It's official: I'm over "peek-a-boo" collections. Okay, we get it. You know how to do cut-outs. Moving on.

Spring 2009 is turning out to be a rehash of the WRONG parts of 2008 all over again. The only good thing coming out of it so far is the renewed interest in streamlined sporty looks and clean athleticism.

Open toe boots? Haven't seen them here in London...but I have to say: they're outrageous. Terrible. What about crocs? I hate crocs too!!! Don't know what I hate more...

open toe boots are hot! i love them

edit: eh well the ones I was talking about are the ones like these

I would probably wear Crocs as opposed to open-toe boots if I were a femme. That's if I had to choose between these two.

^ you would rather wear crocs than those givenchy's or the ones posted on the page before?

I wouldn't even want to be seen dead in crocs. And I really like open toe boots and booties especially this seasons's Givenchys.

A&F, Hollister and all those types of stores
UGGS - I know it's been said a million times, but reallly. What is it, like 5 years now? 6?
Destroyed jeans - it makes you look like a slob.
Skinny jeans - really overworked. Jeans wise, I say stick to indigo bootcut.
Looooooong hair ... it isn't terribly complimentary, and I think it makes you look unkept (unkempt?? sp??) I guess I'm saying anything that's 60's or Boho-ish ...

Oh, also I should add; overplucked eyebrows.
I reallllllly think the fuller look is far more sophisticated and balances our your face much more beautifully.

Latex leggings as pants and too much American Apparel.

It's sort of a guilty pleasure at the same time though.

Sure. Might as well. Those Givenchy whatevers have to be a nominee of "Worst Shoes of 2008" alnog with all or most of the hybrid shoes from the Hybrid Shoes thread.

Fall is officially here. This means that boots will become more popular in colder weather. But with one of my most hated trends (as far as to look stylish), it means that tucking boots into jeans is a trend that I wish would go away like what I initially thought of when I first saw leggings under denim mini skirts. This trend isn't going anywhere (to my dismay) as "The View" (which I saw for the first time back on Tuesday) had one femme wearing skinny jeans with the legs tucked into a cute pair of riding boots.

Let me state something for a moment. I don't hate the boots. I don't hate the jeans. I just don't like combining the two and tucking them in. Perhaps it's because I don't live in a city where piles of snow or extremely wet and miserable walking conditions don't take form in colder times. Tucking stirrup pants into boots is VERY fine with me (because we don't have to see the early 1990's embarassment known as stirrup pants). Tucking leggings into boots is fine with me.

Speaking of leggings, allow me to get to a trend I'm hoping doesn't take flight for real. It took me a while to get over leggings under skirts (especially denim mini skirts). But nowadays, the leggings-under-(bottom) trend has gone to shorts. I've disliked leggings under skirts until I eventually got over it. Well now, it's footless leggings under shorts that has me thinking "fashion victim!" each time I see someone pair footless leggings or footless tights with shorts. I know fashion can be more versatile for femmes than hommes. However, I hate it when a style I don't like is being applied in other different ways. It provides difference in style, but it doesn't mean it's better. I loathe the idea of leggings under shorts for males or females (I think the trend is stupid for males). The only exception for tights under shorts are very tall tights covered up by the legs of shorts. For example, pairing tall tights under walking shorts. I'd prefer opaque tights with appropriate shoes or boots if I were a lady. But if you're using the same length leggings under mini skirts and trying to wear them with your favorite pair of shorts, congratulations- you've transferred one terrible look to a look that's even more terrible. Thankfully, I haven't seen too many femmes (or especially hommes) in person pairing shorts with leggings. Almost a cheap excuse to want to wear a mini skirt or shorts just to pair them with leggings. I'm still trying to get over leggings under mini skirts, now my "rehab" begins with leggings under shorts.

Finally... those boots in Post #6,284... one of the all-time worst boots I've ever seen. I've seen rain boots that look better than those hideous abominations. Those boots were made to be tossed into a trash incinerator (along with those open-toe abominations from Gucci in the open-toe boots thread I attacked. The boots from Post #6284 are terrible. There's no defending them. If you want to wear flip-flop/thong sandals, wear a proper pair of thong sandals. If you want to wear boots, wear proper boots. If you can't decide on wearing one or the other, avoid those [Post #6,284] boots at all costs! It's that simple. Why must some designers try so hard to combine the best of various shoe and sandal types into making terrible footwear? Some things are better left by themselves and not as some freakish hybrid.

I wear leggings under skirts and shorts. My reason? I hate my legs, and the only thing I can do is try and make them look the best they can and leggings help. I do feel slightly common, but really, it's just an easy fashion option for hundreds of girls who can't be bothered to dress up every day. Of course I get sick of it, I get sick of posh indie girls with big hair, big scarves, ballet pumps and leggings or whatever. I wouldn't get too upset by it though, honestly.

And you saw The View? you have my condolences. Awful awful band.

Mine's still Ugg Boots with....well anything, which is still pretty much what the avarage Merseysider seems to be wearing the d a m n things with, including those at my new college's beauty department. They've bought out a new knitted yukness now too, and when I canvassed opionions on it (i.e. asked people what they thought while I had a coffee with them), a lot said they loved them. It's therefore me that is at fault, so I intend to rectify this by buying loads of ..... what? (Answers on a postcard please). (Just kidding obviously - email me.)

Men wear UGG boots too? Apocalypse is coming sooner than I thought...

I have two alternatives as far as leggings-under-shorts looks go. Either tall socks or tights/stockings. Even my mother wears stockings under her pants with some sneakers or something. She'll rarely wear anything showing her legs when out in public. So she's wearing stockings.

I just get burned out on leggings so much. I know from experience that you tend to pair one garment you like with various other looks to come up with something new and nice. How do you think I feel about wearing my boots with a lot of my jeans and sometimes my formal clothing? No problem with leggings. Just that what some clothes are worn with leggings tend to disgust me. I've always loved tunic + leggings. Some femmes show that you can wear a nice dress with leggings. And that's fine too. Even my friend from Paris once sported cute leggings to go with one of her dresses and looked great. I've seen leggings under a jumper that someone at school wore once. That worked VERY well. Over time, I accepted leggings under skirts (especially mini skirts and especially denim mini skirts). But pairing SHORTS with leggings is just a failed experiment every time. Only exception is if these are tights (with feet) to be paired with shorts and some decent footwear. This link shows shorts + leggings/tights done pretty well in a picture: < http://www.thefashionpolice.net/2007/11/short-shorts-1.html >. Love or loathe them, but I'd prefer any shoes ranging from some cute ballet flats to tall high-heel boots. If you're daring, maybe try some romantic ankle boots.

Anything along the lines of leggings or footless tights paired with shorts, however, is a fail to me almost 4 out of 5 times. You can't pair leggings with any sort of garment along with Vans slip-on sneakers or Converses and expect to look great.

tea dresses, and most vintage stuff to be honest

I completely agree. Tea dresses are just yawny, and unoriginal vintage stuff (or vintage clothes wearers who think they're superior) is really, really, really boring, if not annoying.

I have a friend who had a lovely figure, and would just destroy it with wearing top to toe vintage in such an obsessive way that it had to look authentic, and she ended up looking like a dumpy old lady. Even a sun dress had to be accompanied with white gloves! Whenever I'd try and mention that perhaps the reason men never looked at her was because she didn't accentuate her good features (not only was everything vintage, she never blow dried her hair, dyed in a purple black and wore eyeshadow but no foundation or mascara) she would be very condescending and tell me I didn't understand vintage.

Still, I'm not sure if I preferred that to her current primark obsession, where she'll tell me that her items are just as nice as my very expensive ones, but cost her no money. No, you look nice because you weigh 8 stone and can wear cheap clothes successfully! I need a bit of help!
