It had come from the estate of a woman and her son had no idea what Chanel was, and the owner of the shop had no idea either. In fact, she said the only reason she priced it "so high" was because the leather and strap were so high quality.
Chanel doesn't authenticate (I don't think) but every guide I've read seems to confirm that it is indeed authentic. It's the quilted lambskin, black, with the double C's on the front and gold chain strap with the black leather woven through.
