that you are wearing one but in the back it shows the out line of your bra...so if you do not like that I guess you have to wear those nipple pasties

sorry im sure this has been asked loads of times but where can i shop for the row in new york? barneys?

I bought a tank dress from them to wear under sheer dresses and honestly I have to say the quality isnt great. The little chain on the inside ripped and a seem is coming apart. Where they have it is the fit which is great and the fabric isnt bad.

In their defense I'll have to say that are a lot of people out there who throw away their t-shirts after a single use. Like it or not, the row is targeted at that kind of people.

I don't think even Ashley and MK throw away their clothes after one go, I see them wearing the same clothes over and over again :/

There's a lot of debate over this celeb vs. proper designer thing but personally I don't find it a problem.

I think the Olsens are designing on a different level to proper designers. I mean, The Row is an extension of their style-what is missing from their wardrobes or things they have worn over the years manufactured for people who admire their style. However, most people on this forum could probably do this-if given the resources I could probably design and create pieces that I would wear and complement my style but they would probably be based on other designers' works (e.g. a patent waist belt inspired by alaia.) I could not, for example, come up with designs like Nicholas Ghesquire does.
In this respect, I don't think the Olsens could never be true designers like Prada or Balenciaga. Not that I'm saying they're not trendsetters-obviously they are but to wear something innovative is different from creating the piece itself-you are not the one to think up of the idea, just the one to promote it. If you take the Row for what it is-a collection of clothes that are inspired by what the Olsens wear and consequently inspired by real designers then hopefully you'll find there is room for them too in this fashion design world.:flower:

Please don't make silly statements like that...

^I don't think MissP meant actually throw them away, like in the garbage. I think she was referring to more of a single use-type scenario. And based on the pricing of the shirts - less than $200 - they are meant to be bought in bulk, IMO.
