Tom Ford F/W 14.15 London

^OMG!
He's like the old uncle trying to keep it cool with stupid jokes for the young relatives. He tries so hard to be cool, but I'm sorry Tom, you are not!

This is Tom Ford i've been waiting for. Finally I mean he could do so much better clothes with classy touched.

This is more the Tom Ford I like, not the screaming previous collection. But he went a bit too far on the other side. Therefore it borders at boring. I'm missing the sumptuousness.

I don't like this collection at all. He has taken the worst from 90s and heavily overused it. There may be a few fine looks but overall it looks really tacky.

It is a mistake that Tom Ford has come back. I am curious about the financial situations of his company...

Laughable and sad at the same time. He should have never come back.

It will never cease to amuse me that the same exact criticisms are lobbed at his collections no matter how wildly different they all are. This looks and feels nothing like his first few collections and yet the generic critiques of it haven't changed at all.

Then again I suppose my definition of dated and ugly doesn't usually include black wool tailoring and plain tunic dresses.

I sort of agree with you. I feel like everyone is so obsessed with "edgy" collections, that anything even remotely conventional has no chance. While Tom Ford's collection have been different from another, he doesn't do fur slippers or underpants on your head, etc, and therefore, that's boring. I don't know if it's always been like this with fashion, but people LOVE bizarro collections. That's why Marc Jacobs and Miuccia Prada have been able to attain the kind of clout they have.

I think it all goes back to the rise of internet and "democratization" of fashion. Everyone's a special snowflake these days. Everyone gets a platform to express him/herself. Everyone gets a personal gender-specific pronoun. Everyone is a pseudo-intellectual. Everyone's style is more 'unique' than the next person's. For all her sexiness, a Tom Ford woman is understated. His clothes don't naturally lend themselves to different shades of gray.

Tom Ford clearly has a POV, and for better or worse, he's not been willing to change. His aesthetic was 'in' in the late 90s, early 00s, but fashion crowds have moved on. And while his collections may have been varied, their aesthetic remains the same, imo. It would indeed be interesting to know how his sales are, because I'd imagine there is still a market for it, it just isn't at the forefront of fashion right now.

Well it's not as gaudy as his last few collections, which were OTT and largely ugly, imo. But it's almost too extreme of an about-face. This is very pared down for him.

There are a couple of nice jackets- the short one with the stand-up collar, as in pic #1.

I love Stella, but that last look is sadly unflattering. :(

^^You can do conventional clothes one million times better than this. This collection looks poorly executed (the hemlines are atrocious, the lining of some fur coats is awful, as is the fitting of some pants -look at Iris' back-). Everything looks cheap even if it's made according to the highest quality standards, which is even more ridiculous.

This lacks strength, it does feel dated, like the attempt of an old glory whose time has already passed by... Plus, he's trying to be hip and ironical at times (those ‘molly’ dresses), and it just doesn't work. I think all of this materializes in the casting: nothing makes sense.

Notice, I didn't say anything about this particular collection. I was talking about Tom Ford in general. I do think this is probably his weakest collection since he's been back, for all the reasons you mentioned.

He is doing very well, his menswear and fragrances, beauty products sell.

His womenswear IMO, is a mess.It hurts me to say it but it is.

A lackluster collection, the silhouettes look so dated and the fit and tailoring is just sloppy.

I heard his man's wear line is sort of like a licensing deal, just like his beauty/fragrance products are actually made by Estee Lauder group?

His women's line is def horrible, nothing groundbreaking, the only memorable stuff for me is the dress worn by Paltrow for Oscar.

Yes Zegna does his suiting,Estee does the Beauty.

He has made a tonne of dough from his eyeglasses, cosmetics, fragrances and his big lapelled suits, which are a staple now for rich men.

My how the mighty have fallen. It could be worse but this is pretty bad... oddly I've always had a soft spot for TF, I hope he can recapture the magic.

His partnership with Zegna isn't a license, it's a distribution/manufacturing of the collection, the collection is designed in house by Tom and his team, unlike other licensing deals such as ones we've seen with McQ which has now returned back to Alexander McQueen but was a normal licensing deal, in comparison.

Marcolin hold the license for the eyewear and Estee Lauder over the beauty.

His collections are strong and stick to the DNA of the brand, his pieces sit well within the DNA of the brand but sit better on their own than during the styling of the shows, much more dressed down, I think to understand a brand like his you have to have an understanding of what he is achieving, not just 'this is the worst' there is an aesthetic, a theme, an inspiration behind the choice to make this such a simplistic collection.

I mean...sequins jersey dresses, molly?
