What do you do with your fashion mags?

I keep all my fashion magazines in my bookshelf. I've only just started collecting them, but my mom has HUNDREDS kept underneath her bed. She's been collecting them since she was 12, and she's 45 now.

Sadly, I have a hard time parting with ANY of my magazines..even the trashy teeny bopper ones. Hmm, I don't know what to do. :S Any advice? Lol, I just need to get rid of them, but can't bring myself to do it..

Two ideas (since I go through this all the time) 1) Rip out the ads and editorials you especially like and put them in page protectors and a ring binder; after a while you only have the good stuff and can throw out the junk filler without feeling bad and 2) pack up the ones you won't spend too much time with anymore (an issue of Allure from 1999 won't be of much interest over time, I would bet..) and drop them off at a local nursing home- I bet the older women don't get expensive magazines very often and will love to see all the beautiful clothes and people!

I do, however. keep my old Vogues in a big bookcase, my (meaningless) goal is to have every issue since Anna took over...why I do not know; just one more OCD sign that should be addressed with medication, I imagine...!

Thank god i am not the only one. After i read this thread i fell much bettre because i too cant throw my magazines away specially MY Vogues i keep them on a special place and they look like brand new!

I threw out about 10 years of UK Vogues & about 15 years of US Vogues and many misc Italian, Australian Vogues 2 years ago and now I totally regret that. Now I keep all my foreign Vogues & clip my US Vogues. I clip from other mags too and categorize then put them in protective sleeves which I store in binders.

10 years of UK Vogue!!! AAAHHHH!! What a shame! But at least you're getting right back into the game!^_^
I, too, do the sleeve and binder thing but it keeps growing into my own personal library of congress...I think I'll call FIT in NY and see if they might want some for their library at some point! Like a runaway train, huh? But such beautiful stuff, how can you complain!:flower:

Ooooh. Saddest story about to be told...

I always keep my magazines. I'm pretty much obsessive-compulsive with them. Like, I don't tear, bend, or touch the pages wrong. But yeah, I've been collecting them ever since I was 13 and last year I moved up to Seattle from California, but kept a lot of my boxes down there for my dad to haul up when he came down. So instead of taking all my moving boxes and putting them in the flippin' U-Haul, he goes through all of them and takes out every.single.one of my magazines (pause. breathe. okay.) and throws them out! All my Glamours and Vogues and Bazaars and Elle's.. all the UK versions and whatnot. (breathe. breathe.)

I don't allow myself to fully contemplate that he threw out somewhere around 40 magazines because I'd probably go into convulsions..

But yes.. my magazine collection is returning. heh. And I don't see it as a problem because I'm going to be a fashion writer after college. ^_^

Bixby - :cool::cool: :clap:

This is all so sad!! But, here's a good story: I just moved and went through the standard "What the Hell do you want all of these for?" routine ( keep in mind I'm a straight single guy who does not currently work in the fashion industry..) and I held out from the crys of "Throw em out"!! and now have piles of Vogues and Elles in my new bedroom...Handy if any models are here; they won't even have to get out of bed to check for their pictures...!B)

I save them as I like to flip through old magazines now and then. Plus, they look nice on my bookshelf, especially those with white backs.

What I usually do is stick the "fave makeup looks" that I cutout from mags into a nice little book, as well as fave clothes. I usually cut out my fave ads and stick them on my wall, and no I never throw away my mags. I have a GIGANTIC pile in my bedroom.

Ditto

i keep every single one..they are all over the place..sometimes i take ads or editorials that i like and put them on my wall, but the majority are still intact... i just can't give them away..sometimes...i'll just flip through them on a day that nothing else is going on....it's quite relaxing actualy..or i'll want to look at an older editorial or ad....so i just can't part with them

i keep them! my mom thinks i should throw them away, but first of all I spent money on the subscriptions, and secondly, when I'm grown up I will want to look at the Vogues and W's I read in high school. No way are they going in the trash!!!

I don't know should I sell my magazines or keep them...I'm not sure if I'll need them, and I don't like too much clutter. On the other hand I like to read them...though I do like brand new mags much much more...what should I do? I don't want to make collages of them, as I said I don't like any clutter. I'm almost obsessive compulsive with having a zero tolerance of clutter.

Maybe I should sell my Vogues / give them to friends and save i-Ds since I like the latter more.

I'm confused.

Nah...Get a good size white bookcase and set it up- The white spines look very cool in a white bookcase...Mine is like a mini-shrine, all I need is a framed pictue of Anna Wintour with a spotlight shining on it!!!

i keep them for about a yera and throw them out. when im bored, i sometimes tear out my fav ads/editorials and try to keep them... most of the time i end up losing them though.

I've been keeping all of the 2006 issues of W. The April issue may be the first to go  but I haven't seen it yet so I'm not sure.

I hang on to my Nylon magazines a month or two, but US Vogues never stay around more than a week before I tear them apart at the binding to get the advertisements out.

I keep all Vogue and Harpers Bazaar - i can't bring myself to throw them away! Glad to see i'm not the only one, my boyfriend thinks i'm totally crazy keeping so many mags lol

I decided to throw away my magazines, I don't need them, instead I need money to buy new ones to read.
