US Vogue April 2015 : Serena Williams by Annie Leibovitz

Just got my subscription issue today and as a relatively new subscriber I was wondering has this magazine always been printed on such god awful paper? Is it supposed to be a fashion bible? I mean, when I was buying Vogue is my country, it had thicker cover and pages, they were so glossy and it also added to my fascination with magazines, but here it feels like it is almost printed on a toilet paper. Is it because it is cheap (for US subscribers at least)? As for the cover itself, I actually liked it, and it is very nice to see such a personality on Vogue cover as Serena. Too bad she barely has any pictures inside. As for edits, I flipped through the pages quickly and nothing really caught my eye. Everything is very plain and forgettable. Tami's, I&V (surprised to see Adriana, but in a good way) and Weber's one with Andrea, Gigi and Jessica are ok. Putting selfie shots inside of Vogue though is simply shameful.

Oh my goodness thanks for pointing out the quality of the paper! I did not even notice it at all! Having said that, now I'm kinda bothered by how thin it is and how fragile it now feels.

^ How about this "new" art direction? It drives me CRAZY!! Wintour thinks its modern, but it just looks damn messy! Page layouts are horrible, and unappealing!

Oh dear you have no idea how it annoys me!! The over usage of Didot, the capitalized text, the, the expanded editorial titles. I seriously hope they won't continue to use Didot on their covers and I hope the bold text comes back because the thin ones are irritating. The inner pages for me seems like a knockoff of Bazaar that bombed so badly!

2008-2010 Vogue is the best Layout wise tbh

Personally, I've never thought of American Vogue as a magazine that provided a stimulating page layout. Although I too have noticed a dramatic change in their design of late. While it may not be a radical difference, I've certainly noticed the odd subtle change within the past few issues. I was just about to type Wintour doesn't appear to be the type who plays around with her magazine, but I've been dumbfounded with some of her cover choices lately and I'm eager to find out how well this issue with Serena does.

In her Editor's Letter, Anna says hordes of Vogue staff poured in to view the cover when it came in. She seems to chalk it up to Serena, but I think it's because the staff was expecting it to be Kendall/Testino LA ed.

I never want to see a selfie printed on paper again. I regret complaining about Caroline Trentini in light of Kendall's Vogue omnipresence.

not gonna lie if i received this issues with this cover i'd terminate my vogue subscription on the spot

I love this. She looks fit and strong and proud and beautiful. I love the hair, it's what gives the cover visual interest (since the dress is very simple). I'd like to see the cover in HD to really judge the dress, but it is maybe a bit more plain than I'd have liked. Still, everything else is perfect. Even the text placement works better than usual. Kudos to Vogue for making an unexpected choice not just in who is on the cover, but in how as well. It would be much more obvious to either try and glam her up beyond recognition or to but her in more obvious sportswear with a sleek ponytail or something. Wow. I just really love this.

I stand by my comment from 6 years ago haha
