Trends you regret trying

everyone at my school goes for the 'emo' look... cant they be more original? i wish more people had minds of their own...

and i cant really say i regrat trying a trend, because i try to stay away from them... BUT i throught of buying ugg boots, i'm soooooo glad i didnt tho! i would have shot myself!

We don't have a lot of emo tryhards - most people that are emo have been that way as long as I can remember them. One trend we do have, is TNA-ugg-abercrombie-AE-blondes. I don't regret buying my TNA pants before they were ever popular, but I just hate wearing them now because there'll be 50 other girls at my school wearing those same pants that same day.

i no what you mean! loads of people at school are just starting the emo look, they try so hard, its sooooo bad

Poor kids.... :( They need to be protected from the emo epidemic..... it's getting very contagious....

Wait till the emo thing gets "untrendy" among the emo crowd, they'll turn to something new.... I am sure it's just a phase.. ...you can't just go around looking and being that ridiculous without realizing it anytime soon....

I have no idea what this emo trend is......is it some kind of rock style? i´m sorry im totally lost.

^^^lol, thanx northernsky, i just read my post again, couldn't help but vent out..

I have so many to list......
cowboy boots.
peasant skirts.
juicy couture shirred dresses.
juicy couture in general.
destroyed denim jeans and mini skirts.
anything and everything with skulls.
graphic tees.
sequins.
guachos.
asymmetrical hem.

I'm embarressed just listing them. haha.

OMG!! Come to Sydney, and you will come across some of the most lamest tryhard 'emo' kids ever! Let me try and paint a picture for you:
Large contingents of 13-16 yr olds all dress in black, including their black skinny jeans with their chuck taylors, beads and tyed ribbon (referring to girls) in their spiked up, unwashed, black and blonde low-light hair. The boys walk around with their skinnies hanging half way down their ****, thinking they look so 'emo' with their unkept, long fringed hair trying to pretend they don't really care what they look like, even though they make sure that their fringe is precisely covering one eye. They all take up smoking coz having a lit cigarette in your hand makes you "way cool and totally emo".Their outfit is not an 'emo' outfit unless they're wearing a music shirt showing their complete and utter dedication to some band i.e. The Used ,Simple Plan, Green Day are among the favourites. Along with the band tee, they carry around either a skateboard, an I-pod that is blasting the latest band obsession e.g Fall Out Boy or My Chemical Romance, certain facial body piercings or a mix of the three. The one thing that stays constant, would probaby be the "I-hate-the-world-and-the-world-hates-me' attitude. It can be really lame and cringeworthy but oh well, I guess that they're 'emo' and no matter how I hard to try to convince myself that this is just a phase, to them, it's a state of mind and ultimately trendy.
I just personally don't think that sumone should spend their pocket money on a $50 Ramones band T-shirt just because everyone else is doing it. It should be abt the music, not just the trend. In saying this, not every single person I see wearing a whole outfit in black means that they're tryhards, it's just you can really tell which ones have fallen victim to the trend and who haven't, well IMO anywayz....sorry 4 the big rant, but I had to vent out my frustration...:p

OFMG. HAhaha! This is sooo funny, especially that part! Emokids are really weird. But it's the same with gothics you know.
I hate the gothic look. Black clothes, black shoes, black make-up, black hair. EVERY F*CKING thing is black. And they're always depressed somehow. And the worst thing is: when they cut themselves, they put on a shirt so everyone can see it.

And to go on about horrible trends:
Uggs
Mukluks
Bolero's
Cowboyboots
Sunglasses à la Mary Kate Olsen (her head is way to small)
her hobo look. Seriously, if you have got a lot of money, don't dress like a homeless person.
black Le Coq Sportif boots

Imagine how tiresome it gets seeing more and more clones every week for the past year and 8 or so months =/

Just cleaned out all my old stuff from my parent's house and I have two words: Mini backpack

Totatly useless, silly looking and a pain. I love the quote in Swingers with Vince Vaugn when he says, "and I'm suppose to be all excited because she is wearing a backpack." Hehe

Nothing really. I have been anti-trend as long as I can remember. I did long flowy ethnic skirts long before boho, I was being Hitchcock-esque long before ladylike, Grecian a la Lucilla from Gladiator long before Grecian came back... etc etc. I also liked wierd things with a twist and things never seem wierd when they are in fashion. My inspiration always comes from TV, books and films not fashion or street style.

Although having said that, I am currently in a very 'hip' skinny jean phases because my current obsession (Pete Doherty) happens to be everyone else's obsession too. I hope I don't regret it!

I am also really into Firefly and have been buying kimonos and piano shawls left right and center like Inara from the show and dyeing my hair black and trowelling on the red lipstick. People haven't done ethnic since the 90s so I'm ok.

I don't usually follow trends in how I actually dress day to day, but I definitely regret buying some trendy items I never wore. (Examples: a bright green poncho, a pair of rainbow wedges, tweed pumps.) I guess I actually wore all of these things at least once, but they haven't left my closet since.

I went through a really terrible "hippie style" phase... Dreads, ripped denim...... :ninja:

Lol, me too. I had dreads, handmade patchwork clothes, didn't shave, the whole nine yards, haha. I can't say I don't look back on that time with fondness and some appreciation for the culture but man, it didn't work for me as a fashionista, that's for sure.

Oh yes... I think we all went through a very rebellious phase, trying to dress "poor" and play a role... I went through that phase until I realised that i didn't have to change myself to fully adhere to a certain way of thinking...

You know, I'm not so sure I regret any trends I wore... It's all a part of experimenting and growing... It usually takes a while to find out what really works.

Many style icons and accomplished designers didn't really find their true style before they were well into their 30's or 40's. And I bet they all made huge "mistakes" on their way.

Hard work, I grew out of that SO fast...

Dolce & Gabbana. Now, that was a mistake; they were better a while ago though.
