'Furious' Dannii Minogue left out in the cold as X Factor bosses make seat move permanent
The X Factor reshuffle that saw Dannii Minogue shunted to the end of the judging panel on Saturday night has been made permanent, it emerged today.
The Australian singer, 38, was furious after she was given just five minutes' notice by producers on the ITV talent contest that she had to swap seats with Louis Walsh. Despite making it clear to her bosses that she was unhappy with the move after the show finished, she is expected to remain in the spot for the rest of the series.
Miss Minogue had originally been placed in the plum spot – next to Simon Cowell – when she first joined the X Factor in 2007. Then, when Cheryl Cole, 26, joined the show last year, the pop princess was given that seat and Miss Minogue was moved to the middle of the panel.
Sources on the show revealed this latest move was 'very upsetting' for Miss Minogue, as one said: 'Dannii was only told five minutes before the judges were due on set as the producers didn’t want a row, so she was furious.
'The situation is that the producers like the banter between Simon and Louis and wanted to move Louis up the panel. He livens things up, whereas having Cheryl and Dannii sitting together was getting a bit dull. But they also felt that Dannii and Simon give the most constructive comments on the show, so they would make good bookends, so Dannii is also somewhat a victim of her own success.'
The judges do occasionally move seats during the early auditions but positions are usually fixed for the live shows.
A source close to Miss Minogue said: 'Danni has been upset and did complain to the bosses after the show that she thought it was an undignified way to behave to break the news just before she went on air, but everyone is telling her that she should not take it so personally.'
When Mrs Cole joined the programme last year, the Girls Aloud star was hailed for her fashion excellence and dominated the series. Miss Minogue had confessed she was upset at being moved away from Mr Cowell in the 2008 series, saying: 'He moved me away from him and now sits next to Cheryl and is in her ear all the time. It is a snub but I'm fine.'
