Valentino F/W 10.11 : Freja Beha, Monika Jagaciak & Tati Cotlar by David Sims

Im a little confused by the choice of Tati, and the nude shot but I do like the other shot its chic and modern, I am anxious to see the rest of the shots, cause I love Jac and Freja and the collection was gorgeous.

Like that statement they gave a week ago when the Resort collection came out: “We’re focusing on a young and fragile woman who wants to be modern via special fabrics and techniques.”

I thought it might be some slight mistranslation, but from what I've seen of the new Valentino 'woman' so far, the more I fear it rings true - although until I see these adverts in print, I won't know the full effect of them. "Fragile" wouldn't be a winning concept in my world.
Wow, I didn't even know that when I made my comment. Since that was their aim, the ad is successful in conveying that (so far). I just don't know why they want their aesthetic to be "fragile", but I guess that speaks more to brand identity.

I understand the need to establish the new designers' identity. As Mr. Dale said, they failed miserably trying to recreate Valentino's identity and they now need to break away to be successful. Since Valentino always about powerful and bold women, even when it wasn't trendy, they are going totally opposite. However, fashion has moved to a more aggressively sexy image in the past few seasons (even Prada and LV's ladylike outfits put a huge focus on the breasts). I just don't know where this fits in the current fashion climate. But again, that is more about general brand identity than the current ads.

i have loved their new approach to re-designing their collections; but its always miss with the campaigns. the clothing is beautiful when we see it on the runway. im beginning to think it would be a much more pleasing option to use runway images as a campaign (ie. donna karan)

wtf is this sh!t? seriously is this what Valentino has become? I didn't think things could get any worse. It just looks sad, not melancholic because melancholic can be good, just sad and a little bit pathetic but I think some of that is down to the model. Hopefully Jac and Freja's shots will be better.

I disagree withe some of you.

There are hundreds of brands that present supposedly modernity.

Valentino was the last brand to present good couture and classic patterns that never fail. The eternal has no age.

And these designers don't present modernity, present flat mediocrity, the same as Donatella in Versace.

The worst couture is now called modernity. Ad campaigns with temporary and insubstantial models, too.

I like it but it's definitely different from how Valentino ads look like in the past.

Not too fond of it tbh :ninja: I really like Tati and I think she looks great here, but...after all it's supposed to be a campaign. And this rather reminds me of an ed or something.
Actually, the whole cast seems pretty random to me. Very happy for each girl to be in this (I'm not a real fan of any of the girls but I still think they deserve it) and I'm all for surprises and unusual casting - but in this case I'm not quite sure that it really works out.

Excited to see the other shots though!

 A new day in "The New Valentino Era" drama... God, so many bashing already and you've only seem one image?! Jeez...

I'm looking forward to see more and more images... Loving the fragile vibe!!! And I don't really get Tati's appeal yet, but she does showcase this new image pretty well!

Can't get this at all.It took Mr Valentino many years to bulid a successful brand image - glamorous, powerful and mature, but now they try to go the opposite - young and fraglie?WTF?This is not what a successor designer working for a major fashion house should do.They should try to sustain the brand image, with a little twist of their own.At least this is what I think.

Ok Monika's naked shot looks like an outtake from a sex tape, or a shot where someone caught her changing backstage, which is definitly not good!

Well, now seeing the full campaign, I have to say this is no good. First, Jac looks terrible.

But what really is turning me off from these images is that the first preview we got was so dark, so black, so moody. It was gorgeous. However, all of these from valentino.com are so grey and the studio shots look so cheap.

Given that half the campaign involves nudity, I take it that Valentino is trying to sell me birthday suits, rather than actual clothes. Meanwhile, the clothed parts remind me of a bunch of homeless kids playing dress-up.

That said, if Valentino had a cosmetics range, those girls would be six inches thick in the stuff, so maybe I should be grateful for the sight of such fresh faces.

Monika's pictures are beautiful, she actually saves this campaign for me.

Though I still don't get the idea of putting the nude images next to the actual clothes shot, looks totally out of place.

I guess even Freja can't save this campaign for me. It's incredibly boring and I'm disliking the Mert & Marcus to David Sims shift.
I'll give the campaign one thing, the eyewear shots are nice. Most likely because I can actually see them.. they aren't drowned in the photography.

don't like Monika's shots at all. i wish would, because she is such a nice girl.
freja's and tati's are ok.
