Versace F/W 2022.23 by Mert Alas & Marcus Piggott

Hum... I don't know, let's see!

I don’t understand the point of hiring (and paying for) celebrities if you’re just going to actively work against their most valuable feature - recognizability. I don’t mind the ad, but it looks a little like D&G to me and I’d not have known that was Lily if I hadn’t already read the thread title.

Never would've recognised Lily if she wasn't credited! So far, I'm not too sold on it. Guess we'll have to wait to see more.

I'm able to appreciate how much of a vast departure this is from previous studio-shot campaigns, and very pleasantly surprised to see Lily James score a Versace campaign (regardless of being a firm fave of Donatella). However, the beauty styling is abysmal. Squint... and it's Lara Stone.

If you tone down some contrast and leave it less retouched - this would look like a carbon copy of Juergen's style, especially reminiscent of his circa 2015-16 LV books and more recent Saint Laurent work. It's too unpolished and "freestyle" to fit in with M&M portfolio.

Love Lily, she looks so different after Pam & Tommy. I thought she was going to become the next Keira Knightley, but Lily is such a pretty modern muse now. I like the second, real model vibes as Jo said.

Okay she looks amazing.. I’m not a big fan (cause.. no one to judge but forever judging that public outing in Italy lol) but she is incredibly chameleonic.

Also nothing new for Versace to make their campaign stars unrecognizable, they did it with Xtina back in the day.. sometimes it’s the only way, Lily is kind of pedestrian and there’s something corny about her when not in character so.. might as well have her play non-broke e-girl.

After JLO's campaign, Versace has been using celebrities (actresses/singers) in their campaigns! I think it must have been due to the considerable increase in sales...

To me, Xtina was still instantly recognizable in those ads, as a pop star she had a strong enough image to sample new looks without getting lost in them. Lily looks great, but why bother with her at all, why not just get an actual model? Because I doubt hardly anyone seeing these ads in store or in a magazine will, unprompted, know it’s Lily James.

You might forget the social media impact of her followers in the equation.

I LOVE it! Can´t wait to see more more.
Thanks for sharing :)

I love this.

It's really selling the collection for me. It's sexy. Hopefully the men's is just as good.

Wouldn't mind seeing some shots with models as well.

If she had a huge loyal following to be leveraged, sure. But she’s sitting at around 3 million on Instagram. For perspective, actual model Lily Aldridge has double that.
