"That's Amore" by Mario Testino, styled by Grace Coddington has Natalia on holiday in venice, being the beautiful young thing she is, except i've seen this before...the ed she did with mert & marcus (i think). i love natalia, but it would have been nice to see someone else play this role for a change.
she wears:
two outfits from balenciaga
two outfits from prada
narciso rodriguez's trench w/ysl pleat trim dress
2 outfits from marc jacobs
carolina herrera, comme des garcons
plus rochas, calvin klein, ralph lauren (similar suit to the one caroline wore), vera wang, lanvin and a dolce & gabbana coat.
"the real deal" by mario testino is the piece on kate winslet, arguably the best celebrity profile in a us vogue in ages. the pics are beautiful (she wears michael kors, narciso, ysl) and the interview is smart and entertaining.
"hate it, love it" by sarah mower focuses on the clothes we initially hated (the grunge collection, mcqueen's bumsters, prada's geek chic, yohji yamamoto, etc.) that have become fashion icons. accompanied by an irving penn portrait of lisa cant in marc jacobs "addams family" dress, soon to be included in this group, the author thinks.
"strike it rich" by patrick demarchelier has hana showing off the best fall accessories. rather ordinary studio shots and she
does have her mouth open in almost every one!
other highlights of this issue:
boys of the moment jack mccollough and lazaro hernandez with their ever-growing flock (including gemma, amber, victoria and vanessa traina, and alexandra kerry)
profiles of azzaro designer vanessa seward and the resurgance of aquascutum
"catch the wave" : surfing is the new yoga (accompanied by a great shot of carolyn murphy on the beach)
"having a ball" by william norwich on the met costume gala...another pic of lily donaldson in chanel (probably taken from last month's shoot?) and pics of partygoers...the usual suspects.
life with andre is on his continuing battle to lose weight and his attendance at oprah's legends weekend.
index: what to buy now, the bargain edition (with pieces from bebe, rebecca taylor, bcbg and a.p.c.)
last look: ghesquiere's rediscovery of the balenciaga rhinestone bow bracelet, now being used as an ankle strap (in fushia suede
verdict it's a toss up as to which mag is better, vogue or bazaar, which is something i haven't been able to say in a long time. i would give a slight edge to bazaar, who had more eds, but the quality of the models is higher here. caroline and natalia really shine.
