The Vegetarian & Vegan Thread

Considering recent family events, I don't even know if I'm really doing anything for Thanksgiving but my plan was just to make anything I like even if it's not traditional Thanksgiving food. I had a recipe I was considering even though I'm not sure about it.

I'm planning on cooking all today because I have to study Saturday and Sunday nonstop so I'm preparing. I got this vegan app on my phone so I'm going to try some of the recipes on there. I will post pictures of what I made when I'm done.

Iranian food is excellent vegetarian food. Delicious as well! Lots of dishes with lentils, beans, rice, eggplants and lots of spices. Yum!

I'm not vegetarian, I just don't like meat. Has nothing to do with whether I feel bad for the animals or not, I just don't like the taste of it. And I'm not very good at cooking it :D

I'm not vegetarian, but we quite often eat veggie food. I've recently cooked a pumpkin & chickpea curry (courtesy of Jamie Oliver in Sunday Mirror magazine) and even better were the carrot & coriander fritters (recipe by Nigel Slater on bbc.co.uk/food) They were so easy to make & once you have the basic recipe, there's loads of scope for your own variations.

glad i stumbled upon this thread. I've been vegetarian for 4 years, vegan on and off (i give into cheese cravings every now and again, but i always make sure its veg rennet in the cheese) i too am wondering what to make for thanksgiving. i want to make a dish of stuffing prefferably no milk (i guess i could use soymilk?). i saw a recipe for gravy posted but does anyone know a good one for stuffing? i guess its not rocket science.... just vegetable stock, bread crumbs and veggies, yeah?

also ditto to whoever it was praising SoyDelicious ice cream. i LIVE for that stuff! :)

oh I LOVE Soy Delicious too! they don't carry Blueberry Cheesecake where I live (ANYONE WANT TO SEND IT IN A FREEZER?!) which I should've tried at Whole Foods earlier this month.I love the Cherry Nirvana and Chocolate Obsession mmmmm.
I'm making yam wedges for Thanksgiving, also vegan pumpkin pie.and probably quinoa too since I won't be ever having chicken masala or sausage cherry sauce (how disgusting does that sound!?)

There's milk in your stuffing?

We do not like a soggy dressing in my family ^_^ so we toast the bread cubes in the oven. I like to mix different breads ... cornbread is yummy too.

I have been considering a vegetarian lifestyle for some time now. I feel that it would regulate my insides a bit better and give me more energy. Since I'm such a big fan of Zooey Deschanel, I heard that she is an incredibly strict vegan: obviously no meat, fish, eggs, or milk. But, she also doesn't eat glucose or have soy products. She can pretty much eat ice cubes cotton balls then.

I'm not sure why this diet even exists but since Zooey is clearly alive, she must be eating something.

I've actually done that whole vegan diet that you are mentioning.Be careful! You need to have B12 supplements.I got really weak too,and about 10 pounds underweight.Don't sacrifice health just for extreme ideals. We are human after all!

There are lots of things to eat besides those foods and lots of recipes in books and right on the internet. Also some people eliminate foods one at a time to transition into it. I stick to vegetarian myself and went from no beef and pork at first to then getting rid of other meats from the diet. But I didn't actually stop eating the first 2 because of an intention to have a vegetarian diet. I just really didn't like them and didn't want to risk mad cow disease because of a meat I've never even been that fond of anyway.

Thank you, dear. ^_^ I would love my body to be in tip-top shape and I feel that a lot can be gained from sticking to more fruits and vegetables.

I terribly miss carrots,I have braces so I can't have crunchy foods.Come February,I'll be back to my two carrots a day habit!

yeah you can definitely chew carrots with braces, tullepen! i even chewed gum when i had mine, but i was a rebel of course ;)
oddly enough..the gum never got stuck in the braces like they had warned about..hmm...

oh and fashionista-ta, definitely no milk in the stuffing...im a novice at cooking but ive now learned that is a no-no! :-)

*i just want to take this moment to let everyone know that laffy taffy has invented a new flavor "watermelon sandia", and it is absolutely divine & vegan i believe. i happen to be indulging in one at this very moment....

I don't think you can go wrong with teriyaki tofu!
& I recently tried the veggie delite at Subway. Pretty damn good.

I've only been a vegetarian for a few months now, but it's surprisingly becoming
easier and easier.

i never know what to cook tofu with or in what
Anyone have any suggestions? I was thinking maybe just fry some up with spices and then put them in salad? That's all I can think of :(

I like heartier meals though. Salads are soo lame and boring to me
