UK Vogue December 2017 : Adwoa Aboah by Steven Meisel

Enninful will be signing limited-edition hardback copies of the December issue between 11am and 1pm on November 16 at the Condé Nast Worldwide News store at Vogue House.

This is not a ticketed event and will be done on a first come, first served basis. We recommend arriving early.

The books, which cost £75 each, will be available to purchase at the Condé Nast Worldwide News store at Vogue House. Only 200 copies will be up for grabs, so to ensure you don't miss out we would recommend arriving early.

Striking, glamorous and fun. Adwoa looks divine and this makes me really excited for Edward's era!

I really like it, but then the formula is tried and tested, it’s just a recreation of a vintage cover, it’s not even “inspired by”, it’s just a carbon copy.

Maybe the story will look more inspiring than the covers alludes to…

Too retro and flat for my taste. Very vintage-y-looking. Reminds me of the The Face-wannabe short-lived Blitz Magazine from the 90s. “Great Britain” would have created an impact; the namedropping is just an eyesore. With such weak art direction, hoping the fashion will be something worthy of the new era.

Thanks vogue28

Indeed. Personally I think it looks bad, passé and very much like Vogue Italia, I don´t see the British identity, this model looks dead in her eyes, the fashion looks way too retro and no connection with the makeup = NEXT! Steven Meisel, a new rising interesting model and you come up with that Edward? ...

So did they recreate this May 1969 cover?

I thought I was gonna feel underwhelmed when I saw the name Adwoa but OMG this is major! I’m in love and am excited for what’s gonna come up in the future!

Took the words right out of my mouth, LS! It's a facsimile. Yes, the image is great, Adwoa looks great, I don't know what to make of the art direction - my first thoughts are that I loathe it. But it's too carbon copy for my taste.

But it's something new for this title, and that alone is worth to be celebrated!!

Edward is a smart man. He knows we’re in a era where retro sells and this rebranding will be a hit: Gucci, SLP, Balenciaga, Vetements all are based on retro-wear— and giants and leaders in the industry. Even Emmanuelle’s Vogue is hugely based on the 70s and 80s— and she’s leading with an assured sense of confidence. And she’s able to modernize that era and bring it into the current times (most of the time LOL).

Whether Edward is able to do in the long term what Emmanuelle’s capable of remains to be seen. But if Steven is now a part of his team, at least the presence of high fashion can surely be expected.

(Can I hope for a January Lineisy cover, resplendent in 70s afro...?)

Great Britain. But wearing American Marc Jacobs.

No cover lines. You cant have a list of famous people every month.

It will be interesting what happens in the next few issues.

Wow, how patriotic! There wasn't one British designer able to provide a garishly campy kaftan? Six months and something as logistical as the cover brand fell through the cracks.

I'm in agreement with the ones who pointed out that we shall see his true impact within the next few months.

It is a beautiful image... but too retro... late 60ies jumping into 70ies... Love that they didn’t airbrush her freckles... In any case, it is different, not as forward thinking as we would like but at least not totally dull... happy for her and I hope we have more diversity from now on!!!

Wow. I'm just enthralled by seeing UK Vogue and Meisel's name together...such a wonderful combination.

The cover is a little too retro I guess, but it's a classy, memorable image of Adowa. Can't wait to see inside, will def have to pick this up.

I concur that it is a huge let down to learn that she is wearing an American designer on the cover! I mean if you plan to SPLASH "GREAT BRITAIN" on the cover, then go all the way. It feels like a gimmick now!!

But it's not like this cover is all about Fashion, and you can't even see it that much. This will be used against him by the UK press though, they had so many attacks on him already!

I also think this is just an introduction, so i wouldn't put much into art direction here, future issues will show his true vision for the magazine!

I was ready to hate when I read Adwoa but this is STUNNING. Well, a late 60's (early 70s) VI ripoff after all, but really beautiful!

It’s a stunning photo. I don’t like all the text though.

Instantly iconic.

Looks very very classy and actually quite a bit more intellectual than I was expecting.

Adwoa is utterly sublime in this photo. I've never felt much about her one way or the other, but this is spectacular.

Someone else made the point that this is like a complete reinvention - it's difficult to make such a statement without being accused of exaggeration, but I have to agree 100%. There are zero remnants of Alexandra on this cover. It's entirely FRESH.

LOVE.
LOVE.
LOVE.

A "new era" of copying from the past begins at Vogue UK...Great Britain or Great Boredom??
