I'll be visiting Sao Paulo for the fashion week this month. I'll be spending time with fashionista locals so I guess that I"ll be taken good care of.. Can anyone give any insider's tips about where to go, what to see?

I'm not from SP - I'm from Rio de Janeiro - but I know a couple of places you could go. There's a multi-brand store named Daslu which carries almost every high fashion brand. There's also a neighbourhood famous for its stores, but I forgot the name. I'll check that for you.

Thanks so much Nemova! I'll also visit Rio for 3 days if I can spare some time. Recommended Hotel Portinari, Rio Sul, Barra Shopping.. and I really want to see the new Forum store.. What else do you have in mind?

I think Rio Sul and Barrashopping are great options, you should try Ipanema too, it's the best neighbourhood in the city to buy big brands.

BTW, are you going to attend any shows in São Paulo and Rio? I know Gisele is going to be in Fashion Rio for the first time, she'll walk for Cori.

I'll be attending most of the SPFW shows I guess. I heard Gisele was also coming to SP.. When do the Rio shows start?

I think it's January 11th, but I have to check. You're so lucky, I could never even imagine myself going to one of those shows.

..

unfortunately, lax-gru is more within my budget but if gol linhas behave, I should be stopping for quality coxinhas in rio for a few days. :p

I've been trying to make my own coxinhas, by the way. naturally, it's not coming .. and local Brazilian restaurants don't do salgadinhos, just churrasco, so frustrating, I guess I'll keep fooling myself with insipid chicken-filled potatoe balls until I make it back to Brazil. meh.

I think my grandmother makes them without potato

nevermind the potato part :ninja:.. when I first tried coxinhas, I was totally convinced it was mashed potato (the KFC kind as it's pretty soft), I looked up for the recipe and was surprised to see it was some kind of dough and pretty disappointed since it's more complicated to make so, in the meantime, just to kill my cravings, I used boxed mashed potatoes. pathetic, I know, don't judge me, please.

The hardest part for me about coxinhas is to shape them with your hands, I remembered I used to help my grandmother, mine were the uggliest ones -_-

does your grandma make them with that drumstick shape? I can barely make balls, and quite small otherwise they fall apart.. maybe I should just stop calling coxinhas that weird thing I do with potatoes, I know.

She makes perfect ones, like this:

She has good hands! Damn you're making me want to crave one right now :judge:

Ed Motta is nice too, he has a strong, powerful voice. I also like Djavan.

Have you listened to Tchubaruba?

And I think my grandmother makes them without potato

As far as I know coxinha aren't made with potato :unsure:I think that you're not succeding making coxinha because I think there isn't Maizena soup in USA, and it's one of the necessary ingredients ^_^
