Vanity Fair June 2015: Caitlyn Jenner by Annie Leibovitz

The general attitude I get from Social Justice Warriors is just so negative. Nothing is ever good enough...everything is problematic. Not that we should all be satisfied with things as is and call it a day - but I really don't see the purpose in degrading Caitlyn's public transformation, or minimizing her past achievements. No one person can change the world, but Caitlyn being honest, up front and candid about her life now has created a nation-wide dialogue and hopefully has and will continue to encourage bravery from others by simply being an example.

Caitlyn is not an activist, a politician or lobbyist, nor does she need to be. Being her true self and true to herself is the best thing she can do. The more public examples there are of people being their true selves, the better!

This is so frustrating!

I think it is so narrow minded of people to focus on the Kardashian-aspect of the matter. Why is it more important to hate the Kardashians than to show compassion for those struggeling because of prejudice towards transgender people?

Honestly if anything, Caitlyn and her whole new identity experience are really starting to diverge from the whole Kardashian empire. Did any of you read the article? Caitlyn (as well as the author) completely SLAMMED Kris, hence why she probably didn't write a message of support endorsing the article. She's probably furious at Caitlyn. Not to mention, as I believe someone in this thread earlier said this, Kris is no longer his manager as she is now with a new management firm. Judging from the article and certain things that were said in the Sawyer interview, Caitlyn is tired of being associated with the Kardashian empire, and wants to be solely recognized.

How did Vanity Fair’s Jessica Diehl Pull Off Caitlyn Jenner’s Shoot?

By Eddie Roche | June 2, 2015

Sure, Caityln Jenner was yesterday’s hot topic due to her epic Vanity Fair cover (aka the best kept secret in media history), but everyone was also wondering: How the hell did the VF fashion team pull that off? “Normally we go to Valentino or Armani, and say we are shooting a cover and ask if they can give us some clothes [to borrow],” VF‘s Jessica Diehl told VanityFair.com. “For this, I had to go into stores incognito, so to speak—not like anyone would know what I looked like anyway—and buy stuff. That was actually what was fun. It was like Vanity Fair: Off the Rack.”

So, what did Diehl tell her very own staff? “Well, my poor office thought we were doing Barbra Streisand!” she says. “I just couldn’t think of anyone tall. [Laughs] And I don’t even know if Barbra Streisand is tall, but in my mind she was tall. And so that just seemed right. I should have said Rene Russo, who I think [Caitlyn] looks like more anyway. The secrecy, I have to say, had a lot to do with being discreet and shopping—a lot of which we did online. We talked to no one. Literally, the people here at Vanity Fair did not know. Three people in the fashion department knew, including me.”

Diehl also notes that Jenner was surprisingly cozy in her own skin at the shoot. “She was comfortable, confident, and has absolutely no reason not to be,” she says. “It was probably the most exciting thing to see—there was real joy in her feeling comfortable and happy in her skin. It was amazing. I don’t usually get super-sentimental about things, but that was probably the most emotional and open experience I have ever had on a shoot.”

Well she will continue to be a reality tv star, no? People are calling her show here simply a spin off of the Kardashian's, and that's what it is. As long as she continues in the reality world, she clearly is not distancing herself from the Kardashian empire, she's feeding from it to make it more lucrative for her. No wonder Kris must be fuming...Caitlyn can have it both ways.

Just opened BUZZ here on tFS and glad to see the news about the positive outlook towards transgender acceptance that this cover made. I know the survey does not reflect the entirety of America and of the world, but at least we're going somewhere from this. Small positivity is better than having none at all so I'd take it.

I don't understand why it is so important to not associate Caitlyn with The Kardashians.

Should Caitlyn not be allowed to do reality tv because her family does it? I don't understand this logic at all.

So she could be on KUWTH when she was Bruce, but not now? Why should her options be limited because of her transformation?

What logic? She can do whatever she wants on my view. She IS a reality TV star, isn't that what i've been saying from the start? My opinion of Bruce/Caitlyn remains the same, I thought Bruce demeaned himself on the Kardashian's, the same way i think that the association of Caitlyn to the Kardashian's is very negative. What i find quite funny is people thinking Caitlyn will transcend the Kardashian's, by being the center of another reality TV show, presuming that the problem is some sort of personal hate half the word harbours against the Kardashian's (i can safely say I've never seen a single episode) and not against the vacuousness of reality TV stars in themselves.
