Tips on Posing / Looking Your Best in Photos

i dont pose .. thats why i always look terible .. and i never seem to smile lol im the most unphotogenice person ever i think

Chin down works for me - I have a very square jaw and it makes my face look slightly less angular. It's tricky though, if I point my chin down too much then the flash catches my high forehead! Plus my eyes look Ashley Olsen-freaky big like so , but that's a small price to pay for masking my man-jaw

I know some people say smile, look happy etc in photos, but then my eyes go all squinty and my chin looks like somebody slipped a golf ball under the skin. I'm doomed to look like a moody cow in photos for all eternity

wow..cool thread, these advices were really useful for me.
i have a round face with fuller cheecks & when i smile with teeth like when u say cheese, my cheecks & chin look fat, any advice?

i never like how i look in pics, even people around me say i look great in real but horrible in pics:lol:
which is...... absolutely true, i only look better when i dont notice the pic is being taken:doh:.....; i dont know how to look better i think i will install myself in front of the mirror till i work something out:innocent:

Photogenetic-ness... can it be learned?

Do you think people can learn to be more photogenetic, or is it something that some are born with and others just aren't?

I feel like I look bad in 90% of photos... how can I become more photogenetic?

(Sorry if this is in the wrong forum - I didn't know where to put it.)

a good question...

i somehow manage to look absolutely different on my photos... i know that you can improve it by posing in a specific way or look in a certain direction... but i don't know enough about it to advice...

#1 Dont feel bad if you're hopeless and dont look all that in photos ... tell me .. wudnt you be pleasantly surprised if you see a photo of a person but when you meet the person you see him/her even more beautiful?
#2 About the pose ... I do 3/4 of my face and chin down thing

I am new here and just have to say that this thread is really good! Thanks for all the tips :)

We sound very similar. :flower:

In photographs I try to keep my chin down... I suck in my cheeks a bit... (as well as my stomach, for a body shot)... and squint my eyes slightly. I don't do this in EVERY photo, sometimes you just don't think of it or care to be perfect-looking in a photo. But when I want to look especially nice, I follow the above tips. They seem to work.

It also helps to have a mirror... if you can get by with that. I always want a bit of gloss on, and my hair must be damn near-perfect. ;) Again, if the time (and place) allows for it all.

You can learn how to become more photogenic.
Some tips.

If you have a long nose dont drop your chin or it will elongate your nose.

Shoulders back dont pull your arms close to your body or you get that fat upper arm thing.

The person in a group of lets say 4, who is standing closest to the camera will look bigger than the rest so dont rush..be comfortable with where you are standing.

Dont give a full smile or you get gummy teeth and chubby cheeks..give a 90% smile so you still keep some grace.

When smiling dont throw your head back because you will see a double chin.

BE YOURSELF and dont pout unless you are pouty or you WILL LOOK A FOOL!

How to look good in a Photo?

How to avoid look bad (or too different from your daily life) in a photo for document or grad?!?!

Using myself as an example, everytime i take formal photo (esp school picture) or anything involve flash, i look horrible.

And how to select makeup colour for a photo?

 Help!

I agree, I look horrible too.. It always looks like I am wearing no makeup..

i am still trying to master the art of photogenic-ness. it's quite annoying because i don't think i'm that unattractive ( :innocent: ) but in photos i look horrible. it makes me wonder if i'm the only one who sees myself a certain way..

I agree. I know celebs must get taught how to pose properly and smile a certain way but no matter how often i look in the mirror i cannot get it right myself. I wish there was some sort of guidebook. I just don't photograph well.

ive always believed that contouring the cheekbones is key to looking photogenic in a photo

i always look best if i look halfway over my shoulder with the body twisted sideways
...hope you understand what i mean ;)

I usually think I look better when I tilt my chin down a tiny bit and then angle one cheek more into the camera than the other. In other words turn my head just a bit to he side but still looking at the camera. If i am facing the camera full on a smiling I think my face looks too spread out and fat. My face spreads out when I smile so tilting it a touch down and to the side shows that I actually do have cheekbones. Unlike the roundness when I am looking straght on.
