US Vogue March 2010 : Tina Fey by Mario Testino

As for the features, I'm disappointed that Robert Pattinson is really featured. From Bazaar to Vogue?

He has a movie coming out in March to promote. I´ve heard that his ed is with Emilie De Ravin (his co-star) in the MET. Could be interesting... or not...

One of the most powerful women in entertainment. So I suppose Vogue finally did actually choose someone who can logically front a 'Power Issue'

And then photoshopped half her body away, because there's no escaping it, you have to appear enfeebled to qualify as a successful female, regardless of your actual achievements. The logic that went into the choice flew away in the execution of it. If they'd let her look more like herself, it would be a stronger cover, in all senses.

Whilst I admire her success in the entertainment industry, I find Tina Fey to be one of the most irrelevant women to ever grace the cover and pages of US Vogue.

This is not Vanity Fair or Forbes or Time Magazine, contrary to what Anna Wintour may think, and putting women such as Tina Fey, Michelle Obama etc in Vogue is ridiculously pretetentious.

What bothers me is the lack of loyalty to fashion and the people that inhabit its world. Why should Vogue feel obliged to celebrate Tina Fey if she has absolutely nothing to do with the industry? Yes she is successful, but so what? Is she relevant to a fashion magazine? I don't think so.

Vogue needs to celebrate the successes of people within its own industry; models, designers, photographers, etc.

To me this is nothing but a manipulative bid to sell more issues. Wintour knows that women and men who buy Vogue regularly will purchase this issue regardless. She is trying now to get the masses to buy into Vogue and is killing the magazine's integrity in doing so!

I can't think of a single celebrity more relevant to the American fashion industry than Michelle Obama, nor do I see anything pretentious about the inclusion of Tina Fey. I would wager that she is a considerably more timely choice than last month's Jessica Biel.

I know, I agree so much.

I will say this about Vogue, when they do change things up it makes an impact. I never in a million years would have expected to see Tina Fey on the cover, so the fact that she nabbed a big one is definitely a surprise.

It's a shame she doesn't look as beautiful as she could, though. Her smile seems tense.

Anna, can we please have at least hips in the cover shot next time? I know Tina is a mad genius and all...but she isn't Doutzen Kroes!

 Do people ever get tired from complaining about how there isn't a model on the cover of Vogue US every damn month? Unless it's a multigurl model-themed issue or a model who has become a celebrity in her own right, it ain't going to happen.

Get over it.

I suppose she was shot by Testino again. I don't have anything against with him but to be honest, I am extremely bored with his photography.

Hoping for a Meisel editorial in this issue.:wink: Considering this is their Spring issue. And also, a new line-up of models in the eds.

The cover is really dull and almost mumsy!

This is the issue which BryanBoy and other fashion bloggers did a shoot for late last year! Can't wait to see it.

i'm amazed with the amount of shock and ridicule everybody's dishing out
now that we finally have someone new on the cover. give Vogue some
credit guys. Tina Fey isn't exactly known for her style, but she's definitely
a powerful celebrity, thus fitting the aesthetic of the March issue.

Briefly:

Was a host of SNL. Massive US TV show of her own, 30 Rock. She's got 7 Emmy's, 3 Golden Globes, 4 Screen Actor's Guild awards, and 4 Writer's Guild Of America awards. Writer on films like Mean Girls and Baby Mamma.

One of the most powerful women in entertainment. So I suppose Vogue finally did actually choose someone who can logically front a 'Power Issue'

that ought to be enough. US Vogue has placed celebrities on the cover who
simply pale away from what Tina Fey has accomplished. and as for the execution,
bear in mind that this is US Vogue, beacon of commercialism when it comes
to magazines. they're not particularly known for producing sensational covers
so what's all the fuss about? photoshopped celebrities and massive amounts of
text is nothing new to Vogue. in fact, they're quite popular for that. we should
all know by now to not expect so much from this magazine. the point of this
issue is to sell. and to those who don't know her, do your research for she's
quite a household name already in the US :flower:

↑ I'm happy to have a thick issue again though, now that you mention it.

Amen.

We have a smart, funny, accomplished woman on the cover of a major magazine and people are up in arms because the cover isn't some babyfaced tween sulking in Dior. This cover could have been nicer but I see absolutely no reason why it shouldn't be Tina. Call me crazy but I would say that being an accomplished and powerful woman in this day and age is as true to the Vogue ethos as being well dressed.

I totally agree with Luxx. Finally, we have someone well-deserving of a Vogue cover on the cover of US Vogue and people keep complaining about not having models' covers. Tina is an extraordinary woman and she totally deserves to be on the cover of the Power Issue. Now, that our Brazilian friends have the magazine in their newstands, is anyone willing to do a review? I'd love to hear about content!

Generally speaking, the day that I give up expecting something more from a fairly influential publication is... a day that will never come. I don't care how ingrained a certain aesthetic is, and how apathetic general perceptions have become, none of those things are adequate reasons for not providing something better. Having spent years of my life working in this environment, it comes from deep inside me that the commercial pressures of the print industry shouldn't ever be used as a convenient excuse to peddle certain things when you're actually in a position to change them. But that depends on the agenda of those in charge.

I have no gripe at all with the wonderful Tina Fey. What they've done with her is not so wonderful. Sure, photoshop the skin, but leave some of the flesh, please.

I don't find US Vogue pretentious. They just put people WHO THEY THINK is relevant, fashionable and fresh. Which some of us, like me, agree on. All they have to do is to sell, which I think they do
