The Vegetarian & Vegan Thread

You all should try some Chinese mock meats! Bet you won't lose weight. In fact, I'm pretty sure you'll put on weight.

Can't afford a nutritionist haha...they're like, $200 a session

I eat a lot of mock meats, vegetarian chicken nuggets are really good (we have a vegetarian asian supermarket by our house) and we get the tinned ones too. Can't afford tofu as often and i'm not a huge fan but we usually have some in the freezer.

I eat eggs maybe twice a month, I hate omlettes personally but i'll use them in a burger pattie or whatnot. I have cheese a few times a week.

Yeah I'm lucky in that there's a Thai food place that has some entrees with tofu so I prefer to go there over eating a pretzel.

Anyways I was in the back room at work and saw the new Midnight Pomegranate body creams and hoped that they wouldn't have lanolin. Sure enough, they had it. I said that I was annoyed about that and one of my coworkers asked "What?" and I told her that all the body creams have lanolin and where it comes from and she was pretty grossed out.

So long story short-if you don't like wearing animal products, don't get Bath and Body Works body creams.

^ PF chang's tofu is indeed the best tofu dish i've ever had! with the brown rice it's the most perfect meal... i like it better than everything else on the menu. ^_^

I like it so much that every time I go there I have trouble trying anything else on the veggie menu...if I don't order my tofu I know I'll regret it, lol. ;)

Im a vegetarian also, but i eat honey and fish...is that bad? LOL.

BTW, i LOVE BOCA BURGERS. Anything by Boca is just DELICIOUS!

Yes, how can mock meats make you put on weight, when alot of them are 70 cals a go (Boca burgers)! Soy protein is needed for body fuel, i dont see how u can put on weight when your body is in fact burning the soy protein.

Proteins aren't used for body fuel unless you're suffering advanced starvation, they're used for creating our own proteins.

So what does the body burn?

That means you're a pescatarian, not a vegetarian. ^_^

Carbs and fat.

OK! Thanks Irene. Im not dumb, :p I was just wondering. I thought the body burned protein in all cases, not just when the body went into starvation mode. So if you eat more complex carbs, your body will burn more?

I thought the body gets its energy from a combination of carbs, protein and fat? Carbs are the most readily burned, protein provides more sustained energy...dunno about how fat is used. I've read from many sources that it's best to include a bit of each in every meal (I emphasize healthy unsaturated fats such as olive oil) or at least to spread them out throughout the day.

Slightly unrelated but bananas are like a magical food, they give me energy for so long. I don't know how they do it. :)

It really is, even though it is extremely sugary (probably why its gives its consumer so much energy) I eat one every morning, and im good until dinner. And thats the truth!

OK well, im a pescatarian. Someone already told me that. Thanks for reiterating it though.

I've really been getting into chewing raw coconut lately. Just buy a ripened husk from the supermarket for a dollar...its a week of chewy goodness! Of course the neighbours don't appreciate the smashed coconut shards outside....or the streams of ants feasting on the tainted milk..but its so worth it

^ misssakura, i really like coquito nuts - they're like baby coconuts. they're not too cheap (or at least i haven't found a cheap source - perhaps they could be ordered?) but are tender and you can eat them shell and all. they're very small - i just smash them with a heavy book since they don't contain milk. :innocent: much less mess than dealing with a whole coconut. ^_^

Miss Sakura, at a famous Zen vegan restaurant here I had raw coconut sashimi...raw coconut slices you dip in soysauce and wasabi...it was a dream....mmmm:heart:

coquito nuts sound so good...
