What college do/did you go to?

Long process:
2004/2005: Parsons School of Design - foundation year
decided to transfer to a university to be able to pursue a liberal arts education in case the BFA plan didn't work

2006 - present Rutgers University - double majored in Art and Journalism for a bit, then switched to Journalism and English (their Art program is decidedly uncommercial and fine arts-oriented). NOW, finishing degree in English, but with regrets.

I am considering going to FIT for a year after I graduate to get an AAS in FMM, because then I'd have the option to go into either fashion or writing. It could provide a bit of a safety net. Perhaps I can combine both interests and talents and pursue fashion journalism or a position at a fashion magazine, etc. At the moment, though, I'm considering freelance work in writing (doesn't have to be fashion-oriented...I'd love to focus on media and music critiques, but know it doesn't pay) while I finish this degree & possibly start the other. If the means justify the ends, I can establish a more stable career in fashion with a FMM degree and internship experiences/networking-building while I write at leisure (and without a million freelance commitments per month necessary to make ends meet).

My path towards a dream career(s) is certainly not of the straight and narrow variety, but then again, it's comforting to see that many in the art and fashion fields take awhile to get there :flower::innocent:

I go to the Art Institute of Pittsburgh online but I am about to transfer to the Academy of Art University in San Francisco I think...hopefully!! But I'm studying Fashion Merchandising.

why did you leave parsons?

Only because I began to doubt my commitment towards earning a BFA. I felt I would be limiting myself considerably, and at that point my intentions and goals shifted towards writing again & I felt a liberal arts education would be conducive to my pursuits. That's ended up being a mixed blessing, and as it may be, I seem to be heading back in a creative/fashion direction yet again. However, this time it would be as someone who contextualizes, not as a designer or artist myself. That's probably why FIT is more suitable for my needs and aspirations this time around.

From Columbia as a double major in astrophysics and biochemical engineering to Colorado State in History. It's lovely to be in my home state and the big fish in a small pond, but utterly dismal for finding internships and jobs in the industry now that I'm done.

I never switched my major to anything remote to do with fashion because my father was displeased enough I went into history. The word fashion and he thinks I want to be a designer and that's just fou-fou. It's sad.

Very well said. However, I wish you had had the chance to investigate all of your options before concretely deciding to transfer because I know how difficult that process can be.

Did you ever hear about the dual major programs Parsons has with it's sister school Eugene Lang? While considering the New School, I was most intent on this program. I believe it allows you to pursue a degree from Parsons and one from Lang, which is essentially a liberal arts school. This would have worked out to your advantage because it would mean that by now you would have had the opportunity to pursue both a fashion degree and one in the liberal arts, simultaneously.

Academy of Art University, San Francisco! Excellent school but demanding as all hell...but I totally think it's worth it!

I'm there too as a Communications/PR major and so far, I like it. However, I haven't been able to take any classes toward this major yet because I keep getting majorly screwed with scheduling dates. I've heard good things, though, and that the classes beyond the intros can be a bit of a challenge.

Junior at Spelman College, Economics major(how boring)
hopefully NYU for masters in Journalism

please don't bludgeon me! I go to FIDM. *peace*

whats funny is that im not even mormon and i considered the idea of going there!!!
Haha, cool! There are a bunch of people who aren't Mormons who go here.
does "bff" mean "best friend forever" or "boy ffriend"?

FBI Fashion College Sydney

I had about 4 other friends that went at the same time.
The business course was a complete waste of time.
When I started they had a great reputation but in the last 2 years they have declinded dramtically. Very unprofessional and not a good place to start your career in fashion.

I suggest Ultimo tafe for fashion design or Whitehouse Design - They have a great reputation and it is very professional.

Hope this helps some Sydneysiders wanting to venture into the world of fashion
