US Vogue February 2019 : Reese Witherspoon by Zoe Ghertner

Wow! Is it me or Vogue finally found their identity after the Testino/2018 crisis?

Reese is a surprise to me, considering that is award season and there are more “relevant” celebrities there. But, I’m glad to see her again.

Were they trying to emulate that gorgeous Gwyneth Paltrow cover by Herb Ritts with that setting and golden light? If so, they failed miserably.

I love this. I think for what she is doing, producing and standing by, it is a perfect choice for a filler month. Also the choice of the dress is perfect. Nonetheless, it is beautiful on a boring side of the scale.

Reese looks beautiful as always, but that dress is freaking ugly and it ruins the shot completely! If this styled by Tonne, I’m going to have to have a chat with her about this dress and why it was chosen!!?!? Editorial is okay, nothing special.

As I didn’t have Reese on my list to cover this issue this year, it would have been nice to have Shailene instead or Zoe. Just a fresh face on the cover and hand Reese to InStyle mag.

If you would've told me years ago that Reese, with a baby at her hip at 22 (very odd for 1999 considering she had that wholesome teen queen thing going) would go on to not only accomplish what she have, but also remain one of the most bankable actresses of this era I'd have laughed in your face. I often forget about how hard she's been working until I see someone like @dodencebt break it down like that. And especially when you consider who her peers are, and what they're up to. Kirsten Dunst, Selma Blair, Monica Potter, etc etc

I always got the opposite impression - even back then, I'd have put Reese Witherspoon near the top of the overachievers list.

I'd say she's a bit like Dolly Parton - they might have spent years cultivating a public image of being a harmless blonde airhead, but underneath it all, they're extremely astute businesswomen.

I’m with you. Reese is a bit of a force to be reckoned with I think, she plays the bubbly blonde simply because people wanted her to. She’s smart and a clever business woman but still highly relatable and ‘next door’. To me it’s never been a surprise she was such a favourite of US Vogue’s. It’s nice to see her back here for the stage her career is at now (the best in my opinion) but I can’t handle that dress on the cover. I’m no expert but that left breast looks bizarre, like they’ve tried to Photoshop it into looking less obvious but have instead drawn more attention to it.

The family shot is great. It wouldn’t surprise me if Ava ends up on covers in the near future.

She went to Stanford for God’s sake, she’s not a bimbo. I welcome her on the cover quite happily, but I think the editorial could use more fashion. I personally just miss the glamour in Vogue these days. The fantasy of it all seems to have disappeared.

I like it... they photographed her a bit like you would imagine a man being photographed without much fuss... she looks a bit pale (makeup) on the cover but it sort of works in her strength... quite beautiful...

Ahhhh it’s nice to see thE US vogue back to its aesthetic. Might be boring but it’s better than the experiments that they had in 2018. The second shot from her editorial where she smiles would make an amazing cover too!

So the rumour JB and Hailey for the cover is WRONG !!! LOL

Maybe that's why POP had a spoiler and some Bieber Hype lined-up for today???

Anyway, this is boring. Looks like a mom mag from decades ago.

Wow! Great cover...
It’s classic American Vogue but there’s something different, fresh and quite warm.

I bet Anna is only going to challenge herself by having new photographers. Too bad we all know that Leibovitz and Sims are going to ruin everything with their future covers.

This aesthetic suits US Vogue so well.

I don’t get the green dress tho.

WRONG! Why do some of you all insist on making nonsensical statements on this site? In the cover rumor thread there's photographic evidence that Vogue staff were present at the Biebers' shoot.

Just because the Biebers' didn't get this cover doesn't mean that won't get a cover. Whether digital or newsstand (and I certainly don't put it past Anna to give them the newsstand cover after January's debacle). Like, come on! You Anna stans get to stan another month with rose colored glasses on but don't get ahead of yourselves.

As for this cover, I have a few things to say but apparently because I am just so 'cringey' with how I proclaim that Anna is the "w0rsT" for pointing out how trashy her Vogue is, I'll keep them to myself.

That being said, these covers lines are just as cringeworthy and dare I saw problematic as last month's. But nobody cares, so moving on...

Maybe after the test drive that was their August issue, Vogue realised it's better to go back to basics. An indie-fied American Vogue would be a tough sell in the long run anyway because the values of this magazine goes against the core of what a Dazed or ID stands for.. With this cover and maybe the last two I'm getting the impression that they're back to catering to a more mature audience. And doing a great job so far. Bring it on, I say.
