Could you tuck them into military style boots in the fall, purechris? Seems like that might work. Kind of recreating the Yohji baseball look, but with the boot as the slim calf...
that is JUST what i thought......

You found that at Filene's Basment!? Wow, the only thing I find around here are Versace, Miu Miu, Missoni, Cavalli, the only designers worth while are Gucci and Moschino.

Since you do have hips Id recommend a full skirt, that's a very fresh proportion and would make the piece seem high fashion rather than wierd. A black, blue, green bottom would go nicely I dont recommend white, too stark. You could do jeans but that'd require a VERY skinny jean because any other cut wouldn't do the top justice, another pant you could use is gaucho those would work quite nicely with the top.

Shoewise anything works with that top, Converses to sandals to pumps.
Thank you Diorling. I was surprised, too. there was only this one item on the rack. I was not looking for anything specifically, but I saw it on the rack and I thought this top looked different! (I didn't follow Balenciaga until recently) It just looks like a statement piece to me...then I found that it was Balenciaga, and I only paid about $50 :woot:
I will try to find such a skirt to match with the top:-) please let me know if you see any good pieces. btw, what is gaucho?
Thanks again :flower:

So I purchased these Miu Miu shoes over a month ago... however, I have yet to wear them. Do I match it with something else that is purple? Should I offset it with teal or camel? I don't really like wearing them with even my most tailored jeans.

Same question goes for accessories/handbag. I have no clue why I'm not satisfied with anything I pair these up with ...

Any ideas?
I saw a Roland Mouret silk top in that color today. I am thinking that such a soft magenta top+black skirt+your shoes will look gorgerous. Some gold accessories will be good, too.
I love this thread ^_^

Thank you for your suggestion!
And I agree, this is a fantastic thread!

i have no idea what to wear with these marc jacobs! help pls =) i don't even know where to start, like what colors do i wear??

Cool color shoes. You know pink/rose/green/purple, etc. What do you wear them with?

I am so trying to get over the only black and brown shoes, shoes must always be the same color or darker than the hem color, hose must be lighter than the shoes except for black…stuffy, rigid rules. Please, please, please fashionistas, help the old gal out!

m4ryb3ear - beautiful shoe! I think it's pretty versatile given the shape and color. A pencil skirt would be beautiful and really show it off. A wide leg trouser would also be nice with the round toe. As far as colors, I think any rich hue would work. Deep plum, burgundy, brick red, teal, forest green. And a something with a rich texture...

polyphony - Welcome :flower: Lots of options with this one!

An easy way to work a colored shoe is to offset it with neutral or soft colored clothing or "non-colors" like black and white. This works well with rich hues that can stand on their own like Peach's shoe above. That would look gorgeous with a simple camel colored dress or skit and place focus on that gorgeous shoe.

With a soft colored shoe, you can do the opposite. Offset it with a rich tone or keep it simple with neutrals again, and you could also tie the same soft tone of the shoe somewhere else in the top of the outfit. For example, I have really pale pink pair of pointy toed flats. I might wear them with a black or grey skirt/pants or jeans, but then wear a top that has a shade in the same family or a piece of jewelry in the same family or something to balance it. On the flip side, I might ditch the pink on top all together and wear a rich red or plum that complements the pale pink.

So, hopefully I've helped some, but long story short, there's a lot you can play with. Taking color inspiration from nature is always a good bet, too :flower:

Additionally, we've got a great thread titled "Does it Work?" where you can post options your considering and other members can give constructive criticism on whether or not the outfit works and what might work better (I've used it several times myself :p). We've got many, many talented members on board that give great advice ;)

thanks curious! looks like ill be doing some shopping hehe the only colors i normally wear are grey, white, brown, pink, and navy.. yeah rather boring but i look dumb in colors lol. i like the whole pencil skirt idea, it would be very cute. i think ill wear wide leg trousers though.. thanks again =)

okay, this is a little late to be asking, but I am going to a wedding tommorrow and I just got this skirt...I don't want to be too formal or casual, just want to wear something nice. The girls at the store recommended a fitted white tee and white heels, which I have, or should i go with brown as pictured? (sorry it's blurry)

or for something completely different, I also have this dress, the fabric is silky and shiny, it is nicer than the picture

are either of these good choices? I had originally chosen a skirt and embellished satin blouse but that seems so formal, (but maybe it is the right thing to wear?)...please give me your two cents on what I should wear ;) thanks!

I know we have a wedding thread but i posted here in light of my question with the floral skirt. Any advice on what to wear with that skirt will be much appreciated, even after the wedding!

I think it depends on the wedding, but the pink outfit to me looks the most dressy, thats the one I like the most. :flower:

ok, I recently bought this dress for my bf's 21st party (minus the belt around it in the pic) but I just can't seem to decide what kind of shoe and bag to pair it with. The colour is a beautiful beige and the anglomania signs are a browny grey colour. ANy suggestions would be much appreciated!

I just got these shoes this past winter and I still don't know what to wear under them. Here's a couple of pictures...They are two toned brown and I know I could wear them with jeans...however I have not found my perfect ones yet so that is out of the questions. Any suggestions would be welcome!

Today, I found a pair of bright turquoise tights from an old fairy costume, and surprisingly they fit... I just don't know what I could wear it with? Preferably something very light because it's very hot over here...!

matthew williamson skirt

I just bought this Matthew Williamson skirt off Ebay... What should I wear with it and in what color? Also, what shoes? I also posted a pic of Kate Moss wearing hers in a cream color. I also know Carrie wore it on SATC but can't find a picture and don't remember what she paired it with either. Any ideas? Please post pics if you can find them.

this bridesmaid dress is boring... how would you spice it up? the dress is in black; for an evening wedding. thanks tfsers!

a984mel - Great dress!! This being a neutral, I think you could pair it with a lot of different things. A black shoe is the obvious for me. A black mary jane pump would be really cute as well as a black ballet flat or skimmer. One will dress it up, the other down. Any rich saturated hue I think would work with it. I'd stay away from pastels with it though since it's so light itself :flower:

darkchyld - really nice, classic shoe  My thoughts -

Colors - camel, navy (much like a dk denim), burgundy, brick red, forest green(emerald)
Shapes - pencil skirt :woot:, a-line skirt, slim (make sure the leg is long enough) or wide-leg trouser, short pants (like pedal pushers - see NY street style), the pleated baggier shorts that have made a comeback...

88 - How fun!! I can't imagine wearing them in the summer, though  The heat index is 115 here today :o The only thing I can think of is a really light airy white dress and some flats. Sounds pretty...

In the fall though, black dress/skirt, your brilliant tights & blk pumps

shalu - gorgeous! I'd take that page right out of Kate's book. She looks fabulous! A plain fitted white tee (or maybe cream with the shade of your skirt) and flat sandals would be pretty, too. I also think you could work blk with it, but I'd keep what you pair it with matte & simple since the skirt has such great detail!

opheliayc - that dress is a blank canvas!! So much you could do. But hasn't the bride dictated how it should be worn? In my experience with weddings, the bride always determines accessories so everyone looks harmonious. If that's not the case though, you could work some really fabulous jewelry. It's screaming for a necklace. Or a brightly colored belt (again, wouldn't recommend this for the wedding itself but maybe for the reception) or a corsage pinned at the top or waist. A detailed wrap would be pretty. The list goes on... :flower:

I agree with curious, as long as its ok with the Bride, you have lots of options! How about a thick satin belt for color?

thanks ladies! I guess i should have clarified... the Bride is very open (as long as we stick with her colors- champange and green) - she wants us to individualize the dress... (and I would personally go with an sage/mint green obi-styled sash, worn in a high-waisted fashion, fastened with a brooch.)

I guess, specifically, what kind of jewlery would you put with this? I dont want to be over the top- but I definitely think this dress needs a statement piece- I was thinking either a great pair of chandelier earrings (w/no necklace) or a big chunky stone necklace? or maybe pile on some long pearls?

any idea of where i could get something like this at a decent price?? :)

curious, thanks so much for your reply!! Unfortunately the party has already been and gone. It was just a casual-ish affair so I ended up pairing the dress with my vivienne westwood pirate boots. When in doubt, go with the pirate boots, is literally my motto with every item of clothing  Felt comfortable in this, but still nice. The dress was a total bargain and i    it!! thanks again! :flower:
