What to wear back to the hometown

You know how it is when you leave your hometown, espeically for the ones who grew up in small towns. You leave for the big city, the "real world", vowing to become thin and rich and pretty and famous and fall in someone love with someone fabulous. And you fantasize about breezing back into town years later, dressed to the nines with your handsome beau in tow, how everyone will say "Wow, that Mary Jane, sure did make something of herself."

Lol. Or is this just my sick, twisted fantasy? :ninja:

Anyways, I'm heading home in a few weeks for a couple day trip. Really dreading it, because I pretty much look the same. Not anymore thin or pretty or even close to being famous. But the fact that I left, am not pregnant or dating a coked out drug addict, says a lot, since most of the girls I grew up with are still there, in those situations.

Blah. What to pack? I have to look amazing, of course, since everyone will be studying my everymove. I was always known in highschool for how well I dressed, so if I show up not living up to that repuation, man they will pull me apart! Our town is the Queen of Gossip. Not so nice gossip.

Getting ready to go out vintage shopping, maybe I will find some nice pieces to wear. Any random ideas or suggestions? Anyelse have funny stories about going back home? Anyone actually lived out that fantasy?

I doubt anyone will really criticize you if you just go home wearing whatever you normally wear. That you are a member of tFS indicates that you probably already have good style, so your daily attire is probably quite chic. Wear whatever is appropriate for the climate and season.

Even if you sassed a lot about how much you were going to make of yourself once you got out of your hometown, probably nobody really remembers that much, and won't really care that you're still pretty much the same as you were before you moved. People don't make a scandal over folks who are doing okay, but not spectacularly. They'll likely note your presence, say "hi" to you, fill you in on anything they think you have missed since you have been gone (new Kroger's, fire at the livestock-auction barn, truck-lane added to Hwy 70 on the hill south of town, etc) and go about their business. Your coming and going will just be a little blip on the town-gossip radar. Now if you came back as a purple-haired lesbian with your girlfriend and three pet skunks in tow, people would talk. Just being an ordinary city woman isn't anything too shocking.

I was rather scandalous myself, as a teenager, but nowadays when I come back to my old hometown, it's no biggie. Say "hi" to any of my friends who are still around there, if I see anyone's parents in the Mini-Mart, I'll say "hi" and that's about it. Everyone's got plenty of their own life to live.

God I hate those trips, everyone looks at me like if I had three heads on my shoulders

You know you love it. B)

In my little town
I grew up believing
God keeps his eye on us all
And he used to lean upon me
As I pledged allegiance to the wall
Lord I recall my little town
Coming home after school
Riding my bike past the gates of the factories
My mom doing the laundry
Hanging out shirts in the dirty breeze
And after it rains there's a rainbow
And all of the colors are black
It's not that the colors aren't there
It's just imagination they lack
Everything's the same back in my little town

Sadly, I was born in London - city of 8 million people and about half that many souls :innocent:

I know how that feels. Just yesterday my mother was like "if you want to come visit you're going to have to tone it down, I don't want Daniel (my brother) to be made fun of by his friends."

You know what, my mom has to deal with me wearing latex leggins at home, and all that crap, and I seriously don't give a rat's *** about what anyone thinks, of course, it's upsetting having to deal with people looking back, and little kids looking at you while you're at the supermarket, argh, I scare the sh*t out of those kids when I open my eyes widely and scream loudly...haha...or sometimes I just stare at them for minutes and then stick my finger up on my nose, so I can be at their same level...same with their parents :D

Even if I try to tone it down a few notches, there's still a bit of me that just irradiates some sort of aura that makes people turn heads and talk sh*t, I don't care anymore, mom doesn't either.

That's so true. I went to a house party in like ag jeans and a lacoste and people were like "are you gay?"....sometimes you can't help exude that aura, even when I'm not wearing my versace t-shirt that is bright purple with donatella on the front saying "pleased to meet you". It hurts to try and "tone it down" for midwest homophobia, I would have to be head to toe camaflouge to not turn heads.

When I try going on camouflage I start looking like some sort of Gliteratti specimen

I dunno, I rather be myself and avoid toning myself down to other people's preference. I start looking stupid when I try to look straight

exactllllllyyyyyy...my urge is to go in full drag or something just to spite people

I don't really care that much anymore, going back home for me is just a huge challenge. I play on how many looks I get when I step out of my door... my mum kinda enjoys it also :innocent:

Walking around with you must be like taking a stroll with Madonna and a unicorn on a leash.

Dont forget about the cone shaped bra ;) Timeless baby

Im actually looking at my PJ's now, and I can only say something... I could wear this out tomorrow

Some Jelly bean print tights, Mickey Mouse shoe slippers, Leopard print tank and a neon green cardigan

I totally relate! I moved to Chicago from a smaller-sized Iowa city, and when I go back home for my reunion (I'll be back home sooner, but just to visit family), I want people to see how I look NOW... I thought I was the only one who had this fantasy. :)

 How the heck does he do it... :punk:

Alejandro, you are hilarious! Oh please, please come home with me! We would make a wonderful couple to stir up the town gossip. It would be a blast!

People are going to talk, no matter what I wear or do. I haven't been there in some time, and my friends tell me that people still are talking about me! I guess I'm still quite the scandal.

Nice poem Prince Of Cats. :) Describes it very well.

I think I might have some fun with this trip home... :ninja:

I don't dread going back to my hometown really because I love Boston <3. A few things have change within those eight years but the last thing my friends and family will notice is my clothes, I think they'll notice how I'm more uhm gay :woot:
