Some people are focusing too much on the cover and not what this represents, which is truly the most important thing here. Yes, Gemma sticks out terribly in the cover image, but it's the fact that India has something has prominent as Vogue for themselves that is really the aspect we should be discussing. I for one am interested in the contents and seeing what this country has to say about fashion.

^But the cover -- especially since this is the premier issue -- very much reflects the innate ideology of the publication as well as its future direction. How exactly Gemma's presence can relate to the contents will be critical here...

I hope they don't just reprint Gemma's Indian Summer editorial from UK Vogue. Ujjwala Raut was seriously robbed by not getting this cover, which other indian model has made it as big as her? There are a couple of girls working in the west right now, but not the way she has. It's not even about the fact that she made it in the West, she was a successful model at home as well.

there is a other culture and it could be that all magazines there are heavy airbrushed?
hope that it looks better inside and has a interessting content and good eds..

The first cover of Vogue India has been graced by faces that are adored both in India & abroad -- Bipasha Basu, Gemma Ward, Priyanka Chopra, Monikangana, Preity Zinta and Laxmi Menon. Each of them favourites in the world of fashion, beauty, and Bollywood, the Vogue cover girls have been shot by Patrick Demarchelier, one of the world's leading fashion photographers.

Styled by one of Vogue's most respected fashion directors, Lucinda Chambers from British Vogue, the models wear clothes by Roberto Cavalli, Valentino, Gorgio Armani, Chanel, Christian Dior and Gucci for the shoot.

Bollywood starlets Preity and Bipasha said, "Being shot for the first issue was an exhilarating experience for us. We had the best of the Indian and international fashion industry working with us on the shoot."

The inaugural issue has writing on subjects by some of the most celebrated writers of the day along with the mesmerising collection of fashion photography.

Vogue's launch issue pays tribute to the phenomenon that has captured the hearts, minds and wardrobes of a billion people -- Bollywood. Prize-winning author Suketu Mehta explores its impact; director Karan Johar and designer Rajesh Pratap Singh face off on the eternal debate -- Do films dictate fashion or do fashion inspire films?

Cover girls Bipasha Basu, Priyanka Chopra, and Preity Zinta reveal their style secrets; Sonia Faleiro and Farrokh Chothia deconstruct Bollywood's newest debutante; Sonam Kapoor and Vogue's own Lucinda Chambers and photographer Patrick Demarchelier make magic with Gemma Ward on the sets of Saawariya in the BollyVogue Special

The cover is okay at best, but i'm still very excited to see the edits!

I would have liked to see Ujjwala Raut on the cover, since she is one of the most successful models to come out of India. Oh well - maybe a future cover?

I know this sounds like a stupid question, but do we have any Indian tfs postees here?

Because I read that Vogue:India is being released on the 22nd or 23rd of September :flower:

edit: but I don't know if that is an Indian release date or an International release date

The cover is nauseating. I would have expected something a little more lively and colorful from such...a lively and colorful culture.

The cover is cold, boring and fake looking.

However, I'm VERY interested as to what is inside!

hey there. I'm Indian. I hear theres a big launch party at Jaipur on the 22nd. Many indian designers did not show at fashion weeks abroad just so they could be part of the launching of vogue. I've yet to see Vogue India on the bookshelves though.

and one more question^_^

what do they wear on the cover?:flower:

would be much cooler if the models of color from those countries are the only folks on the cover for the first ever issue. it's really weird for me to see Gemma Ward in between two south Asian beauties. i'unno, aesthetically speaking there's so much being said with that awful-ok cover. yuck.

and one more question^_^

what do they wear on the cover?:flower:

Bipasha Basu, Roberto Cavalli, Gemma Ward, Valentino, Priyanka Chopra, Giorgio Armani, Laxmi Menon, Chanel, Preity Zinta, Christian Dior, Monikangana Dutta, Gucci!

info from indiafm.com

Uggghhhh.......that cover. I was expecting shall we say....more? I don't think the silver/blue color scheme works either.

I can't wait to see the insides though!

Why not Aishwarya or Ujjwala in the center?

I was thinking the same thing. If you are going to make a a statement that it is all about Indian women, why put a western woman on the front cover?

I am very shocked Aishwarya is not on the cover.

This is the first cover, so hopefully the covers will improve.
