Top Trends For S/S 04

I think due to the war and the state of the world , designers are trying to give a more hopeful positive view of the world. This translates in not very feminin clothes. There is still a 80's style runing threw many collections. Here are a few trends to watch out for.

Main 'mood' is happiness and escapism,
an atmosphere that goes well into winter '04-05
and will be around until at least spring ss05.

Auster minimalistic looks, dark distress, slutt-chic and aggressiveness
seem to be fading for now. There is too much stress, insecurity and
'darkness' in real world, fashion -as usual- is making a socio-political statement.

fresh looks modern, uplifting and playful.
optimism seems to be the key

Biker jackets, graphics, patchwork and patterns - no fashion revlotion that is!

I think the most important trend are the floaty, pretty, light shades of white, grey, pink, blue, green etc. A big step from all the neons (thank god!) from this past season.

Don't forget safe retro, I think that's also a very important aspect. We long for the good old days. I think that's one of the reasons why Prada are doing so well (and have for years and years); their style is essentially very conservative and appeals to our want for safety, I guess?

I don't know, I haven't really given this a lot of thought...

deffinetly agree about

It reminds me alot of after world war 2 and how the "new look" developed becuas of the need for fantasy

good points there, "escapism" includes retro tott*,
but i dont think of 'safe' retro from what i've seen so far.
70's-'80's was safe retro, now we see a departure
towards a mix of retro elements with modern cut
(colours from the 20's, graphics from the 30's,
prints from 20's, 30's and 50's) that is quite daring
for the mainstream market.

i'm positive that fashion mood is heading to a new
attitude/direction space*, maybe not as 'huge' as
the 'new look' but still, something new is positively
on its way. i think designers are back on their
design board, a bit of this and a bit of that is not
enough anymore. even big luxury labels seem to
get the message of concentrating more on their
collections than before. consumers are getting seriously
bored of repetitious collections and lack of creativity.
a small 'brand revolution' is already on the works
-at least in europe. More budgets go towards new creative
designers, consumers are in a 'discovery' mood.

Not for me. B) I think real style is sticking to what works for you, regardless of what is 'in' for that season. However, I am looking to freshen up my wardrobe this coming Spring. I really enjoyed what Maria Cornejo did with red in her S/S 2004 collection. I'm also looking forward to seeing what Helmut and Rei do for the Spring season.
