Tips on Bag Cleaning and Maintenance

I've this suede bag with yellow suede handles that have turned blackish with use. Anyone knows what I use to clean the handles?

i got some bluish tint on my ivory cotton canvas bag because my new jeans rubbed off onto the bag! acccck!!! how do i clean that?

Here's what I did when a similar thing happened:

-Dilute some oxi-clean powder at about half the suggested strength (and increase strength if necessary). You can find oxi-clean or similar products at the household cleaner isle - the ones specifically formulated for garments are better.

-Dab solution on affected areas with a towel, rub gently on more severe/stubborn cases.

-Damp another towel with clean water and wipe the area, repeat until you can no longer smell the cleaning solution on the canvas.

Repeat as necessary. Usually with denim stains a couple of tries should be sufficient. Good luck!

I was wondering if anyone knows anything about apple guard vs. vectra? I just ran out of apple guard and want to get more, but I dont know if I should opt for vectra instead?

Can anyone advice me on how to clean my white and cream tweed Chanel bags?

White Leather-Stains from Conditioner?!

I recently used a conditioning leather wipe to clean my white bag...but now it looks like there are all these stains...Does it just need to dry, or is my bag ruined? How long does it even take leather to dry? I only did it an hour ago, so I am hoping...:(

did you test it on some part before you did the whole thing?? what type of conditioner did you use and on what type of leather?

it doesn't take that long for leather to dry and even if it is still in the process of drying, if the spots are only caused by wetness they should be fading. jun asked the right questions, which should give an idea of what the problem is. speaking of white bags, my son splashed tomato sauce on my white balenciaga and I used a diaper wipe to blot the spots (because it was the only thing I had) and it worked! there's not one sign of a stain. phew.

Wow! That's good to know, lilygirl. I've always got diaper wipes handy. They work great for a lot of stains.

What are you ladies in the UK using as leather protectant? I don't think Apple is available over here and I can't seem to locate Vectra. Thanks in advance.

^I'm wondering about pretty much the same. Does anyone in Europe know of someplace to get Apple Guard or Vectra or something similar, and where they don't charge $30 for shipping? (it just seems so wrong to pay several times more for shipping than the value of the actual product)

Also, I haven't read through this thread, and I'm wondering if there is concensus about what product works best for a lambskin Chanel bag?
I'm also considering a suede Chanel bag (if I can locate it) and I'm wondering what you'd recommend for it? I don't really treat my bags, but I do treat my shoes. Could I use the same thing on the bag as I do my shoes?
And what about canvas bags, how should I keep them clean? I usually tire of a bag before it shows much sign of wear, so it's really never been an issue, but you wonderful bag people inspire me to take better care of my bags :flower:

Keya, are you in London too? Anyone else? Maybe we can coordinate to buy a few bottles and split the shipping cost?

I'm not in London :(
Maybe they'll have it at the leatherware shop? I can ask the next time I walk by. I'll also check out the stuff I use on my boots and see what it says.

hi,
anyone could tell me where to get the Apple Garde products?
What is theyre website? I need to spray all my bags after reading this thread! hehe!
I never spray them, and everytime when its raining, I always protect my bag more then me. My husband used to say to me ''what the hell is going on with you? you are not using the umbrella, but you covering your purse!''hehhehe Now he understand that his wife always bring umbrella just to protect the purse more then herself!

Water spots on handbag

I was caught in the rain yesterday and unfortunately had my LV Alma handbag with me. Now the bottom has water stains. It looks like some parts of the leather have a darker patina while other parts are lighter. Is there anyway I can make the color even again?

I read in the paddington thread that the leather tightens up as the water evaporates, so therefor the color in that area is more concentrated appearing to be darker. Try gently pulling at the sides to "un tighten" the leather.

May or may not work, but it's worth a try! Good luck with the stains :flower:

Oh no! :( You poor thing! Water stains from the rain is like my greatest bag fear! Goodluck trying to get it off! Sometimes it's even worth taking it back to the store and asking for advice because they might sell cleaning products specially for your LV. Luck! :D

Once I bought a beautifylly simple Prada bag made of the softest nappa imaginable. Gorgeous, tactile, smooth... But when I got caught in the rain it did stain.

I solved it by polishing a lot with a very soft cloth. The surface got raised where water hit. I solved it permanently by giving the surface a light coating of polish for practicality... It lost its velvety surface, but it got infinitely more durable...
