W December 2012 : Marion Cotillard by Tim Walker

Well, yet more proof of the power of advertisers over cover subjects.

It's one of her best covers for sure.

The layout is quite awful but the cover shot is stunning, really. And I love the hands all over her.

Pretty tired of her being on so many covers this year, but this is fantastic. She totally owns it! And its perfect for December.

Apart from the hair and the obnoxiously huge logo I really like the cover, and the hands is a witty detail that enhances the whole festive feel. I hope that the Natalia ed was shot by M&M because it's nice to see them in an issue other than March & September, but the timing for a flood-inspired shoot is quite unfortunate.

Fabulous, fabulous cover with Marion. The dated fonts can't even demote the terrific cover shot.

BRILLIANT COVER!! The best December cover I have seen so far. Wonderful job W!

That red coat was the most beautiful this in the collection so I think it's perfect for a cover, and festive. The hands on the waist totally threw me off at first, though.

I love that Marion has so many films out this year because she's on a lot of covers. This one is so effortless but sort of fierce at the same time.

I LOVE IT! I just can't get enough of Marion, I know some people are a bit sick of her for her multiple covers, I'm part of the minority that loves seeing this woman in print. The hand concept is very innovative, it's sutile yet effective. And it's the Christmas month so it is the only time of the year when I can accept red overload :D

Why are they changing their headlines? please no I'd rather welcome back the old format. The flood inspired editorial looks so kickass, can't wait for the rest.

I'm very indifferent to Marion, I don't mind seeing her on covers. But I wish I could get as excited about this as everyone else but I find this very mediocre. I don't like the creepy hands around the waist and on her shoulders and I don't like her facial expression. And there's too much red for my taste. The styling is superb but overall I don't find this all that great.

It's just ok. Besides the hands and explosion of red, I don't find her expression offering up anything interesting or different.

Her links with Dior probably have more impact on her getting covers than the amount of films she has out I'm sure. Dior is one of the biggest advertisers, with one of the biggest advertising budgets, which is ironic considering they've given up doing campaigns for their main line.

^ I don't think it's just her Dior deal that gets her covers. She's one of the most celebrated actresses today. Her movies are usually well-received both financially and critically, so magazines want her on the cover because of the hype around her. Her latest film is getting Oscar buzz, so it really benefits W to put her on the cover.

2012 is her year that's for sure !!
I can't think of any other actress who got that many prestigious covers in the same year. I would've complained of a Marion overdose if the cover wasn't so amazing. The red makes it so striking. I love how it fits perfectly for a Decemer issue without being too obvious. The whole surrealism aspect with hands is also very interesting. Like W's own interpretation of what's happening, that is everybody wanting to get a piece of Marion. Can't wait to get this.
Even more with the stunning preview of Natalia's editorial.
