What to wear to prom or homecoming

Hmm yeah my vote goes to the second option. I think it would look good in a deep dark blue. But then I think everything looks go in that color.

Here's the dresses I have narrowed my choices down to!:

^Were I to purchase this one I would wear it with gold sparkly tights (don't worry, they don't look wretched, trust me haha) and black pumps.

My dad likes this one the best and I do, too, I think because of the color. I'd wear it with opaque black tights and black pumps.

ibimus, I like the second one. Maybe you could shorten it underneath one of the layers, so the hem would remain as it is.

How fun! My favorite part of high school was always shopping for the dresses for formals. I agree. The second dress in the first post is prettier. The first one looks ordinary and predictable.

okay, i have a question about prom, but it doesn't really pertain to prom fashion or anything. my prom is in about 1.5-2 months, and as of now i have no date, and honestly, my options kind of suck. i have this thing where if i don't have a date, i refuse to go to prom but a lot of people are telling me it is still so much fun without a date but i think the whole point of prom is actually having a date, and i don't want to feel left out! from anybody experience here..what do you think? is it stupid to go without a date or is it still lots of fun?? i'm so confused and really upset that i haven't got asked..i know it's not that big of a deal..but it's really making me so anxious and stressed.idk why!! pleaseeee i need advice lol

why? Sorry to be harsh but i totally don't understand that kind of attitude. Are you going to need a date for the rest of your life? Why not rely on yourself for your self esteem instead of others? Thats much more sexy than some needy girl. When you get into the real world are you going to need a date to do things? I went to my prom/grad without a date and was one of the only people who did so but I don't know - who cares? I honestly don't rely on highschool kids to give me confidence and i'm glad I didn't. I've done a lot more exciting things than the majority of them and it wasn't a big deal. Who can be bothered?! Be yourself and go and have FUN - these peoples opinions don't matter. And if they do a couple years from now - well then, I would be sorry to hear that.

Welll it depends if everyone at your table or whatever has a date or not. I went to prom without a date and EVERYONE I knew there had a date...so it was kind of awkward...but then some girl's dates just randomly left...so I invited a guy I knew using their ticket and he came dressed in his ninjitsu outfit thing! Bottom line though, if you want to go with a date, ask someone, it's kind of archaic to make boys do the asking all the time, might as well stay in the kitchen with that attitude! It's only fair. :p

Just go with a friend! That's what I did last year and am doing this year. Friends are more fun, since you don't have to worry about impressions or acing like an idiot.

Seriously. Find a friend. Go with him/her. It's loads of fun.
And you still get to slow-dance. ;)

If you go with a friend just make sure your friend doesn't find a date and ditch you, or ditch you for some guy at the prom...

Am I really lame for not wanting to go to my junior prom this year? I've never been the kind of person to get that excited about these kind of occasions, and it's my friend's birthday party that day. I know I'll have so much more fun hanging out with my friends there, but people treat me as if I'm ridiculous for not going. Is it really THAT fun? I mean, I don't even have a date or anything.

^haha noo. It is my senior prom this year and honestly, i have no desire to go. I'm not the school-spirit type, i've already been to 2 proms in my high school "career" and I really think they are completely hyped up. The only thing that would entice me to go is if I got to go shopping and get a dress. (.... realizes that is a bit pathetic.. but oh well)

Don't get me wrong, I love dancing, but I have the formalities of prom.

if you don't want to go, don't go. I dont see any point of going if you'd rather be doing somethign else. It's a lot of money to spend if you aren't enjoying it.

Personally I liked going simply Because I got to buy a fancy dress and get all dolled up. It's like the whole fantasy of cinderella going to the ball. Some people enjoy that, others don't

I didn't go to my prom because I didn't have a date...everyone said "Oh you don't need a date" but at my school you're looked down on if you go to a date dance without a date. Plus it helped that I was completely broke at the time so there was no way I could have gone even without a date because tickets are insanely expensive and I would have to get an acceptable dress, acceptable hair and nails...

And the part about asking guys didn't work because I was turned down by 4 guys. That did wonders for my self-esteem, trust me.

My friends and I are going in a "love group" or "friend orgy" Haha, basically, nobody actually likes anyone, we just want to go and have fun. We're all good friends, but as of right now, we don't feel the need to date each other. We'll go, dance, party and hang out. We're not the stressful, date-seeking types!

As for my dress, I want something simple. I cannot stand long, princess-y type prom dresses. It feels very unnecessary IMO. I'll probably rock something simple, short and black or this Grecian dress that was once a pastel pantsuit (wtf??), which I later converted into a dress, that I found in a thrift store.

as the starter of this thread. i must say.. dont take it too seriously, cause two years from now you'll probably look back think you looked silly anyways, and giggle at how much thought you put it into the whole ordeal anyways. thank goodness for the enlightenment college has provided :)

happy dress hunting! (betsey johnson dresses are fun!)

we're having a prom type dance in may at school and i've already started for a dress because i know i can't stand typical prom dresses. i think they are really ugly. however, i'm having a hard time finding dresses that are fun but not totally casual...any suggestions?

^ebay. I found an anna sui dress I love... there is just so much variety.

also, shopbop.com has cute dresses (more $ than I would spend I think though)

and as always, you could go the vintage route.

i definetly think online shopping is where you have the most choices, though, and can best find a dress you love.

Cutx, Yep me neither.
So I'm trying to make a dress myself - I'm not sure if it will be a success, I guess only time will tell. I've already bought the fabric though. It's green/greyish chiffon "for the dress itself", khaki satin for the lining and some off white see through fabric for details.
I'm inspired by these two dresses - at least color and detailwise... Though I'm not sure it's going to look nothing like them.

good luck...

thanks for the tips, woodenhouse. i've actually found some nice vintage ones online...i also found a nice lanvin dress on ebay but i'm afraid it's waaaaay too serious for a school dance
[very chic though!. ;)] i'm also checking saks and net-a-porter for dresses.

I don't think lanvin would be to "serious" for a school dance- I don't see how any dress could be more formal than a prom dress- and Lanvin would certainly be more sophisticated
