Tips on Bag Cleaning and Maintenance

I'm expecting a 2-year-old leather bag from eBay soon.. Do you guys have tips on how to restore the leather to good condition again?

I've actually tried Apple product on my Balenciaga, but it made it it kind of dull. Is there anything that works similar to shoe polish, but for bags? I'm looking for something to make it glossy. Thanks!!!

use the AG rain repellant to get the shine.

I read the whole thread and didn't see an answer to my question, so...

I bought a vintage red leather Bottega Veneta handbag some years ago and whenever I wear it, the red dye transfers onto my clothes. Is there something I can do to prevent that?

AG care is awesome

I just spent the past hour conditioning my chloe silverado with AG, and it looks prestine.

I have a new Celine Clandestine in the powder colour (very pale pink/nude), made out of fine calf leather. It is the lightest bag I own. Every time I look at it I wonder how long it will take before I get a stain on it.

Should I use Apple Garde on it, or something else, or nothing?

Thanks!

I wore mynew white bag last week and the dye from myjeans transferred onto the leather... the Apple cleaner worked EXCELLENT-ly :smile:unsure: sp?)

Help!!

I hope somebody can help me here~
I found an old bag, it was my mother's but as you can see on the photo there is some strange pink dirt on it. I tried to clean it with vinegar, simple soap, washing powder, even with cif cleaning gel, but none of these helps.. Oh and it's not real leather but the bag looks absolutely adorable and cute, i would love to carry it in the future. ^_^ Do you know anything that works on fake leather and old dirt? Thank you!! :flower:

Truffles, by conditioner AG lotion do you mean the one that says leather cleaner for $5.00? i got my shoes soaked in the rain and from buttery soft and bright red leather with shine they turned into a darker color and the leather now feels stiff and rough, they are brand new and i am so upset i could cry.

Have you tried rubbing alcohol? Dip a cotton swab into the rubbing alcohol and gently apply it to a small area of the bag just to test it out first - don't rub! It has worked on some of my bags, but they were leather... Otherwise, you could try white shoe polish. Good luck!:flower:

I was thinking of white shoe polish too! Thank you so much for the rubbing alcohol tip!! :flower:

Well, it turned out nothing helps, so my dad -as the last option- painted the spots white.. It looks nice! ^_^

My gorgeous boyfriend has bought me the new Gucci suede handbags (in PINK!) for my birthdya. I love it to bits but I am too scared to take it out as I dont want any water to get on it!

What can I use on it to protect it?
Scotchguard?? How often would I need to scotchguard the bag?

I am a bit disappointed with Gucci After Sales. I rang them up to enquire on how best to protect this bag but they couldnt help me at all.

For all you ladies who have loose stitches on your bags... or snapped thread frmo a stitch... I did this 2 days ago to fix my bag.

Pull the loose thread out so that you have as much slack as possible... thread a needle with the loose thread... if the thread is fraying, take a bit of rubber cement, rub it between your fingers and "roll" the thread between your fingers , this should fix the frayed thread....

so yea, thread the needle... give the whole thread another coat of cement... and poke your needle into the pierced hole in the leather where the thread USED to be.... don't be scared to pierce the lining with yoru needle as most linings are fabric.... you should see the end of your thread coming thorugh the lining if you ddi it right. Now, pull the lining away from the inside of the bag, and the thread should be safely (cause you secured it with glue) between the lining material and the leather of your bag.

Hope that wasn't too complicated. but i know some of you must've encountered a loose stitch on a bag or two.

Try calling again and hopefully a different person will be able to help you. In general, I find Gucci salespeople the most unpleasant. Another suggestion would be for your to call a department store that carries Gucci and ask the person at the Gucci counter. Final suggestion: call a leather goods store (that sells leather pants, suede clothes, etc.) and ask them how to treat colored suede. Good luck! :flower:

Does anyone know how to remove smells from bags? I found this LV Epi Leather Pochette and the interior has a pretty strong musky smell, which could be mold (although I don't see any mold). The interior is that traditional LV Alcantara Suede/Textile. TIA! :flower:
