What to wear to prom or homecoming

As far as shoe colour goes, I would go a light blue to match the trim on the dress, or a silver.

Accessories, I would do a simple blue crystal drop earring and then a necklace with blue crystal beads. I'd go beads and not the set-stone look, but make sure it's Swarovski. Another fun idea would be earrings with blue feathers, or if the shoes are plain, add some feathers (but not many) to make it an unexpected touch.

^^ Personally I think I would wear a pair of off white or grey pumps. . . But a pair of blue, black, silver or white ones would be safe as well.

This is how my dress ended up looking like. Originally I wanted more roses. I wanted a few on the straps. But I didn't have the time nor did I feel like making them :p

And then i added some neon green nailpolish on my fingers. . .

my dance is tonight..and i got a new dress for it cause my mom and i decided the lanvin was too serious. it's by shoshanna it's not something i would have ever really picked out for myself.

I went to my first prom last month. I had no date :ninja: Unless you count all of my gay boyfriends.

I wore a Zara dress and my mom's old blazer. Nothing too fancy..

Aw you all have such beautiful, striking dresses.
It makes me wish i could have mine again,my dress was so generic.
:(

So here goes:

I am 22 and instead of a prom, I find myself having to go to some black tie gala thing. I would recycle my old prom gown because I love it so (a vintage 1940s gown) but it's a kelly green with a lemon yellow sash around the middle. Not exactly "wintery" and besides, why pass up the option of getting a new dress? Now the predicament. Which dress? And where do I get it? I don't have the funds most of your lovely ladies do and while I would love to turn up in a lovely marchesa, I am afraid my purse would choke me.

That saying, I have a couple options, please tell me which of this seems best or suggest others. From least favored to most favored:

^ I love the idea of a simple column dress (I think) although if I were really honest with myself I know I am by no means a 'simple' sort of girl. Nothing really remarkable about this dress except the sash and the lovely graphic contrast of the black and white.

^Love the dress. A size too large but I figured I would get it taken in.

^ Not sure if the layers would work against me. I have worn dresses similar to this that made me look like I have curves in all the wrong places :yuk:

So, what do you ladies think?

^
I think the third one is lovely, so as long as it's not too low-cut (I don't think it is, I just noticed it was the only low-cut one in the bunch.), I'd go for that one. The other two are great too, out of those two, I'd go for the first one, the cut looks very flattering. The second one is also lovely but you never know for sure if it'll look exactly perfect after it's been taken in. Just keep in mind that if you plan on buying the dress online, that you won't be able to try it on beforehand and thatgoing with something you know you'll look good in is wisest.

Now I had a question also, of the two dresses, which do you all prefer?

That's not the exact one I'm thinking about, mine has the detailing at the side a bit further down the waist and the detailing at the bust is more subtle.

And also, how would you do your hair/make-up/accesories which each dress?

joues-rogues - I personally prefer the first one best, but if you don't like it, the second appears to be the most figure conscious. The third is lovely but it's quite daring, and like you said, unless it fits your figure like a glove, it looks like it could be unflattering. The second is probably the most versatile because you can have it tailored to your body.

Deep Brunette - The first one is the one I like because it's sexy without being too revealing, figure hugging and you could have the most versatility with styling. You could wear your hair up or down, no jewelery or something really bold. If it were my choice, I'd wear my hair wavy, loosely tied up with delicate silver jewelry, a shiny silver clutch and colored pumps.

i wore this dress to homecoming a month ago! its from anthropologie.. :) its a purpleish-brown color.

Casting crowns - I wanted to wear a short dress too initially but problem with black ties is that short dresses come off too cocktail. My designer friend sells her stuff through her boutique on etsy and I love, love, love her stuff.

The dress I wanted to get was:

So I am just going to have to get that dress for another occasion :(

Deep Brunette:
I like the first one better and depending on the occasion probably very simple jewelry like diamond stud earrings and just a georg jensen cuff, and if your hair is long then wear it up and coifed if it's shoulder lenght then down. Makeup I would do a dramatic eye. And finish it off with black peeptoes. But thats just me

Hey guys, I'm stressing about my prom it's in about two months and I have no clue what I want to wear. I think I want a long dress, jewel-tone (crimson or royal blue maybe?) because I have pale skin/brown hair. I'm like a size 6-8 so it's always difficult to find flattering fits and it's making me really nervous. Any input/ideas!?

I'm thinking of getting a short, chin-length bob haircut, that way I can just wear my hair down and straight. I'm not an up-do type of girl. My style is more classic/preppy.

oy vey, prom is freaking me out!
i'm a sophomore in high school, but my best friend michael is taking me to his senior prom this year. i haven't a clue what to wear, though. if it were up to me, i'd choose a really out-of-the-ordinary dress, but i'd feel so awkward wearing something unique in a sea of senior-girls who're likely to wear a million of the same gowns, hahahaha.
as for my hair, i'm so nervous to get it done at a salon; i'd rather just put it up in pretty hair accessories myself. i'd hate for it to look too generic, what with my dress dilemma, too! aghhhh!

posting a pic of myself is actually quite scary  but still, here it goes :

my prom was like a month ago and guys, there's no need to worry! it was such a lovely night, actually one of the best nights in my entire life  I really had a blast and even though the music was AWFUL! the guy I was there with made the night  I wish I could go back  and excuse my silly faces xD
the dress I was wearing is by Ewa Minge, a Polish designer:flower:

My school's dance is in June but I'm already looking for a dress (everyone is). . I really want a one shouldered dress.! ^_^:p

Karusiek you looked lovely! aghh guys we need to figure something out I'm so worried right now. I suppose it's my insecurity that I'll look fat or have a pimple or something or something stupid like that lol. I kind of want a one-shouldered one too. I don't even know where to look, the generic prom stores are so tacky and like a magnet for tulle and sparkles etc. hmm.:huh:
