Good fashion resources?

Where can I find a website that is definitive from the late 60's to the mid 80's? I need someinfo with a lot of good pictures and a variety of styles, I have an absolutely KILLER art porject I want to start.

I had a similar project a year ago- i used www.fashion-era.com, www.costumegallery.com and http://www.costumes.org/history/100pages/costhistpage.htm. If i didn't find the pics satisfying enough, i would do a google image search for more specific images-eg.poodle skirts.
Hope you find them usefull.

the best fashion resources is the STREET! just look at what the people are wearing and you can get the sense of the style. it's the best better than the mags. lol.

Anyways, I was searching the forum for a thread on trends and styles of the past decades, ex. 60s, 70s, etc. but I could not find anything. I was reading the Beatnik thread and there was some talk of boho and beatnik trends in the 60s and how it differed from modern day bohemian and I became interested in the specifics. If anyone has pictures of different eras and time periods and their fashion feel free to post!

the 60's beatnik look was actually all over the catwalk. Boho nowadays is often done strangely (in my opinion) with overwhelming wannabe-hippie prints and patterns, often large an loose on the body as well. But I do like the 60's beatnik look, its more modern and polished. Heres an article I found;

Sixties style focuses on black and white. It is a sharp graphic monochrome noughties version of the Beatnik Look. Black is a used in a 60’s graphic pop art way contrasted sharply against white so that it zings New Mod.
This will be a big young look and has been taken up by a lot of manufacturers. Selfridges will patronise the black and white op art influenced sixties look and are devoting a great deal of floor space to it.
Primarily aimed at the 15-25 age group this Beatnik look pays homage not just to the sixties, but also to the finer points of 50s rock, Goth and Punk fashions. Think black and white and slightly space age - a total refreshing contrast to many other looks this year.
Note lots of traditional checks and tartans in black and white - don't be surprised when older women adopt certain elements such as the smart checks teamed with black.

I would like to say though, that I don't think Edie Sedgwick was the "Beatnik" icon, the one who embodied it. She did do the style very well, but I wouldn't count her as a huge Beatnik icon, I think she did get ideas from other things too, like Mod etc, just as the article stated.

For the original Beatnik-style, I'd look at pictures of the people who in the beginning started the trend --- the writers, poets and musicians. There's a great thread here in tFS about them, I'll post a link if I can find it.

I think the "Beatnik" style that's promoted to young people these days is a mix of 60s fashion, minus the hippie-look though. There's a huge impact of Mod in there, and the newer genres like Goths.

Now I realise that I have just said the same things that were in that article...silly me.

thanks! im new here, this is totally awsome. More recently Ive started to follow my own style. What I like to wear rather than just what everyone else likes to wear. I used to just not really care and wore sweats and comfy clothing but always had a love for fashion. Im getting cat eye glasses soon, hahaha because i love the 50's so much. Its hard because in a school of kids who all wear the same thing, I get a little afraid to wear what i really want to sometimes. I guess I just have to be brave and work it. Any tips from transitioning to a new sense of style without being too obvious about it?

I'm with you 100% . There are so many things I would like to wear but I'm sure everybody would stare if I would...I don't go with trends and like to dress exactly how I feel comfortable, but the other people usually don't understand...Except for this community!

Any tips...well, since I'm myself trying to develop my style, I can't say anything groundbreaking, but I'd suggest you just wear what you like. Don't care about people who might give you strange looks for it, just go with your style, because you've got it girl! You're not one of the clones judging you.

Just wear what you like and feel proud about it, I'm trying to do that too.
