UK Elle October 2012 : Gwen Stefani By Matt Irwin

Love seeing Gwen! I don't mind the styling at all and I love the use of colors. I just wish they hadn't blocked some of the text.

The styling is bad bad bad and nothing really different from last month. Always love the way ELLE UK goes to outdoors so Im not really feeling it.

the subscribers cover is really cute, I like the outfit esp the McQ dress, hope the rest of the edit is good

I like that cover much more! It's fun and joyful like Gwen.

i entered the competition for this intern thing, and lets just say i would not have wanted to produce something like that for the cover

^ Actually, the interns didn't produce the cover shoot. The shoot took place the last weekend of June, and the interns for the competition hadn't even been chosen yet, and weren't supposed to start until mid-July ish, so the cover was probably chosen before they even arrived.

I think the whole thing was more of a mentorship, I don't think they'd let ten interns take full reign of the entire issue...

Perhaps the interns really did do the editing. On an article about Carven and the big celebrity following it now has there's a large picture of Elizabeth Olsen. Wearing Proenza Schouler. Sloppy.

Oh boy. That's not good. Will have to take a look at that, but I suppose that's what happens when you ask interns from *any* industry to contribute...

^ Thanks for the preview, serendipity8777! The shots look really good, I love the concept.

That Mary Katrantzou look where she has her hand on her chin with the floral background would have made an insanely good cover...

Thank goodness I'll be getting the subscriber's cover, it's much more interesting and playful. On the whole, the cover looks so much like RHW's cover last month with the blue text, white background and floral print outfit. Disappointingly unoriginal.

I received an e-mail from Elle today to say the High Street Supplement will be dispatched all subscriber's separately. I did think it was odd the issue hadn't come with one!

Seriously, I'm considering canceling my subscription after I've had a decent look through this afternoon. It's a complete bore. Not even the intern-thing can revive this magazine. The entire magazine is within desperate need of new blood. But since I have been a continuous reader of Elle since 2005, I feel I have to own every issue.. just for the sheer heck of it, and to add to a growing collection. I'd hate to make a drastic decision and for Elle to become what it once was. Every issue is just so forgettable.

i agree i just flipped through it. the intern thing was a bit of a waste, they didn't even seem like they did much

In terms of interns editing the magazine, if they possess the skills to do that, don't give them publicity, just give them a proper job. That's what I want UK Elle to do, rather than pat themselves on the back in public.

The cover shot is included in the main editorial, and the immense lack of photoshop on Gwen's face is insane. My main issue with the cover was that Gwen's face looked far too washed out, and in the editorial it looks much more natural looking. They definitely went a little too trigger happy with it for the cover...

In terms of content, it's actually a very solid October issue. The Edited by the Interns thing definitely wasn't that big - a few indications they edited/wrote/styled a page with a little logo on the page, which makes it clear that they didn't have free reign.

There's a big, big focus on the actual ELLE team - a lot of features have staffers included for testimonies, and it's actually quite nice - there's a feature on how the editors that go to fashion week pack, which is really funny/light hearted for a magazine.

This is probably my favourite issue of the magazine for the season...so far.

I didn't redeem my subscription when it ended 2 months ago and I don't think I'll do it for some time. I may consider it after I'll see something interesting and fresh inside the mag. The cover really looks like previous month's one with Rosie.
