"Rude" doesn't even begin to cover that.:angry:

It is incredibly rude and very presumptuous. Of course I take it with a pinch of salt because in this instance, there is no question that they are in the wrong for publishing an unrelated and sensationalist article. Imagine how horrified they would be if it turned out I was the Prime Minister or a member of the Cabinet - maybe a local MP or a dedicated research scientist.

They should have replied with something along the lines of:
"I am sorry that you feel this article is irrelevant to the controversy regarding soy. However we believe that the article is appropriate"...and then continue to list evidence and reasoning for including the article.

Perhaps I've been studying Japanese culture for too long but I believe that basic respect should be assumed until proven that respect is not deserved. It's a pity that so many people have no manners. :innocent:

ON a separate note, popcorn with lots of savoury yeast on it is so tasty :flower:

I totally agree! And even when it's not deserved...for our own dignity. ;)

Savoury yeast is something I often read about but have never encountered...do you know if it's available in Japan?

Yesterday I made a delicious cream of broccoli soup. Boiled broccoli, sauteed onions, and boiled potatoes, thrown in the blender with soy milk. Then simmer in pot with veggie stock cube, sage and thyme. (I added milk, cream and a dash of parmesan but if you are vegan it should still be fine without.) The herbs made it amazing, and it was even better chilled and topped with freshly ground pepper. MMMMM!! :chef:

I don't know if it's available in Japan, but maybe you could import it? I don't know. Maybe you could import from New Zealand? Healtheries make a really good savoury yeast.

Brocolli is great, I love it with mashed potatoes.

btw, stonyfield yogurt is not vegan.. they use milk cultures in their yogurt instead of soy cultures. I prefer silk yogurt.. the blueberry is heavenly! of course, silk is owned by the biggest dairy producer and distrubutor in the world, so that's a bit off putting as well...

I've been a vegetarian off and on since I was about six and I haven't touched meat for yeeeaaaars. But I've been craving it like crazy lately. Could this be due to a lack of protein?

Sounds like it to me. Whenever I need protein or iron, I crave meat.

I wish Disneyland would have more meat free options. I'm visiting next month and will be sad over not being able to eat the Mickey Mouse shaped chicken nuggets. :(

^ You would think that Disney would be more animal friendly. After all, half of their characters are animals! How do you explain to your kid that you are eating the cousin of Donald Duck?

Get some high protein nut butters, have large portions of organic quinoa and get some chickpea patties, stat! Maybe start drinking some (Yes I'm going to say it) spirulina :)

^ I don't know much about spirulina. Is it really that beneficial? Hmmm....guess I will have to do a search. ;)

^ I used to take their tablets & it gave me alot more energy! I should really get some more! Thanks for reminding me about them

It's just a natural highly concentrated protein basically. I drink it with apple juice because it makes the spirulina taste fine, but I'm not sure if that changes the effect of the spirulina...no idea.

^ It shouldn't I don't think. I guess everything mixes itself together in your tummy anyway

In any case, soy should not have been fed to the infant. Even the consumption of soy by pregnant women is deterred.

I've read lots of soy can mess with your thyroid, but I'm not sure how serious of a risk it is.

Anyone else have thoughts on the benefits/dangers of soy? It's hard to know what opinion to have about it since the research goes back and forth.:glare:

Hah, I was at Sea World in San Diego last summer, and they really seemed to play up the fact they were raising money/awareness to save the fish, ocean, environment, etc. They didn't even serve soda fountain caps because apparently fish have been caught in them, yet there was not a vegetarian item on the menu! And over half the menu contained fish.

My uncle is a professor and develops soy based products for many big companies, so I frequently pick his brain about this. In summary, there are still competing theories about the harmful effects. He is a HUGE believer in the benefits of soy, however, and has been studying this for over a decade. He has me and my mother take soy protein powder he developed for our health because we both have an autoimmune disorder. When I take it regularly, I experience less pain. But this is my experience, I cannot tell everyone that it is without side effects because this is still up for debate. :flower:
