Valentino F/W 10.11 : Freja Beha, Monika Jagaciak & Tati Cotlar by David Sims

Now that I see the nude shots next to the dressed ones the concept makes a lot more sense to me and I think its really beautiful:flower:, Frejas shots are just mindblowing, she looks so gentle and lovely.

I've always associated the Valentino label with classy elegance and sophistication. Never thought I'd see a naked tattooed "fragile" chick in a Valentino ad...

For the "naked" part, you dont see boobs so it's still subtle
For the "tattooed" part, the the statement of the tattoo shown is nowhere near to rebellious. "Serendipity is Life" is still Valentino I think

I'm beginning to suspect it's less an advertising campaign, and more a veiled attempt at finishing off the maestro... they'll find him on the floor of his apartment, having suffered a fit at the sight of some new sacrilege in print. And they'll blame skin cancer, or self-tanners and chemical overload, but we'll all know who's really behind it.

It looks like they were trying to do some sort of Balenciaga campaign.
It does look arty in a way and I don't think it looks particularly weird until it gets to the actual thing they're trying to sell - the clothes. The clothes just look crap.

David Sims for Valentino is a major fail. Mert & Marcus brought some kind of mystery and artfulness to Valentino. David Sims brings some kind of Balenciaga Fall 2007 redux mixed with Calvin Klein Jeans predatory aesthetics. I just dont understand the way they decided to shoot the nudes. I feel wrong just looking at them, am I the only one? :innocent:

I think you are totally right, I feel , in my modest opinion, they are just trying to "modernize" the brand, with all the new people in front...and it seams to me...they don't realize Valentino,as the brand, doesn't need to be renovate...so...they should rewind, go back to the raws of the brand...and start again.

Now that I have seen the making-of video, I feel this campaign would be 10x times better if it were in color. So many rich colors that got lost...

The campaign has grown on me but I feel like this could have been taken to another level by making the right decisions. It's a good concept overall.

Catalogue F/w 2010

The catalogue is very cute and shows the campaign. Not a bad one to boost but seeing on youtube the S/S2008 shot by Lamsweerde& Matadin, in color, I can see it was a stronger campaign.
