Speaking of seeing such unsavoury places, where I am, there's a factory known as 'the burnhouse'. Whenever you pass the general area, there's a smell in the air, and some people imagine it's the smell of things being melted down to make glue, even though it's not a burning smell.
When I was a young teen, my friend's father worked there, and one day he brought us with him when he had to call in, so we saw what lay behind the entrance. First of all, the road leading up to the main part of the place was piled high on either side with ribcages and bones waiting to be stripped of the last remnants of flesh, and in front of us, there was a small swimming-pool sized pit full of animal offal - huge corkscrew intestines and brains and sloppy livers - and from what I remember, the smell was the evaporating tissue fluid from these organs.
And what traumatised me for ages afterwards was that there was nothing to stop anyone from falling into that pit. No rails, no steps, nothing. Probably nothing would happen if you fell in - but the idea of it. And there were warehouses beside it, who knows what was in them.
The factory was the stage after the slaughterhouse - a renderer.

I quite liked that thread as well ...
A regular rollercoaster ride of No she didn't
Yes she did
Isn't it weird how it works out like that?
) I think you can about the exact same nutrients, vitamins, minerals, etc. from vegetables and fruits and the like as you can from meats.
Like, my friend Miles tells me, "Guess you can't have Chipotle anymore." It is unfortunate that I won't be able to enjoy their burritos anymore, but I don't feel upset over it at all.
What can I say so that being a vegan doesn't sound so negative?
So I asked the woman to make me something from scratch, which worked out well because I got fresh food that hadn't been sitting in a display cabinet all morning!
